Forests Don't Support Idle Goblins

Chapter 7 Fire and the Goblin

Day two.

Blackie leaned cross-legged against the cave wall, idly combing the bristles on his arms while glancing sideways at the four foreign goblins standing at the cave entrance.

His dozen or so men were cleaning a half-grown wild boar, chopping off its head, removing its hair, and cutting it into pieces.

As a bear goblin, he hadn't been eating well these past few days. His damned underlings all slacked off as soon as he wasn't looking, and the prey they brought back each day was far from enough for him to eat.

But I'm sure I'll have a full meal today.

Blackie scratched his arm, his fingers covered in black mud, and picked up a small insect from among the bristles. He crushed it between two fingers and then put it in his mouth.

The arm movement pulled at his chest, and he couldn't help but grin and growl. The goblin, who was cooking, moved even faster.

The pain infuriated Hei Da. Although the three huge wounds on his chest had scabbed over, he could still feel his muscles being torn apart with every breath.

A few days ago, while leading his men on a hunt, he encountered a Deinonychus.

The monster, covered in black mist, burst out of the grass and charged straight at him.

Originally, Hei Da was not afraid of wild beasts like bears at all. Although an adult bear was a head taller than him when standing up, Hei Da could often drive the bear away with his large hammer, which was as thick as a small tree.

But that day, the Deinonychus's eyes flashed red, and Blackie immediately fell into a daze.

Fortunately, he regained consciousness soon after, but the dinosaur also swung its giant paw at him, and five claws like black daggers instantly tore open the black bear's chest.

Ignoring his injuries, Blackie roared and swung his hammer. The two fought back and forth, exchanging blows with each other, their roars echoing through the forest.

The battle ended quickly. The wounded Deinonychus ran into the bushes. As a magical beast, it still retained its animalistic hunting instincts; if it couldn't win, it would run away.

Hei Da almost lost his balance. He used the hammer to support himself and looked around, but there was no sign of his men anywhere.

Covered in wounds, Hei Da struggled back to the cave. The first thing he did was to kill a goblin in front of everyone, regardless of whether he was the one who led the escape, just to establish his authority.

Afterwards, thanks to the herbs gathered by his subordinates and the healing abilities bestowed by the evil god, the wounds have scabbed over and begun to heal in the past few days.

That damned Deinonychus! Once I recover, Blackie swears he'll kill it, chop off its head, and stick it on the edge of the hunting ground.

With a few splashes, the goblin threw the chopped wild boar meat chunks, along with the blood and internal organs, into a large pot nearly half a person's height. As the water churned, a fishy, foul smell filled the air.

Hei Da sniffed greedily; he hadn't smelled the aroma of cooked meat for days. He'd been eating mostly soupy dishes lately, which weren't filling at all.

Today was the same; a dozen goblins went out and brought back only insects and bird eggs—just a tiny bit, not enough for anyone to eat.

Fortunately, a goblin brought meat today, and Blackie picked up a small worm, crushed it, and smeared it into his mouth.

Just now, these four goblins carried a wild boar to their burrow with thick tree branches, saying they wanted to join them, but Blackie didn't agree immediately.

He was also observing the other person, and he felt that the other person looked strange.

Although they were all green-skinned dwarfs, they didn't look like goblins when they stood there, and they didn't have that stinky goblin smell on them.

They looked too clean, like those humans who had been killed by themselves.

Moreover, their leader was a bald dwarf. Aren't goblin tribes usually led by the one with the biggest fist?

Blackie looked at the four little ones standing quietly at the entrance of the cave and decided to leave them behind after he had eaten his fill.

But the dwarf had to be killed. Ever since he was injured, his men had started to become unruly. Killing one of them would scare them, and they would work harder to gather food tomorrow.

Moreover, killing him would deter the three invading goblins, and killing the shortest one wouldn't have a significant impact on the tribe's strength.

The female goblin was also short, but the female goblin was kept to have offspring.

Hei Da looked at the smiling bald dwarf in the distance and chuckled to himself. If the other man knew that he was going to beat him to death after he was full, would he still be able to laugh? He would definitely be begging for mercy, crying and screaming.

A few hammer blows and they'd be turned into mincemeat. At that point, all the goblins would huddle in the corner of their burrow, trembling like chickens.

This game is really fun.

With a "gurgle," Blackie rubbed his stomach, hunger making him a little irritable.

"Is it not ready yet?" He got up and walked to the big pot, his two-meter height almost touching the top of the cave.

