Forests Don't Support Idle Goblins
Chapter 148 Gingerbread

Inside the stone chamber, the centaurs waited quietly to enter the portal.
It was only relatively quiet; they were still whispering among themselves. After all, the chieftain had told everyone during the day that they would be migrating that night, and no one was prepared at all.
They whispered amongst themselves, subtly pointing at several goblins around them; those who were well-informed had already shared what they knew with the others.
These centaurs carried all sorts of things, their faces filled with confusion, helplessness, surprise, and fear, but no yearning for the future.
Although the chieftain had told everyone that the destination of the migration was safe, a place chosen by the unicorns, the unknown still left everyone at a loss.
Several small groups of people started crying, and their mothers had to cover their children's mouths and noses, scolding or comforting them, trying their best to prevent their children from affecting everyone's mood.
Charles kept glancing at the centaurs out of the corner of his eye. He noticed that they only dared to look up at him occasionally before immediately looking away, as if he held the power of life and death over them. Although the centaurs from Orek kept explaining the situation to their people in low voices and telling everyone that the future was bright, Charles still saw distrust on their faces.
These centaurs knew their current situation and the dangers posed by ogres and goblins, but none of them wanted to change their living environment all at once, especially since this change was forced upon them. If things weren't handled properly afterward, they would miss even more the days when they lived in thatched huts, herded deer, and painstakingly cultivated tubers. After all, they had lived such a peaceful life for a long time and were completely used to it.
"It's not that simple after all." Charles ran his hand along the wall of the stone chamber, then rubbed the dust off his fingers. "However, let's bring them in first, and we can slowly cultivate their relationship."
The queue for teleportation was long. The first to leave were the mother centaurs and their children, followed by the younger ones. The middle-aged and elderly were left at the very end, even behind the various supplies.
This novel migration method was something the centaur tribe had never heard of before, and some young centaurs even broke away from the group to watch Broken Tooth operate the controller.
"Once we get to the fortress, there will be even more interesting things that will shock them," Charles muttered to himself, turning his gaze back to the walls of the stone chamber.
Just as the centaurs' escape was proceeding in an orderly fashion, several strong young centaurs rushed in and surrounded their chieftain.
Charles stopped and listened intently to the sounds coming from the other side. He could only vaguely make out the words "cannibal" and "coming."
He immediately went over. If the enemy came to stop them at this moment, it would inevitably cause panic among the centaur tribe, which would be completely detrimental to the overall progress. "The enemy is quite formidable; they even know to attack while the enemy is crossing the river."
"They're on their way. I wonder if the goblins have received the news," a centaur reported solemnly. They were all people sent by the chieftain to patrol the village.
"What's wrong?" Charles walked to the centaur's side and looked up to ask.
"Goblin chieftain, we may have been discovered. My warriors spotted an enemy goblin unexpectedly," the centaur chieftain said immediately. "They gave chase, but the goblin is fast and hidden in the shadows. I believe the ogres will be alerted soon."
"If that's the case, the goblins will definitely send people, and the Evilthroat Army won't let you leave." Charles concluded without hesitation, "We need to organize a group of people for defense at the same time."
"Don't worry, I had these considerations in mind, so I deliberately left the able-bodied and elderly behind," the centaur chieftain nodded and said. Then he turned to his people and instructed them, "Increase patrols, expand the area you cover, and be ready to engage the enemy at any time."
"Cao Cao, it's your turn to work." Charles turned around and called out. The troll who was sitting in the corner eating gingerbread immediately clapped his hands and stood up. Because he stood up in such a hurry, he knocked over the snack bag, spilling a lot of gingerbread.
"Alright, don't worry about it, I'll buy you new ones when we get back." He walked over and called to Cao Cao, then pulled him a few steps away. Then he saw several young centaurs tentatively walk over, pick up the gingerbread pieces, put them in their mouths, and let out a cry of surprise, as if it were the first time they had ever eaten such a thing.
"Give me the gingerbread," he said with a smile to Cao Cao, then took the bag under the other's reluctant gaze. He patted the troll, "I'll buy you other snacks when we get back, and I'll buy you three dozen of the rice pudding from before."
"Here, have some." He took the bag and walked up to the young centaurs, handing them the gingerbread cookies inside. Although many of them were no shorter than the Shire, they still timidly grabbed the bag.
