Forests Don't Support Idle Goblins

Chapter 316 An Ordinary Goblin

When Charles heard Broken Tooth's report that some of the invading goblins had actually set off to take a detour, he was shocked and his mouth dropped open.

Considering that the other side had previously resorted to tactics like persuasion to surrender, Sharl couldn't help but chuckle. He guessed that all the goblins in the Nightmare Forest would charge into battle in a swarm, regardless of age or gender. If they won, they would annex the enemy; if they lost, they would join the enemy; and if they were killed, they would join the enemy in scattered ways. This had become an ironclad rule of the goblin race.

But now he actually encountered a goblin who tried to use "tactics" and "strategies," which piqued Sharl's interest. However, when he thought about the other party's level, he felt a little bored.

There's no other reason than that the other party's intelligence is limited, and they haven't yet escaped the category of stupidity.

Since they had already divided their forces and wanted to launch a pincer attack, they decided to defeat them one by one. So, based on Broken Tooth's report, Charles ordered him and Nine Fingers to lead some goblins to deal with the invading enemy.

He already knew that Nine Fingers had developed new magic, and with the addition of other weapons, dealing with those goblins shouldn't be a problem. He even specially made a staff for Nine Fingers, but it was a bit of a pity that this thing didn't seem to have any effect on Nine Fingers.

Currently, only three members of the tribe can use magic. This is the result of Sharl's experiments. Thanks to the blessing of the God of Battle and Glory, the three of them have also undergone some changes. Nine Fingers has learned a new spell—"Fire Pig Spell"; Lame Leg has improved his "Arcane Servant". His "big treasure" has not only grown larger, but it can also make Lame Leg stand on it and float in mid-air. It seems that Lame Leg is still developing new uses for the Arcane Servant; and Bucktooth, since being given "Natural Wind" by Sharl to take care of the Tree People tribe, has gradually developed an ability that belongs only to him—"Poem of Encouraging Happiness". The effect is that individuals who hear Bucktooth's self-composed poems will feel a strange sense of comfort and happiness, regardless of whether they find the poem pleasant or unpleasant.

"I have a feeling that my team has embarked on a strange path of development."

Every time he thought about this, Charles got a headache. He knew a little about the magic apprentices in this world and knew that every magic apprentice strictly followed the teacher's instructions to learn spells. Those spell models had been refined and modified over thousands of years and were recognized as the most convenient way to learn.

Of course, he had also heard that some mage apprentices would develop some minor spells that were unique to them, but those were just minor spells. After all, the ultimate goal of every mage apprentice was to become a high-level archmage, and minor spells alone were not enough.

However, the goblins in the tribe now learned magic only because he granted them abilities, which made Sharl unsure of what to do next. Should he let them develop freely, or try to get them to receive a proper magical education?

"It's a pity that only three and a half of the goblins in the tribe speak Common." Sharl and Bucktooth each count as one, while Lame, Nine Fingers, and Broken Tooth are still learning Common and can only be counted as half.

"Forget it, let's just let them develop for now." After careful consideration, Charles decided to wait and see, at least until Uncle Musa got the materials for the Naga potion before making any further plans.

Looking at the sky in front of him, he saw the flying goblins being blasted down by Rune Api Chicken. Many goblins had already turned and fled, and the petrified lizards were no longer a threat. Although there was still no news from the other army, he was still very confident. After all, the leaders were the most loyal Nine Fingers and Broken Tooth, and they would definitely not turn and run away.

"Brother, what's the next step?" Pazzani put down his binoculars and asked excitedly.

"Stop, don't call me brother," Charles corrected, then looked into the distance of the forest. "Let the centaurs move out."

Following his command, Evita and Okore each led a group of centaurs toward the two white stone rings, and after a few maneuvers, they were teleported deep into the forest.

This time, the "Transport Captain" brought a large group of goblins, and Xia Er didn't want to let any of them go. Although the snake molt clothes could no longer be used after these goblins surrendered, could the petrified lizards be tamed? If he could catch a live petrified lizard, Xia Er wouldn't mind setting up a petrified lizard farm.

