Forests Don't Support Idle Goblins
Chapter 61 Two Reliefs [Please read, add to your favorites, and recommend!]
"That's one of the reasons I asked you to come here," Charles said to Agatha, slapping the wall.
The room where the Mind Flayer had placed the box had two large reliefs on each of the two walls. The reliefs were several meters long and looked very old. Although some parts were damaged, they were still well preserved overall.
Agatha stood in the middle of the stone chamber, not saying a word, but carefully observing one of the paintings.
The relief is divided into two parts: the bottom part is a lush forest with birds carved in the middle, and the upper part is a city, a city sitting above the clouds.
"I've never heard of a city floating in the sky," Agatha said seriously. Then she leaned closer to examine it and found that the relief was colorless, or perhaps the paint had all fallen off.
"Light spell." She stretched out her slender fingers and summoned a small, glowing orb beside her.
Agatha stroked the relief, examining every detail carefully. After a few minutes, she turned to Charles and said, "It's impossible to determine its authenticity for now; perhaps it's just an artistic expression."
"Tell me," Sharmo stroked his chin, slowly offering his idea, "could this be the Tower of Babel you mentioned before?"
"I don't think so. What's carved on this is a city. If this city really existed, the Tower of Babel might have been one of its structures." Agatha's pale fingertips traced the cloud relief, a hint of longing flashing across her face. "However, perhaps this is just a fantasy of our ancestors, a fantasy of building a city in the sky."
"Moreover, judging from the content of the relief, this city floats above the forest, but no one has seen it for thousands of years." She withdrew her hand and looked at the lower half of the relief. "It's possible that it never existed, or it's possible that it fell long ago and was covered by the trees of the Nightmare Forest."
"Alright, let's put this aside for now and look at the relief over there," Charles said.
The relief directly opposite is even more detailed. The lower half depicts many bodies lying on the ground, including humans, dwarves, elves, and various humanoid creatures. The upper middle part of the relief is the main body, depicting four things: behind a pool of liquid that is almost the entire length of the relief and is depicted as rolling, several swords float, and behind the swords are birds. These birds are so numerous that they block out the sky, echoing the pool of liquid in composition. Finally, on the other side of the birds, a huge crawling skeleton is carved.
"This sculpture is quite intriguing," Agatha said, examining the entire piece. "It doesn't match anything I've learned."
She used the Light spell again to get closer and examine it, while offering her opinion: "What is engraved here should be four powerful beings who can kill all kinds of creatures at will, but I don't know what these four things are. They don't seem to be elemental ancient gods, nor do they look like the seven great demon lords."
"Could it be a sealed evil god?" Charles said.
"I don't think so. Evil gods may be powerful, but they wouldn't be portrayed as that." Agatha shook her head, disagreeing with the other person's point of view.
"I do have a bold idea," Charles said cautiously, choosing his words carefully. "They are the Four Gods."
Upon hearing this, Agatha's eyes widened in disbelief. "How could they be the Four Gods? They don't look like them at all!"
"This is the only one that matches the number four," Charles said with a smile.
"Light and justice, battle and glory, earth and life, night and fate, the four gods and what is engraved on the relief are completely different, aren't they?" Agatha waved her hand, unable to accept Charles's point of view.
"Perhaps their identities have changed over the long course of history," Charles added after a moment's thought.
"No, that's impossible. There's no record of evil becoming sacred in history," Agatha disagreed.
"Agatha Christie, history is written by the victors."
"No, Charles, you don't know what this really means. It not only overturns thousands of years of historical understanding, but also overturns people's sacred beliefs. Many people are taught from birth that the four gods are sacred, but this relief depicts them as demons who indiscriminately kill innocent people. If the people of the four major churches find out, let alone if you are a goblin, even if you are a nobleman, they will rush up and tie you to the stake and burn you to ashes along with this relief," Agatha said seriously.
"Alright, we'll talk about this later. I'm sure the answer to the mystery lies in the forest." Charles ended the argument, then pointed to the other side of the passage and said, "There's a large room there with many interesting things. Let me show you."
The two passed through the passage and arrived at a huge stone chamber with an area of more than 700 square meters. Two corners of the stone chamber had been buried in soil, and the entire space was filled with a large number of parts and materials of different sizes and materials.
"I haven't sent anyone to clean this place yet. I'm afraid they'll break things because they're clumsy." Charles stood next to a stone structure and reached out to wipe away the thick layer of dust on it.
"Look, there are strange patterns engraved on these," he said, pointing to a palm-sized image.
Agatha frowned, squatted down, and also became very interested in the pattern.
"I've never seen this pattern before; it looks a bit like some kind of foreign script," Agatha said softly, stroking the pattern.
"I would like to ask you to come and help me check what they are used for from time to time," Charles said sincerely.
"I also have to make potions, run the shop, and conduct pharmaceutical experiments every day," Agatha said after a moment's thought, expressing her concerns.
"You can teach my men how to prepare herbs, and I'll have Little Claw brew the potion for you," Charles said.
"But I'll need to spend more time on the journey," Agatha said, frowning.
She stroked the pattern, remained silent for a few seconds, and finally nodded, saying, "Okay, I'll come often."
She simply couldn't let go of these historical items.
"Alright, I won't bother you any longer." Charles waved his hand, preparing to leave.
"Wait a minute," Agatha called out to him, her expression serious.
"Hmm?" Charles looked at the other person's face with some wariness. The bookworm finally realized that I hadn't mentioned the future profit sharing of "Drink-It-All" to her.
Agatha pulled a book from her pocket and started flipping through it. Charles felt like he had seen the book before.
"Here," Agatha turned the page to the fold, then looked up at Charles, "Did Countess Sophia really elope with a bard?"
"Sophia?" Charles paused for a moment, then said, "I know who you're talking about. Yes, she eloped with that man, but she also gave him a good beating; he had almost no ribs intact."
"Why?" Agatha asked, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
"Because that morning, she discovered that the number of people eloping was a bit off; three ladies had arrived at the same time. That foolish bard looked down on these young women in the big house. They were just yearning for free love; they weren't stupid."
"And, Baron..." Agatha turned the page again, ready to continue her inquiry.
"I have other things to do, you go ahead with your research." Charles fled in a panic.
