Chapter 92 Xu Hongmi's Surprise

"Much more powerful than a tiger?" Lin Yang chuckled upon hearing this, then said, "I asked President Xie, and his friend owns an organic farm. We can take your sister and Lingdang there for picking tomorrow, and introduce Lingdang to some plants. We can have lunch there."

"Okay, I'll ask my sister," Xu Hongdou nodded.

"Well, once it's confirmed, I'll have to ask Mr. Xie to make a reservation with the owner in advance," Lin Yang added. "Then, if your sister has enough time, we can take her and Lingdang to the ancient city for a visit. I'll also go pick up that batch of jade ornaments; they've already been processed, but I haven't had time to get them yet."

"Okay, I'll follow your arrangements," Xu Hongdou said with a smile.

Lingdang, standing to the side, looked at Lin Yang, then at Xu Hongdou, who had a smiling face, her little face full of curious, gossipy expressions.

After having lunch at a small restaurant, Lin Yang and Xu Hongdou took Lingdang to the wood carving workshop next door in the afternoon. Lin Yang even live-streamed his carving, which surprised and intrigued Lingdang, who was seeing someone carving for the first time.

"Wow, it looks just like him!" Xu Hongdou exclaimed in surprise when she saw the little figure that Lin Yang had finally sculpted.

"Is that me?" Lingdang looked at Lin Yang with surprise and admiration, hugging her little wooden statue and exclaiming in a clear voice, "Uncle-in-law is so amazing!"

In the evening, they strolled together from the town back to the village along the coastal road.

Under the setting sun, Lin Yang carried a slightly tired Lingdang, while Xu Hongdou carried a bag of vegetables. They walked through the village like a family of three returning from grocery shopping.

Dinner was naturally eaten in the courtyard, with Lin Yang cooking himself, which earned Lingdang's praise once again.

Therefore, Lin Yang and Xu Hongdou had to take Lingdang, who had eaten too much that evening, for a walk around the village to digest before returning to their courtyard to rest.

Xu Hongdou wanted to sleep with a bell in her hand that night, so Lin Yang had to go back downstairs to room number five and sleep by himself.

The next morning, Lin Yang made breakfast. After Xu Hongdou finished packing the bell and came downstairs, and after they had breakfast, Lin Yang drove the temporarily rented car to the guesthouse where Xu Hongmi was staying in town.

"Why did you change your car?" Xu Hongdou couldn't help but ask when she saw that Lin Yang was driving a black SUV.

"This vehicle is more convenient to drive. Driving a motorhome feels weird; I always feel like a driver," Lin Yang said.

Xu Hongdou chuckled: "You're the driver today anyway. But this car is quite spacious, so it's more comfortable to sit in."

"By the way, my sister is a bit of a gossip. Don't take what she says to heart," Xu Hongdou added.

"It's our first meeting, you don't need to check my background or belittle me, do you?" Lin Yang joked.

Although Lin Yang had never met Xu Hongmi, he knew she was a very smart person. What businessperson couldn't be eloquent?

Xu Hongdou was quite eloquent, but she was completely suppressed by her older sister.

However, Xu Hongmi probably only speaks harshly to her sister; she wouldn't embarrass others the moment they meet.

"You don't understand my sister," Xu Hongdou said with a shake of her head and a smile.

In the town, in front of some quaint and charming guesthouses, Xu Hongdou, after getting out of the car, called Xu Hongmi: "Hey, we've arrived, come out!"

"Why do I feel like you're even more nervous than I am?" Lin Yang said with a smile, looking at Xu Hongdou.

Xu Hongdou took a deep breath and couldn't help but frown slightly as she looked at Lin Yang: "If my sister finds out about our relationship, she'll definitely ask all sorts of questions and nag endlessly. Aren't you nervous at all?"

"I have nothing to be ashamed of, why am I nervous?" Lin Yang chuckled.

Lin Yang might be a little nervous if he were to meet Xu Hongdou's parents, but meeting her sister, who isn't a difficult person, naturally doesn't make him nervous.

As the two were talking, Lingdang, who was still in the car, called out to her mother through the car window. Xu Hongmi, carrying a bag and wearing a sun hat, came out.

