Forests Don't Support Idle Goblins
Chapter 64 The Problems Facing the Fortress
"There certainly won't be enough to eat," Charles nodded.
With the population increasing and the lack of organized hunting due to the recent intensive cleaning efforts, their stored jerky is almost gone.
"Make the big bug at the door into jerky." White Hair brandished a cleaver and made a few chopping motions.
"The Mind-Stealing Giant Worm?" Charles's eyes widened. That thing was indeed still in the room of the former Mind-Eating Monster and hadn't been moved. There was no way around it; it was just too big. But the thought of eating it made Charles shudder. He recalled the scene of dozens of Mind-Eating Monsters frantically sucking the Mind-Stealing Giant Worm from its body that day.
"I'd rather not." He shook his head and rejected the white-haired man's suggestion.
"Meat, lots of meat," the white-haired man insisted.
Charles thought for a moment, stared at the other person seriously, and gestured with his hands: "Eating that will turn you into a mind flayer, with four whiskers growing from your mouth, your head becoming very large, and you will lose your hair."
White Hair tilted her head and thought for a few seconds, then her whole body trembled. She touched her now-long hair, shook her head and said, "I won't eat it, it's too ugly."
"Don't worry, I still have a use for that big bug," Charles said.
White Hair nodded, then threw a few pieces of meat into a wicker basket, saying as he did so, "Bad meat, will make you bald."
"What kind of meat is this?" Ciel asked curiously.
"Rat meat."
"Those dead skull rats?" Charles asked in surprise.
White Fur grunted in agreement and then tossed a few more "rat cakes" into the basket.
"You really are thrifty and good at managing a household," Charles muttered softly, then gently comforted the white-haired man, "I'll organize a hunt soon. Our hunting grounds are big, so we can quickly stock up on food."
"These are all gone." The white-haired man took out two more bags.
Ciel opened one of them and found that there was only a small handful of spices left inside; he figured it would be gone after they were eaten today.
During this time, White Hair cooked for the goblins, only putting a little bit in each pot for dinner. The goblins also liked the taste of dinner more. One-Eyed even said that if other goblin tribes had eaten these things, they would definitely unite to tie up their leader, bring him to the fortress gate, and ask Sharl to nod his head and allow them to join.
While this may sound exaggerated, Sharl knew that spices were a devastating blow to goblins who could only eat a stew of frogs and insects for every meal.
"Okay, I'll try to get a few more bags." Charles handed the bags to the white-haired man.
Now that the tribe has a stable place to live, it needs more supplies, including stored food and dried meat, shells of grenade fruits, spices, salt and sugar, fur clothing and some small furniture. All of these need to be purchased.
Should we find a way to expand Little John's trade route? Charles shook his head. It would be difficult for him to transport so many goods by himself alone. Charles was also worried about developing other adventurers. This would be no different from distributing fortress route maps made by Mind Flayers. Moreover, the route maps would have "Grand opening special offers, limited ears, first come first served" and "Gold coins and beast cores as grand prizes, waiting for you to claim."
"We'll have to think of another way." After instructing the white-haired man to cook a good meal, Ciel turned and left. There weren't many red bull mushrooms left, so he had to go ask the buck-toothed man.
"I was led by your fragrance to a captivating island, an island of crosses, full of crosses..."
"What the hell is this 'fork'?" Charles kicked the buck-toothed guy away. This guy doesn't know all the words yet, and he can only use "fork" to replace words he doesn't know. So Charles often hears him say "your fork", "my fork", "fork in the sky", "the fruit of fork".
"Leader, it's you, my leader." The buck-toothed man turned around and saw it was Ciel, and immediately started again.
"Speak goblin," Charles asked through gritted teeth. "How's Red Bull?"
"Boss, the situation is so-so." The buck-toothed man spoke normally now.
He showed Charles the cedar wood placed in the stone chamber and the red bull mushrooms cultivated on it.
This stone chamber was originally the room of the Mind Flayer Giant Insect. It wasn't very big. Charles originally wanted to build the Red Bull breeding farm in the large stone chamber of more than 700 square meters where strange materials were stored, but this could only begin after Agatha had made some research results.
Several felled cedar trees now lie here, with a few lonely clusters of yellow red bull mushrooms on them. The repeated moving and the goblin's crude cultivation techniques have resulted in the red bull mushrooms growing poorly. Charles can only pat the buck-toothed man on the shoulder and tell him to be more attentive and stop staring at the poetry collection all day long with endless "X" marks.
"Don't worry, Chief, you're like that little X in the sky..." the buck-toothed man said solemnly.
Charles kicked him again and then quickly left. This kid is hopeless.
"We need to buy supplies, but we also need to sell things. Right now, it seems there's nothing else to sell besides the equipment. We can't give the beast cores to Little John for the time being, and we'll have to use the herbs ourselves for now." Charles continued to plan the trade route. Although he had quite a few gold coins, he wasn't sure whether he should change the current cooperation model and give the gold coins directly to Little John to buy things on his behalf.
Moreover, the adventurer doesn't have much equipment left behind, and it won't sell many times. He needs to develop a new product to replace it as soon as possible.
"Little Paws." Charles arrived at the stone chamber with the relief carvings with a big smile.
In the center of the stone chamber was a large cauldron bubbling away, and in the corner were several large packages filled with herbs. Several goblins were taking herbs out of the packages and grinding them in a mortar and pestle.
The crawling claw was gripping a stirring rod and spinning it back and forth at such a speed that it was almost a double image.
"Take a break, I have something to ask you," Charles said.
The little paws stopped stirring, jumped onto the wooden box next to it, then climbed into the wooden bowl, comfortably stretching out their five fingers in the magic potion.
Charles waved his hand, and a Furu floated over and landed between them.
"How's it going? How many pots of medicine can you make in a day?" Charles asked with a smile.
"No more than six pots," Little Claw said.
They were all pulled into Furu's telepathic connection, which was also a further development of Furu's abilities by Shir, and Little Claw finally no longer had to frantically scribble words on the ground.
"This amount is still a bit small, can you increase it?" Charles had a shrewd businessman's smile on his face.
"That's quite a lot, just one medicine pot. Those goblins are still quite inexperienced, and they made a few mistakes with the medicine," Little Paw complained.
"Yes, yes, I will improve. How about we categorize the medicines and add a few more medicine pots?" Charles asked.
"I'm looking for my master," Little Paw said, sounding somewhat reluctant.
"Don't worry, your master is Spencer. I'll definitely keep an eye out for you. I'll even use my connections to ask human adventurers for you." Charles nodded earnestly in agreement.
"Could you have more magic potions?" Little Paw asked tentatively.
"No problem, I'll keep drinking it for 24 hours a day, one bottle in the morning and two bottles at night," Charles immediately agreed.
"Hmm..." Little Claw hesitated.
"How about two bottles in the morning and one bottle at night?" Charles immediately changed his mind.
"Okay, that's fine." Little Claw clenched her fist, only extending her middle finger, then bent it a few times, as if nodding in agreement.
