My Post-Apocalyptic Territory

Chapter 6: Building a Shelter?

When he came out, he was alone with a puppet, but when he returned, he was followed by several survivors.

These people were carrying large sacks of grain, which were the grains they had found in the cold storage and other parts of the hotel. As a shelter that originally housed thousands of survivors, this amount of grain was quite small. Tang Yu also knew that most of the grain had been destroyed in the demonic tide.

Tang Yu naturally accepted the grain. He had originally thought that some survivors would be envious of the grain, since they were the ones who first discovered the grain in the cold storage. In reality, however, he was overthinking it.

These grains were originally unclaimed, just like people going to pick fruit in the wild. Although there is indeed a saying of first come, first served, not to mention that if Tang Yu hadn't come, the bodies of these survivors would have been cold long ago. Even if he really did forcibly take them, probably no one would dare to say anything.

This is no longer the time when the apocalypse first broke out. Anyone who still thinks they can use worldly rules and morality to restrain the strong is naive; they probably wouldn't be alive now. What can restrain the strong is either someone even stronger, or the strong's own bottom line.

even so.

Tang Yu still gave these survivors some grain as payment for carrying it, which immediately boosted their morale.

He couldn't help but sigh, "That's the advantage of having someone to do things for you."

While Number One is strong, he isn't very useful in transporting food. After all, the food isn't packed into boxes but rather scattered in small portions. No matter how strong Number One is, he can't carry much at once. On the other hand, when the survivors work together and use some tools, their efficiency increases dramatically.

As they walked and talked, Tang Yu quickly gained an understanding of these people.

These people were actually similar to him; they were survivors who had been lucky enough to survive the destruction of the shelter by the demonic tide. The leader among them was a middle-aged man named Chen Haiping, who was an Awakened. Tang Yu then inquired about the destruction of the shelter from the side.

All Tang Yu knew was that the sanctuary had been destroyed by the demonic tide, but he had no idea what exactly happened. Chen Haiping, being an Awakened One, certainly knew more. For the sake of the future development of the territory, Tang Yu felt he needed to learn more.

Chen Haiping didn't think that much about it.

In his mind, Tang Yu and the other two were highly skilled experts from other places, and since they had saved them, he would naturally answer all their questions.

He just smiled bitterly, "There used to be a shelter here, but it was breached by the demonic tide two days ago. The survivors were almost wiped out. Apart from a few of us, there probably aren't many left."

"A demonic tide? That's terrifying, but such a large shelter, even if it can't withstand the demonic tide, should at least be able to retreat, right?"

Chen Haiping's expression grew even more bitter. "Retreat? Do you know how long the entire shelter's defenses held out against the demonic tide?"

"Three minutes." He held up three fingers. "Only three minutes! Forget about retreating, some survivors didn't even know what was happening before they were killed by the sudden onslaught of demonic beasts."

Tang Yu looked surprised.

This is no charade. I originally thought the shelter was destroyed after a fierce battle, but now it seems that's not the case at all!

"I was originally a squad leader in the shelter. When the demonic tide occurred, I was resting in my quarters. When I heard the alarm, I immediately rushed to the front line. But before I even got there, I saw the demonic beasts surging into the shelter in droves."

Chen Haiping recalled and continued, "The shelter's defenses were actually quite strong. Even though it was originally just a small shelter, our strongest Awakener was at the third level of Awakening, and he was also lucky enough to awaken a special ability. Such strength would be considered top-notch even in a large shelter, and he was even more famous in our shelter and the surrounding small shelters."

"With the machine guns, explosive charges, and other weapons set up on the defensive line, even if our defensive line couldn't withstand that demonic tide, it certainly wouldn't be breached in one fell swoop." Chen Haiping paused, a rare look of anger appearing on his face. "The reason for this is that the original director of the shelter, Wang Tai, realized things were going badly and abandoned the shelter, running away directly."

"Not only that, Wang Tai's escape took away his loyal subordinates on the defensive line, and he also took away a lot of guns and ammunition. These guns and ammunition were originally weapons and equipment that the Lin Dong military had deployed to support our small shelters, but most of them were taken away by that Wang guy. As a result, when the demonic beasts attacked, the entire defensive line was full of loopholes and was breached by the demonic beasts in one go."

"Even the strongest Awakened One died from the ambush of the demonized beast. I was lucky to escape, but in the entire shelter, apart from Wang Tai and his group, there are probably only a few of us left who survived by sheer luck."

Selfishness may be human nature, and it becomes even more pronounced in the end times.

Before arriving at the shelter, Tang Yu was with a group of several hundred survivors. However, when the group arrived at the shelter, out of the hundreds who set out, fewer than one hundred survivors made it to the shelter alive.

Many died in the mouths of demonic beasts, but even more died, directly or indirectly, at the hands of humans themselves.

He had no right to say anything. He often remained indifferent to these things, which is why he has survived to this day.

He has no right to blame Wang Tai. Perhaps Wang Tai's choice in the face of a sanctuary on the verge of collapse cannot be called wrong. However, for those who were abandoned, resentment was inevitable.

As one of the abandoned, Tang Yu was somewhat angry, but not as angry as one might imagine.

Perhaps it was because he survived and activated the system, or perhaps it was because anger is only needed by the weak, and he wanted to take control of his own destiny.

After speaking out in one breath, Chen Haiping felt much better, and he stopped thinking about the past. His current concern was how to survive.

After moving the food once, he and Tang Yu made several more trips, quickly moving all the food from the hotel to the villa area.

However, after several trips, Chen Haiping felt that something was amiss.

He initially thought that Tang Yu and his companion were powerful individuals from a large shelter who were just passing through and would likely leave soon. However, through their conversation, he gradually realized that they had no intention of leaving. This clean-dressed young man was planning to establish a shelter here.

Establish a shelter?

At first, he thought the other party was just joking. However, after they finished moving the grain, the other party hired them to move some waste stones and timber. Although Chen Haiping couldn't figure out what they were doing, he could sense that these two experts seemed to be serious.

He just said that a shelter here was destroyed by the demonic tide, but...

It seems he wasted his breath talking!