"Sister, this is Lin Yang. You can just call him by his name," Xu Hongdou said with a smile when she saw Xu Hongmi.

"I know, you're a travel blogger who wanders the world. I've been following you on Douyin," Xu Hongmi said with a smile and a nod to Lin Yang.

"Hello, Sister Hongmi!" Lin Yang smiled calmly and shook hands with Xu Hongmi.

"You didn't bring a campervan?" Xu Hongmi asked with a smile.

Xu Hongdou looked embarrassed, while Lin Yang laughed and said, "An off-road vehicle is more convenient. Hongmi, let's get in the car first!"

"Okay," Xu Hongmi nodded readily, walked around to the other side of the car, and got in.

After getting in the car, Xu Hongdou noticed that Xu Hongmi didn't look too well and couldn't help but ask, "How are you? Didn't you sleep well last night?"

"Oh no, the room is so poorly soundproofed, and there are mosquitoes and flying insects everywhere. Also, the bedding is so rough and uncomfortable," Xu Hongmi complained, frowning.

"This is already the best guesthouse in the area, it'll do!" Xu Hongdou said.

Xu Hongmi, who had remained noncommittal, noticed the wooden sculpture that Lingdang was playing with and exclaimed in surprise, "This is... Lingdang?"

"Mom, my aunt's husband carved this for me himself, isn't it beautiful?" As soon as Lingdang said this, the car had just been hit by Lin Yang.

The fire went out as soon as it started.

"Uncle-in-law?" Xu Hongmi raised an eyebrow at Xu Hongdou and Lin Yang, then smiled and said, "I didn't realize, Lin Yang, you're quite talented!"

"You flatter me, Sister Hongmi. I'm just learning for fun, it's purely a hobby," Lin Yang said with a smile, starting the car again and driving away.

"You've mastered so many hobbies; it seems you have strong learning and practical skills," Xu Hongmi said. Overall, she was quite satisfied with Lin Yang after their first meeting.

Lingdang exclaimed, "Mom, Uncle's cooking is so delicious!"

"Oh?" Xu Hongmi was even more surprised and couldn't help but laugh, "Lin Yang, is cooking a hobby?"

"I used to live alone and was used to cooking and eating for myself," Lin Yang said with a smile.

Xu Hongmi nodded slightly, feeling even more favorably disposed toward Lin Yang. A man who could cook and cook well was indeed rare, and that was a big plus.

"You said...you were always alone in the past?" Xu Hongmi couldn't help but ask. "Oh, don't misunderstand. Since you and my sister are dating, I naturally want to know about your situation so I can explain it to my parents later."

"It's alright, there's nothing I can't say. I've always been an orphan," Lin Yang said.

"Now?" Xu Hongmi asked, somewhat surprised.

"Now, I'm practically an orphan. I only have an older sister in Beijing who isn't related to me by blood. She's my biological father's adopted daughter," Lin Yang said.

Xu Hongmi suddenly realized: "Oh, then your father..."

"He passed away from illness a year or two ago," Lin Yang said.

"I'm sorry," Xu Hongmi quickly apologized.

"It's alright," Lin Yang shook his head and smiled, "Sister Hongmi, I don't have many relatives or friends, so after Hongdou and I get married, everything will definitely be based on your side, on Hongdou and her aunt and uncle."

"You two can discuss this yourselves," Xu Hongmi said with a noncommittal smile. "I'm in Shanghai. If you plan to go back to Zibo to be with your parents or bring them to live with you in the future, I have no objection."

"But you two haven't known each other for very long, have you? Are you already talking about marriage?" Xu Hongmi asked.

"I've met Lin Yang before. He stayed at our hotel when I was in Beijing," Xu Hongdou said. "When I go back in a while, I'll bring Lin Yang to meet my parents."

"Oh, so you're meeting the parents already?" Xu Hongmi was even more surprised, then nodded: "Okay, Hongdou, you're not getting any younger, just think it through yourselves."

"What do you mean 'not young anymore'? I'm only thirty this year," Xu Hongdou said, somewhat speechless.

"So you still think you're young?" Xu Hongmi retorted, leaving Xu Hongdou speechless.
