Forests Don't Support Idle Goblins
Chapter 29 "Drink-Invincible" Alchemy Workshop
"But the Tower of Babel is, after all, just a legend," Charles said calmly.
He decided to keep the fact that he possessed a fragment of the Tower of Babel key a secret for the time being, since it was a complicated matter.
"From a historical point of view, the legend does have some basis," Agatha said, as she brewed a pot of tea with a small teapot and refilled her and Charles's teacups.
"Ah, no need, thank you." Charles waved his hand, trying to refuse.
"Won't you have some? This is chrysanthemum tea from the Saros Islands," Agatha said.
"Then let's have a drink." Charles knew this stuff wasn't cheap; ships had transported this kind of cargo before. "But the one before wasn't very good."
"Oh, the first thing I poured for you was water for washing the kettle," Agatha said calmly, then pushed the teacup towards the other person. "Try it."
Charles put away his disgusted expression, smelled the teacup, and a faint floral fragrance entered his nostrils. He picked up the cup and tasted it; the taste was indeed quite good, light and refreshing, with a hint of sweetness.
"So you still have to follow this legend." Charles held the cup and turned to look at the packet of flower tea that Agatha had just used to brew.
"Hmm." Agatha put down her teacup. "I also have other reasons for looking for it."
Charles took a sip of tea and listened attentively.
"I am a bloodline sorcerer; you can tell from my black hair and purple eyes, right?"
Charles nodded, finished the rest of his tea, and naturally poured himself another cup. He had heard rumors about bloodline sorcerers.
"Although the transformation curse caused very little damage to my bloodline, it only changed my appearance. My voice and bloodline appearance have not changed at all, and my magical abilities have only been slightly affected. However, so many years have passed, and the twelve bloodlines have gradually declined. We have been looking for an opportunity to reshape our bloodlines."
The Twelve Bloodlines refer to the great feat of the pirate ship "Flying Fat Lady" crossing the boundary wall a thousand years ago. The twelve crew members on board later possessed extraordinary magical abilities, which were different from the four major schools of thought, so they were called Bloodline Warlocks.
The plump woman was a widowed countess who sponsored their ship.
"My surname, Sebastian, is one of them; it means 'the chosen one,'" Agatha explained.
"I see. I sometimes find it strange too, since this word is often used as a name." Charles took a big gulp.
"So you know how important the Tower of Babel is to me, right?"
"Do you have any leads?" Charles asked.
"I suspect, just suspect," Agatha emphasized, "that the entrance to the Tower of Babel is somewhere in the Nightmare Forest."
"Is that so?" Charles said in a light tone, and casually went to get the teapot again.
"I only have this much tea left." Agatha stretched out her long, slender, white fingers and pressed down on the teapot, looking at Ciel with a resentful expression.
"Alright." Charles put down his cup. He hadn't had chrysanthemum tea in a long time, and he really missed it.
"Tell me about yourself, what are you going to do now?" Agatha said, holding her teacup in both hands and leaning back in her chair.
"Me?" Charles smirked. "I'm going to give the world a goblin shock."
Agatha looked at her old classmate with a mischievous grin, raised an eyebrow, and listened attentively to what she had to say.
"I plan to lead my men to conquer all the goblin tribes in the forest, integrate them, and eventually unify the entire Nightmare Forest," Charles said with a smile.
"Just those goblins outside?" Agatha's tone revealed a hint of disdain.
"Yes, are they alright?" Charles asked.
"It's just a little sleeping magic. I've already cast a barrier." Agatha glanced at the door; there were no magical fluctuations, proving that nothing had happened.
Then she poured Xiaer another cup of chrysanthemum tea and said, "Do you know how big the Nightmare Forest is? It's no smaller than any kingdom, and there are countless goblins here."
"I know, but I'll still do it." Charles took a sip of tea and slowly explained the reason.
The Merlot family's territory is located at the mouth of the Darren River. Although its area is not as large as that of other inland barons, it has the advantage of having an excellent port.
Seven years ago, his father emptied his savings and borrowed money from the Chamber of Commerce to finally build a deep-water port. This means that Torch City's port will be able to accommodate a large number of ocean-going vessels, and the city will become an important shipping hub.
Sugar, coffee, and various gems from the islands at sea, and furs and minerals from the interior, could also be transported along the Dallen River.
Within five years, my father had paid off the loan.
Just when everyone thought the Mello family was about to rise to prominence, everything changed.
"Treason." Charles scoffed, surprised that he would one day have the opportunity to experience something he hadn't even committed. "I feel that this enormous fortune has been coveted by someone. I don't know who it is, but whoever it is, I just want to take back what's mine."
"So you chose goblins?" Agatha asked.
"Yes, although he looks weak, he is very obedient. Once you gain their trust, they will do anything for you." Charles spoke calmly, as if full of confidence. "This is a power that has been overlooked by the world. If we can unite them, it will be a tremendous force."
"Now I realize you really are Charles Mello. You look exactly the same as when you were at the Academy," Agatha said with certainty.
"However, I have another suggestion," Charles said with a smile, "I'd like to invest in the 'Undying' Alchemy Workshop."
"How did you know?" Agatha stared in astonishment.
"Those packages over there, you know goblins are short of supplies, so many of them are patchwork of different fabrics, Ms. Virtini," Charles calmly pointed to the packages at one end of the long table.
"I see. It seems you have your own channels. Do you know what these herbs are used for?"
"What are you doing?"
"Awakening Potion, which allows one to stay in the Nightmare Forest longer; one bottle can extend one's stay by almost a day." Agatha extended a slender, slender finger.
Charles frowned and said, "You mean the adventurers have to take drugs to enter the Nightmare Forest?"
"I bet you know something about the Brotherhood of Storms," Agatha said with a look that said, "If you don't know, I've misjudged you. Those adventurers are going to be very willing to invest."
"It doesn't matter, they might not be able to find me anyway." Charles jumped off the chair. "What I need are potions. I'll provide the raw materials for all the potions you can make. The more sphere I control in the future, the more benefits you'll receive."
"Then why don't I exchange you for 30 gold coins?" Agatha rested her chin on her hands and looked at Ciel with a smile.
The goblin was startled and took a step back.
"Hahaha." The wrinkled old hag Agatha laughed charmingly, "Just kidding, you can invest."
"Alright, I'll be the chairman." Charles breathed a sigh of relief.
"On what grounds?"
"Because I am the future king of the forest," Charles said calmly.
"King of the Forest, do me a favor and prove your abilities," Agatha said softly. "I need slime cores, lots of them, but these monsters usually only exist in ruins or dungeons; they're almost nonexistent around the forest."
Agatha smiled at Ciel, her expression seemingly saying, "Can you handle this?"
