"This thing probably can't be used in the water." Pazzani looked down at the binoculars in his hand, glancing up several times to press the lens to his eyes and look into the depths of the forest.
"It's unusable, since the environment in the water is different." Charles also took out his binoculars and examined the distant forest.
"We Naga are born in the water, and we are naturally able to sense changes from a great distance through the flow of water," Pazzani pointed to the fleshy beard around his mouth, "all thanks to this."
Charles glanced at the Naga prince beside him. When the prince saw Charles looking over, he pursed his lips a few times, causing his fleshy whiskers to twitch.
"But speaking of which, are you really planning to start a war with them like this? This time, there's no ice magic circle and that druid from last time." Pazzani said, while looking into the distance through his binoculars.
When Charles looked at him, he noticed that the guy's physique was exactly the same as the bottom-dwelling demon fish he had hunted in the frogman cave, and he was ready to turn around and run away at any moment.
"I think we should all hide in the underground fortress and seal the entrance from the inside. That way, we can come out after the goblins get bored and leave. Anyway, these goblins can't do anything to Zunesha, so we can just leave Zunesha on the surface."
"No," Charles shook his head. "Let's not even talk about whether the fortress can hold all these people right now. The centaur village is already mostly built. If we give up now, who knows what kind of destruction those goblins will cause? Burning it all down is the best-case scenario. Besides, how do you know we won't win?"
Hearing Sharl's confident reply, Pazzani was silent for a few seconds. "Alright, since Shuiyu Mo has been sending me to find you, perhaps you really can create a miracle. But I still have to remind you that the other side has probably brought quite a few goblins this time, as well as those petrified lizards. You need to be extremely careful when dealing with them."
Charles nodded to indicate that he understood. This was the third time he had heard the Naga prince's reminder. It seemed that Pazzani still didn't have much hope that his people could eventually defeat the goblins of the Feathered Serpent Kingdom. But given the current balance of power, he estimated that many people would share the same opinion as Pazzani.
But Sharl knew he still had a few trump cards up his sleeve to calmly deal with the enemy's attacks. There was also a reason for the battle that he hadn't told the Naga prince: the tribe's development to this point, although some battles had been perilous, had generally ended in victory for them. This had led to a fanatical sense of confidence among the goblins. Sharl knew that this confidence would inevitably collapse if it were to suffer defeat or avoid battle, so he could only keep looking for ways to achieve final victory.
After all, the current situation of the tribe is still very difficult, and it is not enough to build a real army, an army that can withstand defeat and not fall.
That would require the tribe to have sufficient reserves of resources, a large enough population, and a deeper level of education to change the primitive mindset of goblins.
"There's something," Pazzani suddenly exclaimed, "in the sky."
Without using a telescope, Xia Er could clearly see the several magnified black dots in the sky—those were the flying goblins. "It seems they've arrived; the battle is about to begin."
Hearing Charles's words, Pazzani wisely kept quiet, awaiting his next command. This time, he carried a large bucket of water to facilitate the casting of water magic, but if the battle went poorly, he would immediately pull Charles along and run away. "How will he handle this?"
…………
"They've already assembled?" Baldy was taken aback by the flying goblin's report. "I was planning to use the dense forest to hide the team and launch a surprise attack."
Seeing that his plan had failed, he wasn't particularly upset. Instead, he adjusted his newly made pheasant-tail crest and took a few steps forward. "This forest is still the same as it was a while ago."
"Commander," several goblins gathered around, seemingly some cavemen, "now that those guys are on alert, should we call back the goblins who left and charge in together?"
"No need," Baldy waved his hand in refusal, but seeing the hesitant look on the cavemen's faces, he knew they must still have some thoughts on their minds. "Many days ago, I led a team here. At that time, the surrounding environment was the same, and everything was still the same as before."
"Although we lost last time, it showed me their strength." He straightened his back, trying to keep his tail feather crest from slipping. "I don't understand why you all made me call back the other group of goblins. I only used some minor maneuvers. Do you know what that's called?"
He turned to look at the cave dwellers behind him. "This is called wisdom, the thing the high priest often talked about, the thing we should strive to learn."
