Chapter 34-Baptism
"Uh...it's alright."
Seeing this, Chris didn't know how to respond. He had simply given an objective description of his general situation over the past year, but he hadn't expected Pastor Frank to react this way.
After Frank finished speaking, he turned around again, bowed slightly to the statue of the Echo Wall, and muttered scriptures in a low voice. He then picked up the silver ring hanging on his chest with his right hand and waved it back and forth in front of his chest a few times.
Chris watched Frank's movements quietly. He noticed that the gestures Frank made in front of his chest, if connected together, formed a circle, and then a Z-shaped pattern was drawn on top of it.
This was almost identical to the special symbol he had seen on the luminous core of that star in the mysterious space.
The holy path that Chris obtained, originating from the Echo Wall of the Holy Spirit, is recorded therein; it is a holy seal unique to the Echo Wall.
Only sacred wedges made of special materials can be used to inscribe a sacred mark on the soul.
Only after inscribing the first holy seal can one truly embark on the holy path and become a holy path practitioner.
Although Chris was basically convinced that the memory fragments that the star had given up under those circumstances could not possibly be fake.
However, it's always safer to confirm things from multiple angles.
It is essential to maintain awe and caution when faced with such extraordinary knowledge that defies common sense.
After about ten seconds, Frank turned to Chris again and said, "The Holy Spirit has agreed that I can perform a baptism for you if you wish."
Upon hearing this, Chris's face showed a hint of surprise, but he was thinking to himself, "Is this what the Holy Spirit Church does when ordinary people might be affected by extraordinary forces? Or is it just some kind of ordinary religious ritual?"
Chris did not reply to Pastor Frank immediately.
If it weren't for what happened last night, he probably would have agreed to the other party without even thinking about it.
But now, he harbors too many secrets.
Whether it's the identity of a time traveler, the mysterious space that one can freely enter and exit, or the mysterious key in one's mind that can still be visualized at any time.
These are things that absolutely must not be exposed.
Chris dared not gamble; he didn't know whether the enthusiastic Frank was just an ordinary pastor or an extraordinary figure in the church.
If it is the latter, will the other party's so-called baptism involve the use of extraordinary powers, and will his secrets be exposed?
These are all unknown.
Seeing that Chris hadn't replied yet, Frank suddenly said, "Mr. Chris, don't worry, it's free."
After saying that, a smile reappeared on his face, and he continued, "I just saw that you donated money to the donation box when you came in."
"Mr. Chris, the Church of the Holy Spirit never does 'business'; the church's operating expenses come from government grants and voluntary donations from believers," Frank added.
Seeing this, Chris opened his mouth to explain, but then he didn't know what to say.
To put it bluntly, he has too many secrets?
That's probably not appropriate.
Pastor Frank had been observing Chris closely. He seemed to sense Chris's concerns and explained, "The baptism process is very simple. Even if you are not a believer in the Echo Wall, the Holy Spirit will still dispel your misfortune and help you forget your pain."
"This Holy Spirit is quite generous," Chris thought to himself.
He noticed Frank's last phrase, "to make you forget the pain," a statement that seemed unusual in this context.
Just as Chris was hesitating about whether to accept the baptism Frank had mentioned, a slightly deep voice suddenly rang out not far from the two of them.
"Good afternoon, Pastor Frank."
Chris and Frank looked in the direction from which the sound came almost simultaneously.
A woman wearing a burgundy silk sun hat, a veil, a burgundy turtleneck sweater, a matching burgundy plaid skirt, and a dark fur vest was smiling politely at Chris and his companion.
"Oh, it's Mrs. Warren, long time no see," Frank replied immediately after recognizing the visitor.
"I hope I haven't bothered you."
Mrs. Warren maintained her polite smile, her gaze first falling on Frank, then shifting to Chris.
"And who is this?" Mrs. Warren asked Frank with a curious expression.
Upon hearing this, Pastor Frank glanced at Chris, as if seeking Chris's opinion.
Seeing this, Chris also gave a very gentlemanly smile and slowly said, "Madam, you can call me Chris."
"So it's Mr. Chris." Mrs. Warren nodded slightly to Chris.
Although Chris did not activate his spiritual vision at this moment, his keen observation skills and inexplicable intuition told him that Mrs. Warren had deliberately interrupted at this time.
Chris noticed the woman as she approached him and Frank.
As the pastor here, it's perfectly normal for someone to come looking for Frank at this time.
But interrupting like this would be extremely rude.
Judging from Mrs. Warren's attire, she must belong to a relatively high social class.
The other party couldn't possibly be unaware of such basic social etiquette.
Chris was certain that he had never met the other person before, and that they were not the kind of friends who were so familiar with each other that they could disregard basic social etiquette.
Although most of the other person's face was covered by a veil, Chris could still tell from the other person's voice and the obvious wrinkles on their neck that the other person was probably quite old.
Estimated to be over 60 years old.
Chris wasn't sure what the other party's purpose was, but he could use this opportunity to say goodbye to Frank.
After Chris introduced himself to Mrs. Warren, he immediately turned to Frank and said, "Reverend Frank, it seems you have other things to attend to. I'd like to go back and think about that matter carefully before making a decision."
"Oh, of course. If you have any questions, you can come to this church to find me anytime. I'm here most of the time," Frank replied politely.
Chris then nodded politely to Pastor Frank and Mrs. Warren, gently placed the top hat he had been holding on his hair, and turned to walk out of the church.
As Chris's figure gradually disappeared into the distance, a hint of doubt and reminiscence flashed in Mrs. Warren's eyes.
Frank's gaze lingered for a moment between Mrs. Warren and the now-empty church doors, then he tentatively asked in a soft voice, "Madam seems to have a particular interest in that young gentleman?"
"no."
Mrs. Warren hesitated for a moment, then repeated, "I have never met this young Mr. Chris before."
She unconsciously emphasized the word "young" in her tone.
"But he looks very much like an old friend." Mrs. Warren thought to herself, without saying it aloud.