He had once thought that if he put the runeword Mind Bracelet on the petrified lizard and then fixed the rune mortar to the lizard's back, he might be able to use tactics such as "rapid advance and artillery fire", "fire one shot and move to another", and "small group advance artillery support".

"Of 100 petrified lizards, surely a few will survive," Xia Er said with some confidence.

"Sound—" Two soft sounds came from afar, the sound of a centaur firing its whistling arrow into the sky. "Looks like they're all in position. In that case, let's launch a full-scale attack."

As soon as he finished speaking, the Naga prince next to him shouted excitedly, "All-out attack! I said all-out attack!" A whistle arrow was shot into the sky, and then Red Eye threw off the rune-bearing chicken on his shoulder, drew his black sword and excitedly rushed out. Behind him, a large group of goblins waved their weapons and followed closely behind with their short limp legs.

"Let's go, let's go up and take a look too." Charles said to Pazzani beside him, holding a short sword in one hand and a crossbow in the other. Pazzani had completely shed his previous fear and looked eager to try. Three floating water spheres had somehow materialized around him, and he was holding an ice spear. "Brother, I'm ready."

"Don't call me, never mind." Charles shook his head, then turned and walked towards the forest.

The goblin team skillfully bypassed the group of petrified lizards in the center of the arena. The petrified lizards were either already dead on the spot, being chased and beaten by Cao Cao, or had already turned around and fled into the forest.

When Charles passed by, he had to instruct Cao Cao not to kill them all, but to tie up the ones still alive with ropes.

"No, green eggs are wrong. Lizards are dangerous; they'll bite green eggs." Cao Cao shook his head like a rattle.

"It's alright, I can tame them." After much persuasion, Xia finally convinced Cao Cao to leave the petrified lizards that hadn't died. This child had clearly awakened the primal killing instinct hidden within the troll race, and was prepared not to let a single petrified lizard go.

Bypassing the horde of petrified lizard corpses, he specifically instructed White Hair to lead his men to cut open the stomachs of the dead petrified lizards and scrape out the gastric juices. That stuff could undo the petrification effect. If any goblins were petrified but their bodies were still intact, they could be saved with the gastric juices. "Save one if you can, they are all my lovely subordinates."

…………

Information on the battlefield changes rapidly. Baldy was still full of confidence, waiting for the other side to be thrown into chaos, when two strange whistles came from a distance behind him.

"What kind of bird is that?" he wondered. Having lived in the forest for so many years, he had never heard such a call before—rapid, shrill, and piercing straight into the sky. "What new trick is this?"

He brought 100 petrified lizards this time. Even if he gave 20 to the other group of goblins, he would still have 80 left. Just thinking about the terrifying freezing effect he had seen before made the hairs on his back stand on end. "But with so many large lizards this time, I don't believe you can freeze them all at once."

Baldy confidently ordered the goblins to drive all the petrified lizards away, even specifically instructing them to spread the lizards out a bit. When his subordinates came to report that there was no freezing effect, he waved his arms excitedly, "I knew you guys didn't have that many strange things. How could a bunch of chased-away guys possibly get anything powerful?"

Once again, events unfolded in a way that defied his expectations, constantly pushing the boundaries of his understanding—

"What? A white giant is blocking the giant lizard's path?"

"Explosion? What explosion?"

"A rain of arrows! The centaurs have started shooting arrows?"

"The white giant is still alive? Many of the giant lizards have died?"

"The flying goblin was shot down? Or exploded?"

He stood there, stunned. The situation had forced him to stop sitting comfortably on the wooden stake, but he still managed to hold onto the feathered headdress. "Why is there still no news? What are the goblins on the other side doing?"

Baldy had no idea that at this moment, another group of goblins got into a fight over food, which led to a surprise attack by Nine Fingers and Broken Tooth, turning the situation into a one-sided chase.

"Commander, what do we do now? Should we just charge in?"

"Wait, let me think," Baldy hesitated for a moment, his mind racing as he tried to come up with the next tactic, but unfortunately, that was all the cleverness he had. "Don't rush, watch my moves."

At this point, one should rush straight in and fight the enemy, and as the military leader, one must act without hesitation.