"Once the battle begins and the enemy defends our attack with all their might, the other goblin group can easily break into their undefended area. Then the enemy will flee in panic, and we will achieve final victory."
"But officer, we always fight together," several village chiefs advised.
"That was just a brawl, not a battle, not the military force the High Priest spoke of," Baldy said arrogantly, glancing at the cavemen. "In any case, we outnumber them, so the advantage is on our side."
He waved his hand and gave the final order, "Let the lizards advance and drive them to charge the enemy ranks."
…………
"Such a noisy commotion," Charles frowned, peering through his binoculars into the gaps in the forest. This time, the enemy seemed to have gotten smarter, hiding deep within the woods without showing themselves. "Making such a fuss, they must have sent in the petrifying lizards."
"Then what do we do?" Pazzani asked immediately, his tone urgent. "Should we have the centaurs unleash a rain of swords?"
"No, not now," Charles squinted. He could already see the leaves rustling in the forest through his binoculars. It must be a large group of creatures moving through the woods. Only those petrified lizards could make such a commotion. "This time, I'll have my men show you something fun."
After saying that, he immediately ordered the lame man to direct the goblins to load the cannonballs and fire them at the furthest distance of the three gears.
Soon, shouts and yells came from the front of the group, and a group of goblins were frantically operating something. Pazzani observed through his binoculars for two seconds, "What are those black tubes? Are those what you used to deal with the petrified lizards?"
His tone revealed deep skepticism; the Naga prince clearly did not have a high opinion of such a strange thing.
"Should we retreat first..." Before he could finish speaking, several shouts came from the front of the group, and then he saw something being thrown out. "What's that? A small black dot, it looks familiar."
Meanwhile, in the distant forest, the rustling sound grew louder and louder, and finally a six-legged lizard, wagging its tail, rushed out of the bushes. It wasn't very fast, perhaps because of the winter temperature, but that didn't stop it from locking its greedy, bloodthirsty eyes on the goblin in front of it, tempted by the food.
Then, petrified lizards kept rushing out. After pausing for a moment, they immediately swarmed towards Shire's group. During this time, Baldy had intentionally reduced the amount of food given to the petrified lizards in order to stimulate the ferocity of these cold-blooded animals.
"So many, so many lizards!" Pazzani shouted, holding binoculars in one hand and reaching out with the other to grab Charles beside him, fear making him ready to run away at any moment.
But then, "boom boom boom," a series of explosions rang out, and a cloud of smoke and flames shot up, directly interrupting the charge of the petrified lizard horde. Many lizards were blown up belly-up, and others were set ablaze by the incandescent glue, hissing as they rolled on the ground, trying to extinguish the flames on their backs. Unfortunately, the flames from the incandescent glue were not so easy to put out.
"Straight ahead, third gear, volley fire!" The lame man stood on a large blue disc and shouted arrogantly. "Big Baby" lifted him up, making him float two meters above the ground, where he could clearly see the horrific state of the petrified lizards.
Following the lame man's command, the goblins continued to load shells and fire with amusement. The twenty rune mortars kept firing shells. Since no gunpowder was used, there was no risk of the barrels exploding. The goblins, on the contrary, regarded them as "toys".
"Serious, we're fighting!" the lame man shouted, but unfortunately, the goblins paid no attention and continued to chatter and laugh.
The cannonballs continued to rain down on the petrified lizard swarm. The explosions and flames terrified many of the lizards, who huddled together, bumping into each other. Some even tried to retreat, but many petrified lizards were aroused by the surrounding blood and began to charge towards the Sharl tribe.
"Straight ahead, second gear, volley fire." Seeing that many petrified lizards were rushing over again, the lame man immediately changed his order. Thanks to previous training, the goblins operating the rune mortars did not panic. Instead, they immediately adjusted the gun barrels and began firing shells at nearby targets.
"This thing is good, but its effectiveness is limited," Pazzani said, holding the binoculars and clicking his tongue in amazement. "If a few lizards were to rush over, chaos would be inevitable."
"Don't worry, things won't get chaotic," Charles smiled confidently, then instructed the goblin beside him, "Have Cao Cao rush over and stop any of the giant lizards from charging in."
