Forests Don't Support Idle Goblins
Chapter 42 The One-Eyed Man's Little Ambition [Please Read, Add to Favorites, and Recommend!]
"Five grouse and one and a half large deer."
One-Eyed counted the prey the goblins had handed over, and he felt that it might not be enough.
"What else?" He opened his only remaining eye and scanned the group of goblins in front of him.
All the goblins lowered their heads; they hadn't caught many animals this morning.
One-Eyed thought for a moment, then ordered a few goblins to dig a hole in the ground and bury a grouse in it.
Then he led the goblins, carrying their prey, toward a huge cave entrance.
These goblins were divided into four groups, with the largest group having 20 goblins, all of whom were chained to thick iron chains.
The chains effectively restricted the goblins' movements, forcing them to shuffle along behind the one-eyed goblin, one step at a time.
Over the years, the goblins on each chain have developed the same walking rhythm, moving in perfect unison.
They placed their prey at the entrance of the cave, then lined up in a semi-circle. One-Eyed walked to the entrance and called out into the cave.
A few seconds later, two giant monsters with light blue skin crawled out of the burrow.
"Your Majesties, this is today's harvest," the one-eyed man said respectfully.
"Okay, that's enough for lunch," said the troll, his face covered in ugly scars, drooling.
“No, Zul’jin, it’s not enough,” another troll retorted. “I’m never full.”
"You've eaten enough, Bwonsamdi." Zul'jin shoved the other aside, then glared at the goblins with his yellow eyes, pointing at a goblin standing somewhat crookedly in the group and asking, "What's wrong with him?"

"He got bumped while catching the deer, it's nothing," One-Eyed immediately said.
"Come here," Zuljin beckoned with his finger.
The goblin that was targeted stood still for a while, and Zul'jin snorted, so he had no choice but to leave the group.
Meanwhile, the goblins he was in followed in perfect unison, their chains rattling against the ground. Soon, the goblin reached the troll.
The troll stared at the slightly limping goblin in front of him, snorting, "Useless thing."
He reached out his giant hand and grabbed the goblin's body, then stepped on the chain and pulled hard, forcibly pulling the goblin out of the lock.
The goblin screamed, one of its legs twisting grotesquely, but its head was immediately grabbed by the troll's other hand. With a "plop," the troll ripped the goblin's head off, and blood gushed out, staining the weeds on the ground red.
"That's enough to eat now," Bonsandi chuckled beside him.
All the goblins stood silently in place, uttering no sound. The death of their kin did not move them; it was as if it were a matter of course.
Zul'jin tossed the goblin's corpse into a huge, foul-smelling iron pot, then grabbed two grouse and threw one to the troll next to him, "Hurry up and cook it."
Then they sat on the ground, plucked the feathers with their mouths, and ate the grouse raw, like chewing on a snack.
One-Eyed led the goblins to skillfully remove the fur and cut the prey into pieces, then threw them into a large pot to cook. The trolls ate casually, eating anything and not caring about the internal organs or the outer skin.
After the one-eyed demon reported that the food had been prepared and would be ready to eat soon, the two trolls chased away the goblins, who lay lazily on the ground, scratching the insects on their bodies.
One-Eyed led the goblins to wait under a few trees. They would wait until the trolls finished eating, then scavenge the remaining meat and broth from the bones.
No one saw a goblin emerge from the shadow of the cauldron, pouring a whole bottle of purple potion into it. Before he could even hold the bottle properly, it sank into the soup.
The goblin stared at the bubbling cauldron, reached out its hand, then withdrew it in disgust, and with a whoosh, disappeared into the shadows.
One-Eyed arrived at a large tree where a troll was tied up, as thin and weak as a bamboo pole.
"Eat up." One-Eyed handed him the grouse he had buried in front of him.
The troll took the grouse and wolfed it down, then looked at the one-eyed man with pleading eyes, "Hungry, hungry."
The one-eyed man ignored the troll and sat down under a tree. He pulled a plank about the length of a forearm from a tree hole and scratched a small vertical line on it with a stone. "Another day has passed."
The back of the wooden board is already covered with vertical stripes, while the front only has a few. "I hope to be able to carve the entire wooden board in the future."
This was his ambition, humble and insignificant, yet perfectly normal.
One-Eye estimated that he was probably the longest-living of this group of goblins. He tried everything to survive, eating grass roots and catching beetles, just to stay alive. He had carved several wooden boards and had witnessed the deaths of many goblins.
He had considered escaping before; he had been bound by chains, but after successfully gaining the troll's trust, he was released alone, and since then, One-Eye had been looking for an opportunity.
Other goblins also escaped, breaking their ankles and severing their calves in an attempt to break free of the chains, but to no avail. The next day, when One-Eye led the rest of the goblins on a hunt, they would find their corpses, left to be devoured by wild beasts.
A single goblin cannot survive in the forest.
One-Eye stuffed the planks back into the tree hole. He wouldn't let any goblins damage them; they were the only things he cherished. Only by touching the vertical lines on the planks could One-Eye feel alive.
He worked hard, directing goblins on hunts, and didn't care if he angered a troll by not catching many prey and ended up losing an eye.
It's better to be alive than to lie in a pot and be cooked.
Five more goblins escaped yesterday. These five goblins were chained together. One-Eye hoped they would survive, even though the chances were slim. After all, he had witnessed too much death and buried too many gnawed corpses.
He looked at the numb goblins around him and silently lay down.
"We need to rest quickly, we still need to grab bones later, and we're going hunting again this afternoon."
…………
Before the food in the pot was even cooked, Zurjin eagerly grabbed a piece of venison and began to chew it.
Another troll also scrambled to fish a leg out of the cauldron.
The two sat on the ground, eating with gusto.
"It's getting cold," Zulkin said.
"Mmm," Bumsandy mumbled, focusing on tearing at the leg meat in his hand.
"The goblins are bringing back fewer and fewer prey each time."
"Uh-huh."
We need to think of a solution.
"Uh-huh."
Zuljin picked up a piece of wood and smashed it at his companion, saying, "Listen to me."
Bwonsamdi also grabbed a wooden stick to fight back. The two trolls fought back and forth for a while, then sat back down in front of the pot to continue eating. Their wounds had healed quickly.
"We need to drive the goblins south," Zul'jin said.
Bumsandi didn't even look up, continuing to chew his meat. "There's a clattering forest to the south."
"We can just go through the woods; it won't affect us anyway."
What's to the south?
"There are new goblins, lots of them, and humans too."
"Humans taste better than goblins."
Zuljin reached into the pot for more meat, but pulled out a glass bottle instead. "What's this?"
He shoved the bottle into his mouth and bit down, making a snapping sound as it cut his oral cavity.
"These stupid goblins can even mess up their prey. I'll eat another one this afternoon."
After saying that, he threw the broken bottle away.
