Forests Don't Support Idle Goblins
Chapter 153 Underground Ruins
"This is it." Charles stood in front of a few withered trees, and a stone on the ground showed obvious signs of human carving.
Early in the morning, he led his men and John Jr. along the route they had taken north to the site where only a small corner of the ruins was visible. When he successfully reached the marker, the full picture of the marker was revealed: a question mark.
"Looks like we don't need to fight anymore." Charles stepped on the pointed rock. "Let's start digging."
Then, the goblins took out shovels and hoes from the backs of the worker ants behind them and began digging along the rocks.
"Boss, how did you find this place?" Little John asked, staring at the rock with some surprise.
"When I was exploring north last time, I passed by here, and I thought this rock was very interesting. It looks like the spire of a building," Charles said with a smile.
John clicked his tongue in amazement, marveling at his boss's incredible luck. "By the way, I placed an order for all those parts with the blacksmith yesterday. They're planning to bring in workers from other towns to make them for you."
"Yes, you can tell them that the arrows can wait, but the lances and horse armor need to be finished as soon as possible." Charles nodded and gave Little John another instruction.
He felt that the goblins wouldn't let this go so easily. The centaurs, which were originally theirs, had escaped right under their noses. As an evil race that valued conquest above all else, they would definitely search the forest extensively, and one day they would surely encounter their own kind again.
This time, Valentine is no longer an option; we must rely on our own strength to defeat the enemy.
Fortunately, Valentine won't be sending troops to sweep through the forest for the foreseeable future, which means I'm free from worries and can consider this a milestone. Now I need to focus on expanding in the forest until the Kingdom of Fran is in chaos, at which point I can assess the situation and seize the opportunity to gain an advantage.
To expand in the forest, they must march north, and the Evil Throat Army is the first nut to crack.
To be honest, even without the unicorns and centaurs' requests, I would have encountered the Evilthroat Army anyway. It's just that now there's an extra layer of buffer, so I won't run headlong into those crazy red goblins and suffer huge losses.
"I've already spoken to him," Little John replied with a smile. In the past few days, besides playing one-on-one with Grass, he had also done a lot for the centaurs, especially being amazed by their archery skills. He even firmly believed what his boss had said: "Every adult centaur is a seasoned archer."
"It's almost finished digging." Sharl stood at the edge of the construction site, watching his men dig downwards. With the efforts of several goblins, the building gradually revealed its full form.
"Unlike the previous passageways, this looks like the entrance to a complete underground building." Charles crouched down, staring at the stone door that had been dug out. The entrance to this ruin had taken these goblins more than an hour, and it looked exactly like a certain man-made structure.
"Do you feel anything?" He led a furoo to the stone gate, wanting it to sense it first.
"Yes, a lot of telepathy." Furu's whiskers turned a curious green.
"A lot?" Charles frowned. This meant there was something inside the ruins, but it probably wasn't an evil creature. "Should we disturb them?"
"Red Eyes, give it a try." He thought for a moment and instructed his men to try pushing the stone door open a crack to take a look.
With a loud "crack," the stone door made a heavy sound, and Chi Mu pushed it open with little effort, creating a 20-centimeter gap.
Charles tried reaching into a torch, and seeing that no monsters attacked it, he threw the torch in forcefully. As the torch streaked through the air and fell to the ground, Charles quickly scanned the contents and saw many stone coffins inside.
"So many stone coffins." He was surprised. "Is this an underground cemetery?"
"If that's the case, Furu must have sensed the creatures in those sarcophagi." Charles cautiously threw in a few more torches, allowing him to see the underground cemetery more clearly.
The stone coffins were not very large, just the size of ordinary coffins, but they were made of stone, and there were quite a few of them, about 30 or so.
"What could be inside? Skeleton soldiers, zombies, or vampires?" Charles pondered whether to enter the ruins. Although the place was marked with a question mark on the map and not with dual swords, he couldn't guarantee that the other party wouldn't be aggressive. "If there are more than 30 vampires living inside, and they turn us all into their servants, then that's another kind of 'I'm doing this for your own good,' isn't it?"
"Red Eyes," Charles thought for a moment, then took out two scrolls from behind him and handed them to his subordinates. "Tear up these two scrolls for the Acceleration Spell and the Foot Oil Spell."
Then, he had Little John stand with him, ready to close the stone door at any moment. "Red Eyes, you go in first, be careful. When I let you out, run back immediately."