Soon, a gray-white figure in the group stood up with a "whoosh," patted the food crumbs off his hands, and then picked up two huge iron hammers from the ground and charged towards the front of the group with a "bang bang bang."
As soon as the battle began, Cao Cao swung his hammer and knocked down a petrified lizard that was charging at the front. Before the lizard even touched the troll, its blood-red eyes flashed with a dazzling light. Unfortunately, its petrifying gaze had no effect on the troll at all.
"Eighty, eighty." Cao Cao swung the hammer, shouting the words that Xia Er had taught him. He didn't know why he would shout this word after hitting the target once, but Xia Er said that shouting it would give him a lot of strength. After swinging the hammer a few times, Cao Cao actually felt that he was full of strength.
"What a powerful troll," Pazzani said through gritted teeth, his fleshy whiskers twitching. Cao Cao, clad in full bone armor, single-handedly held off the swarm of petrified lizards. "Why doesn't the petrification vision work on him?"
"Ah, it's just some auxiliary measures for magic immunity." Charles shrugged, but the twitching corner of his mouth betrayed his pain. "That magic craftsman dared to charge so much money to inlay magic immunity on the bone armor."
"But there are too many petrified lizards. I doubt he can handle it alone," Pazzani said somewhat guiltily.
As if in response to that statement, Cao Cao slammed her shoulder down, and the shoulder armor made from the incredibly sturdy head of a benthic demon fish sent a petrified lizard that had climbed onto the back of another lizard and was about to launch a sneak attack flying. Then, Cao Cao shouted, and red liquid kept flowing out from the gaps in the armor, slowly gathering together, and finally a red figure that looked just like Cao Cao appeared on the battlefield.
The two "trolls" worked together to once again withstand the siege of the petrified lizards. Their sturdy bone armor, powerful strength, and constantly smoking regenerative abilities allowed Grass to remain standing.
"Boom boom boom!" The shells continued to explode. After switching to second gear, the range was shorter, and the number and speed of shells increased. The bloodthirsty petrified lizards began to flee and bite each other, probably due to fear.
However, there were simply too many petrified lizards, and relying solely on cannonballs and grass was not enough to completely control the battlefield situation.
"Whoosh whoosh," just as Pazzani was about to say something, a rain of swords fell from the sky, turning several petrified lizards into "hedgehogs."
The centaurs began to hurl a rain of swords into the air. The Sharl had told them before that they didn't need to worry about the grass in the middle of the battlefield, as the trolls had sturdy bone armor and regenerative abilities, so even if they were riddled with arrows, they wouldn't die.
So Evita led the centaurs, hurling arrows with unbridled abandon. Unlike the excited goblins, the centaur warriors remained silent in battle, like ruthless projectile machines, only knowing how to draw their bows, nock arrows, and fire.
"Finally, the petrified lizards' charge has been stopped." Charles said in a low voice. This time, he didn't use his binoculars, but instead put his hands behind his back and stared at the ever-expanding swarm of lizard corpses in the distance.
"He looks so calm and collected." Pazzani put down his binoculars and glanced at Charles beside him. The Naga prince couldn't help but feel a little envious of Charles's appearance. "So confident."
At the same time, several flying goblins landed in front of Baldy. "Commander, the giant lizards can't get through; they're all being blocked."
Although these goblins fly in the sky and can observe the entire battlefield, they do not have the eyesight of eagles or telescopes, so they can only report based on what they see.
"They actually managed to stop the giant lizard," Baldy's lips twitched repeatedly. "What kind of weird magic are these guys using now? Never mind, all of you, charge!"
He waved his hand and decided to send all the flying goblins up.
At his command, a large horde of goblins began to rise from the forest, each carrying a sharpened stick or a few stones, and began to fly towards the Shire tribe.
"Flying goblins?" Sharl looked up at the sky, then Red-Eyed said from a short distance away, "Your turn."
Red-Eyed shouted loudly, beckoning the surrounding goblins to gather around. Each of them carried a long pipe and shouted:
"Apiji, Apiji."
