The Knight of Light plants the sun in the eternal night.

Night and day, as long as the moon doesn't come out, it's hard to tell the difference.

But in the home of John the Farm Supervisor, there was a heavy clock that would chime every morning at six o'clock.

Then John the Bearded, or John's pockmarked wife, would take an iron basin and bang it around the house, and that's when the serfs knew it was time to wake up and a new day had begun.

John the Younger was also called John.

But he was only seven years old.

"Get up, little John!" Little John's stepmother's gruff voice pierced through the thin wooden door.

"Oh, get up." Little John was still sleepy, but he didn't dare to slow down at all, because his stepmother's whip could hurt a lot when it struck.

After he put on his tattered clothes, there was only a small piece of hardened black bread on the dining table.

There wasn't even a drop of soup.

Little John didn't mind; he was used to this kind of meal. He scooped a bowl of cold water from the water tank and soaked the black bread in it. It quickly became soft and fluffy, and he picked it up and chewed it in big bites.

Then he drank all the cold water, not letting any bread crumbs go to waste.

Even so, he wasn't very full, but little John knew that breakfast was over.

Then, he conscientiously cleaned the house, collected manure, fed the chickens, and filled the water tank in the house with a small bucket.

This is his daily routine.

He didn't finish his housework until around ten o'clock.

I saw my stepmother rushing back from outside.

"Mom," he called out, "are we going to run errands at the Wubao construction site today?"

When the stepmother returned home, she found an iron bucket and put a brush and scraper inside: "You're not going to the construction site today. Go clean the chimney at Sunflower Castle. Take the bucket; all the tools are in there. Remember, Butler Ramos will take you there."

"Oh." Little John quickly took the bucket and lifted it with some difficulty.

Although he was only seven years old, he already had four years of experience cleaning chimneys. He started working as a chimney cleaner apprentice when he was very young, probably after his biological mother was taken away by a monster and his stepmother married into the family.

Clean out the chimneys for the castle, clean out the chimneys for the stone houses.

This would count as a military service quota, so his father and stepmother wouldn't have to serve anymore and could do more private work.

As soon as they stepped outside, Ramos, the butler, was already standing on the edge of the field.

With only a few strands of hair left, meticulously combed and dressed in a well-fitting tuxedo, he clearly looked like a "big shot."

To the country children, those who could work in the castle were all important people. Seven-year-old John's biggest dream was to be like Thomas the Tank Engine and work as a servant at the Sunflower when he grew up.

As for Ramos's role as a butler, John didn't even dare to dream of it.

"Mr. Ramos, I'm ready."

"Yes, let's go, child." Ramos nodded. The chimney in the castle kitchen was narrow, so children were used to scoop out the ash inside.

We arrived at Sunflower Castle.

In the backyard, a construction site scaffold was erected, and a wall was being built with cobblestones. A bright red oak tree provided ample lighting.

Little John, carrying the iron bucket, felt the warm, comforting rays of the oak tree shining on him.

He didn't know how to describe it.

It felt like every pore was opening up, like...like taking a sauna. He vaguely remembered that when he was a child, his father took him to the Firefly Town once, and they took a sauna in the town's bathhouse.

The scene is now blurred.

But he will always remember that feeling.

"If I could become a male servant at Sunflower Castle, would I get to take saunas every day?" Little John wondered to himself. He could see the sunlight filtering through the linden trees outside, but he didn't feel like he was in a sauna.

Only the bare light of this oak tree gives you the feeling of being in a sauna.

"Little John's here." Mrs. Abby's voice interrupted Little John's reverie. "Hurry, hurry and clean the chimney. I still have so many mouths to feed in the castle at noon!"

Mrs. Abby, wearing an apron, greeted everyone and then muttered something to herself: "It's a pity that the young master doesn't like my cooking anymore. It's all Nicole's fault... I shouldn't have taught her how to cook."

John knows Nicole.

He had eaten Aunt Nicole's bread, which was much tastier than his stepmother's.

Soon, little John was climbing up the chimney, crawling through the cramped space like a giant caterpillar.

Use a small brush to continuously scrape the accumulated dust off the wall.

He did it very seriously.

Steward John with a big beard once said that only the most diligent children would be chosen by Steward Dirk as apprentice servants.

A while ago, Butler Dirk selected ten boys and girls for internships.

Little John also wanted to be selected, but unfortunately he was too young, only seven years old, and couldn't do any heavy work, so he could only clean chimneys.

"If only Sunflower Castle needed to clean its chimneys every day..." he thought to himself.

Meanwhile, Leo rides his steed, a warhorse of light, galloping along the dimly lit road, illuminated by the flaming lanterns on its neck.

After being promoted to knight, you no longer need to worry about attacks from shadow monsters.

They can come and go as they please.

Before I knew it, I was back at the Swamp Manor. Just then, I felt a familiar warm guidance coming from my palm.

He was led to the place where the serfs used to live.

It was a cluster of glowing fungi, the most common glowing fungi in the firefly wilderness. The voice was slightly deep: "That little boy who is good at cleaning chimneys, I saw holy light burning in his body. My God, he seems to glow. What kind of holy light element affinity is this?"

"what?"

Leo exclaimed in surprise: "Following the genius knight Camille, another genius priest has arrived? The little boy who cleans the chimneys?"

He hurried back to Sunflower Castle, intending to send his servant Thomas to the manor to inquire which little boy was good at cleaning chimneys.

Thomas immediately said, "Young master, the little chimney cleaner, you mean little John? He's cleaning the kitchen chimney."

"Now?"

"Yes, John is cleaning the chimney right now."

"Come on, I'll go take a look." Leo went straight to the kitchen and saw that the stove had been blocked with cloth bags.

To prevent tobacco ash from flying everywhere.

"Young Master, what brings you here?" Ramos, who was directing the work, said hurriedly, "They're cleaning the chimney in the kitchen, there's a lot of dust. Young Master, would you like to move aside for a moment to avoid getting yourself covered in dust?"

Leo pointed at the stove: "Is Little John cleaning the chimney?"

"Yes."

Are there many little boys cleaning chimneys at the manor?

"Well, in many farming families, the children clean the chimneys, but Little John is the most skilled at it. So, the kitchen in Sunflower Fort also regularly asks Little John to clean the chimneys, which counts as his family's service quota."

"So, he's best at cleaning chimneys?"

"Yes." Ramos was somewhat puzzled.

Leo nodded: "After he finishes cleaning the chimney, take him to give him a bath, change his clothes, and then come to my study."