It's daytime now, and the surrounding area is full of dead trees. The sunlight shines perfectly into this area. (Save this article and continue reading "The Forest Doesn't Keep Idle Goblins" anytime, anywhere.) If it were a vampire inside, it certainly wouldn't want to rush into the sunlight. So, as long as Red-Eyed runs out, closing the stone door will keep the danger out.
As the red-eyed man tiptoed into the underground cemetery, Charles nervously watched the stone coffins.
"Grumble," a soft scraping sound of stone rang out, and Charles immediately widened his eyes in alarm. "Red Eyes, turn back."
Upon hearing the leader's order, Chi Mu didn't speak. Instead, he hunched his neck, tiptoed, and swayed toward the door, carrying his greatsword. He looked just like a "Japanese soldier" walking into a room full of booby traps.
"Grabbering," the sound of stones rubbing together rang out one after another. Xia Er could already see that the lids of those stone coffins were being moved open a little, and something was about to come out from inside.
With a "snap," a skeletal arm rested on the mouth of the stone coffin, and then the coffin lid was pushed open by another skeletal hand.
With a "bang," the sarcophagus lid fell to the ground, and a gray-white skeleton sat up.
"Skeleton soldiers?" Charles breathed a sigh of relief. These monsters were easy to deal with; once they were scattered, they wouldn't pose much of a threat. "Let's see what else is here."
A series of falling sounds rang out as skeletons kept lifting their coffins, looking around blankly, with two small green dots appearing in their dark eye sockets.
"Crack!" With their movements, a sound of bones grinding came from the ground. Some of the skeleton soldiers had already stood up from the stone coffins, and then, under Xia Er's wary gaze, they took out longswords from the coffins.
"They really are skeleton soldiers. It seems we may need to fight them." Charles said softly, then he had Red Eyes and Little John step into the stone chamber to prepare to deal with these seemingly low-level undead monsters.
As Red Eyes and Little John moved, the skeleton soldiers noticed them. Soon, a skeleton soldier charged at them with a rusty longsword. "Clang!" Red Eyes blocked the longsword with all his might, which caused the blade to break and send him flying.
But then, ignoring the broken sword, the skeleton soldier suddenly ducked down and kicked Red Eye away in an unbelievable way.
On the other side, Little John also engaged in combat with a skeleton soldier. He parried continuously, and the sound of weapons clashing rang out constantly, but it seemed that the future hero was the weaker one.
"This..." Charles's eyes widened in shock. His two subordinates were being beaten so badly by the two skeleton soldiers that they could only defend themselves. This was completely unexpected.
"What on earth are these guys?" He took a few steps forward and tried to bring up the other party's interface.
Name: Skeleton Warrior
Race: Undead
[Danger Level: 5, Slightly Strong]
[Personality: Loyalty]
"Skeleton Warriors?" Charles exclaimed in shock. "Are these the only ones here?"
He immediately shouted to Red Eyes and Little John, "Come out first, these guys are not someone you can handle."
Red Eyes quickly dashed out, while Little John parried the opponent's longsword, then slapped off one of its arms before turning and running away.
The three of them worked together to close the stone door. Just as the door was about to close, Xia Er saw the skeleton warrior pick up his broken arm from the ground and reattach it. Then it raised its head slightly, looking at him, its jaw twitching as if it were laughing.
Moreover, from beginning to end, only these two skeleton soldiers attacked Red Eye and Little John, while the other skeleton soldiers just stood at a distance with their longswords and watched, giving off a feeling of watching a show.
"These guys are strange." Charles leaned on the stone door, looking at the undead monsters inside with surprise.
If they had all rushed at them, Red Eyes and Little John would probably have been in grave danger, but they didn't. "It's just like how I feel standing on the sidelines watching Little John and Cao Cao spar."
"And if these guys are all this powerful, what's in this underground cemetery? Are they guarding something?" Charles slowly retreated, and the goblins around him took out their weapons and stood guard, afraid that the stone door would be pushed open with a "clatter" and several skeleton soldiers would rush out.
However, such worries were clearly unnecessary. After the stone door was closed, there was absolutely no reaction, not even a sound, as if the skeleton warriors had no intention of leaving this underground cemetery.
"This is so strange. This is completely different from the skeleton soldiers described in the book. The skeleton soldiers in the book would attack any living thing in front of them." Charles stroked his chin, thinking of a solution. "It seems we have no choice but to go back now. There must be something important in here."
"But with these skeleton warriors, it will definitely be difficult to obtain them. What should I do?" He stared intently at the stone door.
"No, there's another way."
