"It's not hard to guess." Charles held up a finger. "When we found you, you were all alone, and you didn't mention anything about your companions being captured. I don't think your chieftain would send you out alone to search for the unicorn."
"He is my father," Evita said, bowing her head.
"I understand, he doesn't want you to get involved in danger." Charles nodded, "but your proud nature still drove you to sneak out."
"However, there's one more thing I want to remind you of." He stared at the centaur girl in front of him, his tone serious. "You've suffered greatly from the goblins and gnomes before, and now you're going to seek refuge with a goblin tribe. Can your people accept that? If they can't, there will be big problems if you try to escape later."
Xia Er knew that the most troublesome thing about these group activities was getting everyone to agree on something. In the past, when the department organized activities, everyone had their own ideas about where to go and what to eat, making it impossible to reach a consensus. In the end, it was the department head who made the final decision and put everyone in a position to have nothing to say.
"I know, I'll go back and try my best to persuade them." Evita bit her lip. She knew that this was the most difficult part of the whole plan. Even when she first came into contact with the Sharl tribe, she was wary. It was only after observing them for many days that she finally decided to come and find the Sharl.
"You are very brave." Ciel looked at the centaur girl in front of him. He knew what kind of situation she was about to face. Sometimes teammates are more difficult to deal with than enemies.
"But I think I can help you." He laughed and jumped off the chair, then walked out of the stone chamber with his hands behind his back. Evita was a little puzzled by his behavior, so she put down her teacup and followed to see what he was going to do.
Charles strolled ahead leisurely, knowing that Evita was following behind, but he didn't turn around.
Soon the two arrived at the stone chamber at the entrance of the fortress, one after the other. Evita was stunned for a moment. She saw a snow-white creature lying on a clump of weeds next to the stone chamber. It was the unicorn.
"This guy likes to lie here at dusk, and he's probably used to it by now." Charles crouched down next to the unicorn and carefully approached. He had thought about moving it out before, since his subordinates were coming and going here and might startle it, but he found that the big guy was just lying here sleeping and living peacefully with his own kind, so he didn't care.
Evita cautiously approached the unicorn in front of her. She looked at the goblin squatting beside it with envy in her eyes. This unicorn was almost becoming a pet of the goblins. Could it still be used as a totem for them centaurs?
"Big guy, I need your help." Charles tried to reach out and stroke the unicorn. His movements were very gentle, and the unicorn looked at Charles silently.
"It won't hurt, just a little bit." Charles's hand slowly slid to the unicorn's tail, its long golden hair like brocade. Then he drew a short blade from his waist and, to Evita's gasp, cut off a strand of tail hair.
"Gray," the unicorn made a sound, seemingly protesting the goblin's behavior, but that was all.
Charles breathed a sigh of relief. When he did that, he was terrified that the unicorn would lunge at him and pierce him through. Fortunately, he had gotten along well with it these past few days and hadn't aroused its hostility.
"Take this, it should help you persuade your people." Charles handed the long golden hair to Evita; this was the only solution he could think of.
"I...you...this..." Evita was momentarily at a loss for what to do. Should she rebuke the other party for daring to cut the unicorn's fur, or thank the other party for taking the risk to make such an attempt, or should she now look at the unicorn's condition after its fur was cut off?
After hesitating for a few seconds, she wiped her hands on her clothes several times before finally solemnly extending her hands to take the unicorn's golden tail hair.
"You'd better tie them up with a rope so they don't come apart," Charles said, pointing to the long hair and laughing.
Evita nodded quickly, then stole a glance at the unicorn lying next to her. The unicorn didn't seem to care that it was missing a tuft of tail hair; it was just lying on the weeds and didn't even look at the area.
"Is this still our totem?" Evita thought to herself, her perception of unicorns beginning to change slightly.
"This should be enough, right?" Charles looked at the long golden hair in the centaur girl's hand, then turned to look at the unicorn lying there quietly. It still had a lot of golden hair on its tail. Since it didn't seem to mind much earlier, could it help him express his sincerity a little more? Anyway, he was helping the centaur, so it was only right to give it a little more hair.
"Then let's go back. There are still many details to plan to ensure the success of this operation." After saying that, Charles walked ahead with his hands behind his back.