The goblin's primitive fighting methods finally came to mind, so he held the feathered crown on his head with one hand, picked up the wooden club on the ground with the other, and shouted orders for all the goblins to follow him and charge forward.

Unfortunately, Baldy underestimated the number of feathered serpent goblins present. With over 1000 goblins, even a single sentence could change from "I'm going out of the cave to find food" to "I'm going to find shit outside the cave." When he led his men out, many goblins were still standing there, looking at each other in confusion, as if wondering what to do next.

However, they didn't have much time. Shouts came from the forest behind them, and the centaurs began to surround the large group of goblins.

Baldy waved his wooden club and ran for about twenty meters when he suddenly realized that there weren't many goblins around him, and the "gibberish" sounds were also wrong. Compared to when he was looking for food, when the surrounding forest was filled with goblin noises, now the goblin calls were only around him.

"What's going on?" He stopped and turned to look around, only to find a sparse number of goblins running after him. "Hmm? So few of them, and they haven't even charged?"

His first thought was, "These cavemen want to betray me."

Baldy had no idea that his bizarre actions had caused the entire Quetzalcoatl Kingdom's goblin ranks to become disorganized. He was still immersed in the fact that those cavemen were jealous of him and were planning to kill him so they could take over and become the commander of the army from the high priest.

Just as this group of goblins stood there blankly, blinking their tiny green eyes and waiting for Baldy's next instructions, a chorus of shouts came from the clearing outside the forest.

"Damn it, they're calling from the sound." Baldy immediately realized that the "chattering" sound didn't sound like wailing at all, but rather excited. He could even vaguely hear the words "capture Baldy alive."

"Run, or keep fighting?" He hesitated for a moment, but quickly made up his mind. His goblin instincts took precedence over his thinking. "Run, run all the way back to the stone tower, and tell the high priest how treacherous those cavemen are, that they want to kill me together."

So, just as he saw a familiar figure wielding a black longsword rushing towards him in the distance, his dead memories attacked his reason once more. Without thinking, Baldy dropped his wooden stick and turned to run away.

"I see it! I see it!" Red-eyed man shouted excitedly from behind. "It's the bald guy with feathers!"

He brandished his longsword, his eyes fixed on the front, shouting incessantly.

Hearing the shouts behind him, Baldy quickly abandoned holding onto the pheasant crest on his head, ripped it off, and tossed it aside. Now that he was escaping for his life, who cared whether he was the coolest goblin?

"Huh?" Without the conspicuous forest pheasant tail feather markings, Red Eyes couldn't immediately recognize Baldy from the fleeing goblins in front of him, but soon his gaze locked onto a figure running for his life.

"That guy dressed in those fancy clothes is Baldy. Chase after him!" Red Eyes shouted excitedly. Before the fight started, Chief Charles had specifically told him that the leader on the other side seemed interesting, and if he could catch him, he should try not to kill him. So as soon as Red Eyes started charging, he was thinking about capturing the military leader Baldy alive.

"Me? What am I wearing?" Baldy ran while looking down at his body. He had specially asked the high priest for this red, yellow and blue outfit to distinguish himself from ordinary goblins, so that he could be recognized by the goblins in the party at a glance, thus avoiding being ambushed from behind. He never expected that it would become an even more conspicuous mark.

He tore at his clothes with all his might, quickly taking them off. It was just that goblins didn't have much sewing skill, and soon these fancy clothes were thrown on the ground. Unfortunately, he kept moving as he took off his clothes, his whole body twisting and turning as he continued to escape.

By the time he flung his clothes out, he was stumbling and about to fall to the ground, but Baldy gritted his teeth and persevered. He used his hands and feet to try to steady himself, and suddenly looked up to continue running forward, only to have a dark thing block his way.

With a loud thud, Baldy slammed into the wooden post he had been sitting on. He felt dizzy and fell to his back on the ground, unconscious.

"Smack!" A shoe stepped on his face, leaving a black footprint. Red-eyed stood by the wooden stake, quickly looking around. "Running so fast? The enemy's rabbit."

After saying that, he glanced down at the unconscious bald man and said, "Just an ordinary goblin, trash."

After saying that, Red Eyes brandished his longsword and began searching for Baldy, who had escaped, in the forest.
