Forests Don't Support Idle Goblins
Chapter 142 Evita's Request
"Build a thatched hut?" Xia Er chuckled, but in his mind he was already figuring out what to do.
He was determined to obtain those pure white stones, but that would require the centaurs to carry them during their migration. "Nobody would carry a few stones while moving house, would they?"
However, the other party wants to move to the area where the unicorns live. In that case, there are only two ways. One is to lead people riding worker ants to help the centaurs move and bring back all the stones along the way. The other is to expand your territory there and try to get the unicorns to move back. In this way, you can directly dismantle the white stones and build better houses for the centaurs.
"Yes, it's hard to get so many stones in the forest. We need to use these white stones to surround the ground to secure the branches and the deerskin tent," Evita gestured, explaining to Charles what their thatched hut looked like.
It sounded a bit like a small yurt. Charles nodded, then asked, "Besides the mimicry monsters you keep, what else is in that stone chamber?"
"Uh, no, what happened?" Evita thought for a moment and confirmed that there was nothing there.
"Oh, I mean if you're moving, you should take those mimics with you, right? Those guys are quite troublesome; they don't like light, and they're not small either." Charles leaned back in his chair and said with a hint of doubt, "If you want to move them, you'll have to carry them all out at night and transport them all the way to my territory, which I imagine is quite a hassle."
"That is a problem." Evita fell silent; she hadn't considered this issue. "If all else fails, we'll have to kill them all and only take the young mimics with us."
"No, that's even worse," Charles immediately shook his head in rebuttal. "I want to know why you insist on migrating?"
He felt that perhaps the centaur chieftain had considered the difficulties of the migration, the transport of these supplies, the uncertainty of the new territory, and the process of rebuilding a new village, all of which were full of challenges. As a leader of the tribe, he could understand the other party's concerns.
"Following the unicorn's trail is our tradition, but more importantly," Evita closed her eyes, paused, unsure whether she could tell the goblin in front of her the specifics, as he might immediately reject her tribe's request if he knew.
The two remained silent for a few seconds. After much deliberation, Evita finally decided to tell the truth. After all, she still wanted the help of the goblin tribe during the relocation process, and if she didn't tell them the truth now, they would find out in the future.
"Our people have encountered an enemy that is difficult to deal with, so I wanted to persuade them to migrate here," Evita said, holding her teacup with both hands and looking down. She didn't dare to look at the goblin opposite her, and she looked like a child who had done something wrong.
"An enemy? Is it an ogre?" Charles nodded. If it was the ogre monster they had encountered before, it wouldn't be difficult to deal with.
Ogres are classified as small giants in natural history books. They are physically strong but mentally lazy. They enjoy plundering and killing, and they have an exceptionally bad temper. They can be angered by the smallest things. When angered, these ogres will destroy everything around them, even other ogres, until there is no one left to vent their anger on.
However, their intelligence is the key to defeating them, just like when Charles used the Stink Ball to defeat the two-headed ogre.
“No, it’s not just ogres,” Evita looked up at the goblins opposite her, “There are quite a few ogres under their command, about a dozen or so, and some of them are ogre mages who can use magic burst spells.”
"These ogres are tough and resilient. Our tribe paid a heavy price to deal with them, and," she paused, then continued, "the forces behind the ogres are even more troublesome."
"The forces behind this?" Charles frowned.
"Those ogres are just mercenaries at best; they're driven by a bunch of goblins, and those goblins are the real problem."
"Goblins?" Sharl had heard of these monsters. They could be considered close relatives of goblins, but they were completely different from goblins. These guys had reddish-brown skin, hair ranging from dark red to dark gray, and long, sharp yellow teeth in their big mouths. Below their yellow or brown eyes were their big blue noses, and some had red noses. Natural history books recorded that the size of a goblin's nose symbolized their charisma and power.
They have an insatiable desire to conquer their surroundings. Although their lifespan is similar to that of humans, their fervor for battle often prevents them from living to old age. Moreover, they also lead other races in battle, the most numerous of which are goblins.
The goblins also form a small, organized, and disciplined army. Unlike the loosely organized goblin tribe, these guys even decorate their uniforms with various patterns and leathers. They prefer to call their group a "legion" rather than a tribe.