Evita looked at the unicorn fur in her hand, then at the goblin in front of her, and suddenly realized that perhaps the unicorn had traveled south just to find this short goblin.
…………
In the northern forest, inside a huge tent, several goblins were eating roasted venison around a fireplace.
This tent is made of various colored leather pieces pieced together, making it look like it has been patched up many times.
The red-nosed goblin sitting at the top picked up a knife, stabbed a piece of venison in it, and without even checking if it was cooked through, popped it into his mouth and began to chew. "These centaurs' antlered deer are indeed quite good."
Several goblins around them nodded in agreement, and they also had some pieces of venison roasting in front of them.
"General, are we just going to let the centaur tribe go like this?" a goblin asked tentatively.
"This is the only way for now. If we fight them to the end, our strength will be weakened. They have already shown fear, and now is the time to take them down." The leader, General Evilthroat, stuck his dagger into the ground and looked north. "After all, our goal is not the centaurs, and we can only fight the goblin kingdom to the north if we accumulate enough strength."
"The general is right." The goblins all nodded in agreement.
"Now that these centaurs have signed their pledge of allegiance, we can keep exploiting them and even make them part of the Evilthroat Army. If we let them drink the 'holy water' as well, I believe the centaur's charge will be much stronger than the goblins'." After saying this, General Evilthroat looked at a large wooden barrel next to him, which contained the "Evilthroat Holy Water" he had just mentioned.
"General, Three Scars has arrived," a goblin walked in through the tent entrance and said.
"Let him in," General Evil Throat waved his hand.
Soon, a small goblin trotted into the tent and knelt down directly in front of Evilthroat. He bowed his head obsequiously and stammered as he asked General Evilthroat for instructions.
"Go do something," Evilthroat said, eating his venison without even glancing at the goblin on the ground. "I appoint you as the overseer of the ogre army. Go and urge the centaurs to hand over their supplies. Remember to collect as much of their supplies as possible and make them pay their share in the pledge of allegiance as soon as possible."
"Yes, General." Three-Scar raised his head and said respectfully, then his gaze fell on the venison in front of General Evil Throat, a hint of greed flashing in his eyes.
General Evilthroat casually cut off a piece of bloody venison and threw it in front of Scarface with a "thud." "Here's your reward. Tomorrow, take my order to the ogres."
As Threescar carried the venison out of the tent, the other goblins asked, "General, won't the goblins mess things up? They're stupid and greedy, they don't even know numbers, they definitely won't be able to carry out the orders, and they might even provoke a centaur rebellion."
"I know," Evilthroat said nonchalantly. "It's about having the goblins do this. Right now, those centaurs have just pledged allegiance and are lacking in fighting spirit. Let the greedy goblins plunder them, and when the centaurs can't take it anymore, then execute the goblins in front of them. It's a perfect solution."
"That's a great idea," several goblins chimed in.
"Don't exploit those goblins too much. Just feed them half full, and then feed them their fill when they're ready to fight," Evilthroat instructed the surrounding goblins, who were still needed to lead the charge in their battles.
Meanwhile, in an underground stone chamber not far from the tent, Three Scars proudly showed off the piece of venison to several goblins, saying, "See this? This is what the general gave me."
The other goblins looked at the piece of meat with envy. In the large pot next to them, some tubers and a few rats were cooking. This was their dinner. All the goblins in the Evilthroat Army ate the same thing every night.
"Green skin, want some?" Three-Scar deliberately handed the venison to a goblin who looked somewhat young. The three scars on his face looked like three wriggling earthworms as he smiled.
"I want to." The goblin approached, trying to grab the venison.
But then, Green Skin was kicked away by Three Scars. "Fool, this was given to me by the general."
Scarface tore large chunks of venison, his gaze sweeping over the goblins around him. He said contemptuously, "I'm the Ogre Overseer now. Tomorrow I can eat as much meat as I want."
Then he swaggered over to the pot, scooped up half a rat from it, and said, "I told you to follow my example, and now you won't have to eat this stuff anymore."
"When I start sleeping in a tent too, you'll have to kneel when you see me," Three Scars said smugly. Then he sat in front of the big pot, eating venison and rats from the pot, completely ignoring the hateful stares of the other goblins.
"Centaur, tomorrow marks the start of my good days, Three-Scar."