After finishing this, Sharl turned around and pulled the troll away, completely ignoring the screams and laughter of the centaurs. "Damn, we need to set up a seatbelt."
…………
"Get up now and attack the centaurs!" Scarface shouted at the ogre.

When he ran back, he was spotted by the patrolling centaurs. He could only keep slipping and weaving through the bushes and shrubs, trying to hide himself. Under the cover of night, he finally made it back to the ogre camp.
Unfortunately, these guys were sleeping too soundly, and it took him a lot of effort to wake them up.
"We want to sleep," several ogres said impatiently, waving their hands as they tried to shoo away the goblins that swarmed like flies.
"I am the warlord, and I order you to fight now!" Scarface shouted, his hands behind his back.
"You're just a little bug." One of the ogres reached out and pinched his index finger and thumb together, and the other ogres burst into laughter.
"Those centaurs are trying to escape. Don't forget what the general told you to do: keep an eye on those centaurs." Three Scars had no choice but to invoke the name of General Evil Throat.
Upon hearing this, the ogres exchanged glances, but none of them wanted to get up from the ground. That was just their nature; laziness and greed were their defining characteristics, and the word "responsibility" would never exist in their dictionary.
"Those centaurs..." Scarface paced anxiously. He knew that if the centaurs escaped, he would definitely be killed by General Evilthroat, or even thrown to these ogres to be eaten. He didn't want that. He quickly came up with a plan: "They are cooking great antler deer. They've cooked a lot of them, and they're going to run away as soon as they're full. If you attack now, all that food will be yours."
Upon hearing that there was venison to eat, the ogres immediately perked up. They scrambled to their feet and grabbed their weapons.
"Venom is delicious; I haven't had enough of it these past few days."
"I like to eat it too, it tastes much better than goblins."
"All that boiled venison is ours."
The ogres roared and charged out of the camp, striding toward the centaur village, while Scarface immediately turned toward the Evilthroat Army's encampment. He wanted to see the general, report his discovery, and put on a show for him.
Before long, the ogres approached the village, and a foul stench wafted through the air.
"What is this smell? It stinks even more than you."
"Shut up, you and I share the same body, it's probably the smell from the guy next to us."
"It wasn't me. If you dare say that again, I'll beat you up."
The ogres started arguing, and some even started fighting. Soon, the leader called out to everyone, "It's the smell up ahead, from the forest. Maybe it's one of those farting rats."
"Disgusting skunks, their flesh is rotten." The ogres quickly decided to bypass this area. Driven by their greedy nature, the closer they got to the centaur village, the hungrier they felt. Some of the ogres were already muttering to themselves that they were going to eat a whole deer.
General Evilthroat had explicitly forbidden them from attacking the centaur village, which greatly displeased the ogres. They watched the great stags leaping and bounding around in their enclosures, like carrots hanging in front of them, unreachable yet always there.
Now that goblin not only ordered them to attack the centaurs, but also explicitly said they could eat deer meat, which made the ogres extremely happy. Anyway, if General Evilthroat blamed them, they could just push the blame onto the goblins.
Moreover, after eating boiled venison these past two days, they even considered moving their camp directly to the deer pen. Hearing that the centaurs were already cooking the giant deer, these ogres were drooling and trying to take a detour to reach the centaur village as soon as possible.
Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned. They walked around in circles, but the stench persisted, infuriating the ogres. "Did we disturb a skunk's nest?" they thought.
"It's still those centaurs cooking skunks."
"Charge!" The leader of the ogres finally gave up. After circling around for a long time, all they could smell was this stench. If they kept circling, they wouldn't be able to steal meat from the centaurs.
"It stinks!" one of the cannibals shouted.
"Just bear with it, it's only slightly stronger than the smell of you." The leader of the ogres covered his mouth and nose, lowered his head, and charged into the forest.
Then the rest rushed over as well.
…………
"These are for you," Charles said to the centaur chieftain with a smile, pointing to the things on the ground.
Those were items unloaded from a worker ant's cargo box: several longbows and a large number of arrows.
"Evita told me that you have very little iron, especially since your arrowheads are all made of bone. I'll get you these arrows right away." He picked up a quiver from the ground and took out an arrow from it. "Each one has an iron arrowhead like this. I believe they will be of help to you."
"The stench barrier I had the trolls throw out won't hold them off for long. You'd better get ready now."