"The Forest Doesn't Keep Idle Goblins" - Stunning writing style and a captivating plot!
The legion has a clear division of labor and corresponding ranks, from the leader "general" to ordinary infantrymen. Even the goblins standing at the front with spears have corresponding class status. Moreover, these goblins can tame animals to help them fight. Compared to goblins who rush forward in a swarm with wooden clubs and shouting, they are more like a race with a certain level of civilization.
"This does present some problems." Charles stroked his chin, pondered for a few seconds, "How many of them are there? You should have fought them before, right?"
"We don't know how many there are," Evita shook her head. "We've fought them twice. They were very strong; they commanded a lot of goblins."
"Just goblins?" Ciel raised an eyebrow. "If they're just goblins, they shouldn't be too difficult to deal with."
He thought that the goblins of other races were still the same as before, stupid and cowardly. Once there were casualties, they would immediately collapse. Even if there were goblins supervising them, they would choose to fall to the ground and pretend to be dead. A few rounds of arrows from the centaurs would be enough to make those goblins back down.
"No, those goblins are tough to deal with. They're insane. Even with multiple arrows in their bodies, they'll still charge at us and fight us hand-to-hand." Evita closed her eyes and recalled, "My best friend was stabbed to death by several goblins with knives, and one of them was even pierced through the body by an arrow, but that still couldn't stop his madness."
Upon hearing this, Charles frowned. He couldn't believe that a goblin could train a goblin like this. It was hard to equate the words "fearless of death" with goblins, but the centaur girl didn't seem to be lying.
"The goblins must have used something to control those goblins, making them forget pain, fear, and death." Charles tapped his fingers rhythmically on the table. "This makes them a bit difficult to deal with. My current combat methods seem ineffective against them."
If you want to help the centaur migration, you might encounter them in the forest, but the enemies you've defeated before were all won through fortress defense battles.
"Field battle..." Sharl pondered a solution. "It's difficult at this stage. Even if we use all our means to fight the enemy, the result will only be mutual destruction, and my tribe may be completely wiped out."
"So what happened after that? They stopped attacking you?" He thought for a moment, then asked.
"Well, after the two battles, the goblins sent a few people to try and persuade us to surrender." Evita stared at the tea in her hand. After talking for so long, the tea had gone cold, but neither side seemed to care. "They made a pledge of allegiance to our people."
Hearing this, Charles raised an eyebrow; he could already guess what the other person was thinking.
"That's not loyalty at all, it's enslavement. They not only demand that we hand over most of our supplies, but also that all the able-bodied men in our tribe be recruited into their army to fight alongside them." Evita sighed and continued, "If we sign that pact, our centaur tribe will become their tools of war for generations to come, and it won't be long before our tribe is wiped out."
"So that's why you came out to look for unicorns?" Charles said with a smile.
Evita nodded, her eyes fixed on the goblin opposite her. "I would like to ask you for your help."
"This is a bit tricky." Charles considered the information he had gathered and pondered how to deal with it.
He looked up at the glowing mushrooms on the ceiling, mentally sifting through several options.
Half a minute later, under Evita's expectant gaze, Sharl finally spoke his mind: "There is a way, but it requires the cooperation of the centaur tribe."
Evita gazed longingly at the goblin opposite her, unconsciously gripping her teacup tightly, her eyes fixed intently.
Looking at the girl in front of him, Charles couldn't help but recall her arrogant demeanor when she first arrived at the fortress. He chuckled and said, "We'll help you by transporting your supplies in the dead of night. You need to process those things during the day, and you can't let the enemy find out."
"This requires your entire clan to work together and make preparations in the dead of night." Xia Er planned to take people to transport several portal components over at night, assemble them directly in that underground stone chamber, and after the centaurs packed all the supplies in advance, they would be transferred directly through the portal. After everything was handled, the portal would be disassembled and secretly transported back.
This is the best solution he can think of right now.
"But there's one more thing," Ciel said, looking at the centaur girl opposite him, "you must have snuck out, right?"
Upon hearing this, Evita's eyes widened immediately; she had no idea how the other person had guessed it.