The goblins meekly indicated that they had just started cooking and the meat was not yet cooked.

Hei Da impatiently shooed his men away, preparing to fill his stomach directly; even half-cooked food was edible.

He reached out and grabbed a pig's leg, about to put it in his mouth, when he suddenly remembered something. He glanced at the four goblins at the cave entrance; they were still standing quietly.

"You, come here." The big black man pointed at the bald, short man, beckoning him to the pot. "Have a bite."

The bald, short man grabbed a piece of meat, took a small bite, and then stood quietly to the side.

A few minutes later, he showed no abnormalities.

"Alright, get out of here." Blackie chased the goblin away and sat down by the cauldron to start eating heartily.

Chunks of meat, offal, and broth were torn apart, chewed, and stuffed into the stomach in an instant.

After eating his fill, he wiped his mouth, returned to his previous spot, leaned against the cave wall, and watched his men jostling and pushing for the leftovers.

He couldn't finish a half-grown wild boar, leaving behind a lot of meat and soup. Ignoring his companions' attempts to pull him away, the goblins reached out, grabbed a piece, and immediately stuffed it into their mouths, desperately trying to eat another bite of meat.

But as soon as he managed to grab a spot, he was pulled back by his legs, and his position was taken by other goblins.

A dozen or so goblins rolled back and forth like wheels, each wanting to have a bite more, even if it was just soup.

Blackie, with his teeth clenched, watched his men running amok like they were watching a monkey show. This was his usual after-meal activity, both entertaining and stimulating. He would also observe and search for the most ferocious goblins vying for food, those being his targets to drive away or kill.

After a while, many goblins lay on the ground, the cauldron licked clean by them, and it tilted to one side.

They hummed and rubbed their bellies, too lazy to move an inch.

Blackie patted his belly contentedly; now it was time to deal with the four goblins.

After getting up, a wave of dizziness made him unsteady on his feet. He quickly grabbed the cave wall to steady himself. Then he noticed that the cave wall was slowly flowing downwards, like water.

Meanwhile, many tree roots sprouted from the cave walls, and red flowers quickly bloomed on the roots.

After fluttering a few times, the flower flew away from the tree roots and transformed into a red and orange butterfly, circling around Blackie.

Blackie raised his hand to shoo away the butterfly, then shook his head and looked at the four goblins.

But there were no goblins left; only four green foxes were circling around the cave entrance.

Blackie roared angrily, staggered, and then saw four foxes leaping and running toward a group of colorful mushrooms.

The mushrooms grew rapidly, but once they reached a certain size, they suddenly shrank back, turning into small, yellowish stones.

These small stones rolled back and forth on the ground, and as they rolled, they stood up, revealing themselves to be human adventurers less than half a meter tall.

Blackie grinned broadly, confident that he could knock these adventurers down to the ground with a single blow.

But his smile vanished immediately as the four foxes pushed and shoved a large black chicken radiating colorful light towards them.

No, it's not a black chicken, it's a deinonychus.

Black Chicken stood up and transformed into a Devilclaw Bear, startling Blackie into frantically searching for his hammer. But the Devilclaw Bear gave him no time and rolled straight toward him.

Blackie roared repeatedly and kicked the Devilclaw Bear away. Then he noticed that the Devilclaw Bear split into several smaller Devilclaw Bears after landing.

He rushed into the bear pack, kicking and punching, sending the baby dinosaur flying.

But these little dinosaur cubs rolled over again, fearless of death.

Suddenly he felt a pain in his waist as a bear claw stretched to two meters long and pierced his lower back.

With a roar, Blackie shattered a bear claw with a punch, but the broken claw transformed into tiny, winged dinosaurs that flew around.

They landed on the ground and immediately turned into a pool of black water. Long-handled hammers emerged from the black water and swayed like grass in front of Blackie.

Hei Da recognized those as his hammers, but these hammers were white, yellow, and all sorts of colors. He reached out and pulled, and the hammers seemed to deflate, shrinking into a line and finally disappearing.

As Blackie kept pulling, the hammer grass kept deflating, disappearing, and then inflating again to stand upright.

Gradually, Hei Da felt that half of his body was numb, and he even lost the strength to lift his hand.

At the same time, waves of dizziness washed over me, and the hammer grass in front of me gradually became blurry.

He staggered toward a golden hammer grass, drool involuntarily dripping from the corner of his mouth, then his legs gave way and he collapsed to the ground.

