Because the alley where Li Jiaxin's grandmother lives is really too narrow.

Bai Li had no choice but to park the car in a marked parking space on the side of the road.

"Jiaxin, get off the bus."

He got out of the car and picked up several boxes of gifts from the back seat.

"I'll take two boxes."

Just as Li Jiaxin reached out to help, Bai Li turned aside to avoid her.

"What kind of logic is it to expect a wife to bring gifts when she visits her parents' home?"

Bai Li freed his left hand and took her small hand in his:

"Let's go see Grandma."

Li Jiaxin smiled sweetly, her eyes curving into beautiful crescent moons.

She gripped Bai Li's large hand with her fingers.

"Let's go~" she said, her voice rising at the end, light and cheerful.

The two held hands and walked side by side into the alley.

Reaching the end, I pushed open the red-lacquered wooden door.

Just like the first time I came, the yard was filled with colorful underwear.

Four elderly women were playing mahjong at a folding table.

Hearing the noise at the gate, four heads turned around.

Upon closer inspection, it was Li Jiaxin, an elderly woman sitting near the toilet, her lips barely touching the ground as if she was about to speak.

She used to boss this wild girl around who had no parents to discipline her.

In the past, when Li Jiaxin couldn't even get enough to eat, this old lady liked to order her around emptying the chamber pot and throwing away the trash.

When I saw Li Jiaxin dressed like this today, my first instinct was to complain.

Before she could even finish speaking, the withered old woman sitting opposite her kicked her.

"Shut up, shut up!"

The withered old woman lowered her voice and gestured towards Bai Li with her lip:

"See that tall young man? Don't mess with him."

This withered old woman is the landlord's mother in the tenement.

The old lady was confused and looked indignant.

"What's wrong? This brat's all grown up, can't I even say a few words to her anymore?"

"You weren't at the park to do square dancing last time, so we didn't run into that." The landlady spat into her palm and vigorously rubbed the cards together.

"I just cursed at that little girl a couple of times..." she said, her voice low and filled with fear, "and that young man wanted to make a paper doll to poke me!"

"And sure enough, my back and waist ached for several days afterward!"

The older generation is most superstitious about these supernatural things.

Upon hearing this, the old lady's hand trembled, and the red wine fell onto the table.

"Damn it, is this young man really that arrogant?"

The landlady nodded, her eyes darting around:

It's best to avoid provoking him.

The old lady sighed, watching Li Jiaxin's retreating figure with considerable regret.

"It seems we won't be able to order this wild girl around anymore."

She picked up the cards that had fallen on the table, feeling very indignant:

"But that young man stabbed you in the back, can you really swallow that insult?"

The landlady picked up a card, rubbed her thumb on the surface, her old skin creased up, and forced out a lewd smile.

"Don't worry, I have my own ways of dealing with her."

The landlady approached the center of the card table, mysteriously glancing around:

"My yard is about to be included in the demolition area. The community officials came to measure the area a couple of days ago."

Upon hearing this, the three old women's eyes gleamed with greedy envy.

"My God, you're going to make a fortune!"

"How many apartments would we have to pay in compensation?"

"I haven't told those two, grandmother and grandson, about this yet." The landlady slammed a fortune-telling card on the table and said fiercely, "I'll have my son knock on the door later."

She became more and more smug as she spoke:

"They said that starting next month, the rent will increase by half, but if you pay next year's rent in advance, it will still be the same price."

"Let's rip them off one last time!"

After hearing this, the old lady clapped her hands and exclaimed, "Brilliant! This money..."

The landlady grinned, revealing two large, yellow teeth, and said with a lewd smile:

"Tonight, we old folks will deliberately eat extra garlic to cover this debt. And whatever you do, don't brush your teeth."

She got more and more excited as she talked, and she was practically spitting out saliva:

"Then we'd go to a karaoke bar, book a large private room, and order three or four young, handsome male models!"

"Give them a good beating!" The landlady slammed her hand on the table. "Ten minutes of French kissing each of them! No money if they don't make a sound!"

The old lady slapped her thigh in response:

"I want someone with abs who can sing and dance!"

A burst of shrill laughter erupted from the card table.

At the other end of the courtyard.

Bai Li and Li Jiaxin walked side by side, completely ignoring what those old fogies were whispering about.

They arrived at the bungalow in the corner of the yard.

The door was ajar, not fully closed.

Li Jiaxin stopped in front of the door.

The last time I visited, my grandmother had a cold and fever, and I couldn't even afford cold medicine back then.

Now, in less than half a year...

I've undergone tremendous changes, let alone a dose of cold medicine.

Even if it's just a house, you can manage to buy it if you grit your teeth.

Thinking of this, Li Jiaxin subconsciously glanced at the man next to her.

She knew all her confidence came from Bai Li.

"This feels so good..."

She patted her chest, suppressing the soreness rising in her nose.

Then, she sheds her prickly, quirky persona and reveals her most innocent side.

Li Jiaxin pushed open the door, her voice sweet:

"Grandma, I'm home!"