Golden hammer grass swayed in front of him, and Blackie slowly crawled towards it.

The swaying hammer grass quickly inflated again, turning into a green fox.

Blackie reached out to grab the fox, but the fox jumped away and dodged, then danced with its tail in front of him.

Hei Da lowered his hands helplessly, breathing heavily, his saliva forming a colorful river on the ground.

A few minutes later, he stopped moving.

he died.

As the goblin panel slowly faded and disappeared, Sharl finally let out a breath.

Early this morning, he led his men hunting in the forest, and after waiting for a long time, they finally managed to catch a wild boar.

After eating their fill beforehand, they carried the wild boar on a thick tree branch to find the goblin tribe.

According to Scarface's previous account, his leader was seriously injured, and Charles was certain that he hadn't been eating anything good these past few days.

As for me, I may not understand goblins, but I do understand them. These little green creatures will definitely slack off whenever they can without a leader watching over them.

As Shire had predicted, as soon as he expressed his willingness to join them, the bear goblin ordered his men to cook meat.

But Charles didn't expect the other party to be so cunning. Even though he was starving, he still had the sense to let him test the poison first.

However, even the most cunning fox can't outsmart a good hunter. The bear goblin never expected that Shire would stuff hallucinogenic mushrooms into the body of the dead wild boar.

Goblins cook their prey and never discard the entrails.

So Ciel only tasted a small bite of the meat and was basically unaffected by the hallucinogenic mushrooms.

But the goblin and his minions were different; they even licked the pot clean.

Previously, every time the white-haired man collected mushrooms, Shire would carefully distinguish them and also catch a few mice to conduct experiments.

This was originally just a life-saving measure for Charles, but a few days later he discovered that the forest was truly a treasure trove.

He not only discovered several types of mushrooms that could make mice kick their legs after just one bite, but also several types of mushrooms that would make mice run around and roll on the spot after eating them.

After confirming that the rats wouldn't die after eating these types of mushrooms, Shire summoned Red Eyes.

Ten minutes later, Red Eyes was shouting and jumping around several big trees, and even bumped into the tree trunks several times. Xia Er and White Hair Broken Tooth watched his performance the whole time, except for a handful of melon seeds.

Today, the bear goblin reacted the most, constantly fighting against thin air, killing two unfortunate minions and even kicking the pot away.

His men were fighting fiercely, exchanging punches and kicks, and even when they were knocked down, they would bite the calf next to them.

However, they didn't eat much and scattered after their leader charged over.

Finally, Shire killed the bear goblin with a thick branch he used to carry the wild boar.

The branch was as thick as a human forearm, and one end had been sharpened and coated with the venom of a red-ringed snake.

The reason he didn't use a spear to carry the wild boar was because tree branches wouldn't alert the boar, and for safety, he also brought two thick tree branches.

The bear goblin broke a tree branch after being stabbed, and was also poisoned by the snake venom, eventually dying from the poison.

Charles knew this was a huge gamble. It was possible that the other party would accept the wild boar but refuse to join them and drive him away, or they might kill him and his men as soon as they met and boil them together.

But he knew that everything carries risks, and you can only try to minimize those risks.

Xiaer picked up another thick branch from the ground, went to the goblin's corpse, and plunged it into its back with a thud. The goblin didn't move and was clearly dead.

"From today onwards, I am the new leader." Sharl stepped on the back of the bear goblin and looked at the listless goblins beside him.

"The green egg is the new leader."

"The green egg is the new leader."

Several of Red Eyes's men chimed in.

"Damn it, call me handsome," Charles corrected.

"No, you are not the leader, I am the leader." One of the staggering goblins got up, grabbed a wooden stick, and charged at Shire.

He yelled, his eyes filled with contempt and madness. What ability did a bald dwarf have to be a leader?

Charles pulled up a branch, thrust it forward, and the goblin slipped it through his fingers with a soft "plop."

Then, Sharl pulled out the tip of a branch, stepped forward, stomped on the goblin's head, and plunged it downwards, piercing straight through the goblin's neck.

The goblin, which had been roaring and howling, suddenly made two gurgling sounds, twitched a few times, and went still.

"I am the new leader."

Charles gripped the branch tightly, stared at the remaining goblins, and spoke slowly and deliberately.

"The green egg is the new leader."

"The green egg is the new leader."

The remaining goblins looked around a few times, and one of the smaller ones crawled directly to Shire, kneeling down to touch his ankle.

With this one leading the way, the remaining goblins followed suit.
