The taxi stopped by the side of a desolate highway.

The driver pointed ahead: "That's the border crossing. There are checkpoints further ahead, so tourists usually can't cross. There are many hills around here. Look across, those houses are towns in Myanmar."

Luo Fei paid the fare, gently opened the car door, and got out.

He stood by the roadside with a backpack on his back.

A few hundred meters ahead, you can see the solemn national gate of China and its fluttering flags, with vehicles and people queuing up for inspection.

Further away, a not-so-high mountain range stretched across the landscape. On the other side of the mountain, the buildings were distinctly different, appearing cluttered and low—that was Myanmar.

The border line winds its way through these mountains.

Luo Fei did not head towards the port.

He turned and walked towards the overgrown hillside on the other side of the road.

There were no roads there, the forests were dense, and it was a place rarely visited by people.

After walking for a few minutes, I confirmed that I was completely out of sight of the road, and the only sounds around me were the chirping of insects, birds, and the rustling of leaves in the wind.

Luo Fei stopped in his tracks.

He put down his backpack, took out his phone from his pocket, turned off data and location services, put it on silent, and stuffed it into the innermost part of his backpack.

Then, he put his backpack back on and adjusted the shoulder straps.

I looked up and gazed at the lush, green mountain range in front of me.

The conventional path is no longer viable.

Then let's not take the conventional route.

The next moment, he moved.

Without a running start, with just a slight bend in the knees, the terrifying power in his legs exploded out!

"Bang!"

Suddenly, a shallow crater appeared in the mud beneath their feet!

He shot up the hillside like a cannonball!

Extremely fast!

The surrounding trees, vines, and rocks transformed into a blurry green and gray light and shadow, rushing backward!

The wind whistled sharply in my ears!

This time, he didn't panic. Instead, he focused his mind and tried to control his body's posture in the air.

I adjusted my legs slightly to avoid the thick branches coming from the front.

"Snap!"

He knocked a tree branch, as thick as a bowl, off his path with his shoulder, but his body only shuddered slightly, and his speed was hardly affected.

Instead of taking the easily exposed straight ascent, he quickly bounced and used the momentum in the forest.

Each step on a tree trunk or rock leaves a clear dent or crack, with wood chips and stone dust falling in a flurry.

But his figure had already darted up to an even higher place like a ghost.

In a few leaps and bounds, he was close to the ridge.

The vegetation here is much denser, making it almost impossible to pass through.

Without pausing, Luo Fei forcefully smashed and tore apart the tough vines and thorny bushes, making cracking sounds as they snapped.

The clothes were torn in more places, and there was a slight sensation on the skin, but it wasn't even an itch.

His speed only slowed down for a moment before accelerating again.

Finally, he reached the ridge.

A narrow path, barely visible and covered by weeds, lies before us.

Beside it, a mottled stone tablet is half-buried in the soil, with blurred numbers and border markings engraved on it.

There was no barbed wire, no obvious signs, only this desolate ridge and silent forest.

This is the boundary.

His gaze turned to the other side of the ridge.

Over there, the terrain is gentler, with an endless green forest. But in the more distant valleys, you can clearly see more disorganized buildings, wisps of smoke rising from chimneys, and even faint shouts in local dialects and barking dogs.

Myanmar.

he came.

Without hesitation, he leaped off the ridge.

He fell faster, but this time he was more experienced and used his toes or hands to brace himself against trees and protruding rocks on the steep slope to slow the impact.

His movements were still somewhat stiff, and several times he used too much force, kicking the saplings so hard they shook violently, or stepping on the rocks so hard that they shattered and flew off.

Upon landing, their feet left two shallow craters in the ground, causing the surrounding leaves to scatter.

Luo Fei steadied himself, half-squatting on the ground, and looked around.

He successfully crossed the border.

There was no patrol team encountered, no alarm was triggered, and the process was simple and brutal.

He did not immediately rush towards the town below.

Instead, they crouched low, using the trees for cover, and moved quickly toward the valley where the buildings were relatively concentrated, which they had seen earlier on the mountain.

The movements are still fast, but the violent collisions with vegetation are minimized, and the landings are made more delicate.

With enhanced senses fully engaged, one can hear in all directions and see in all directions, capturing any unusual movements.

As he walked through a relatively open banana grove, he saw some empty mineral water bottles and food packaging bags scattered on the ground, with writing in Burmese mixed with some Chinese characters.

There were signs of human activity.

He became more cautious, slowed down, and completely disappeared into the shadows of the plants.

About half an hour later, he approached the edge of the valley.

Hiding behind the dense bushes, he looked down.

This is a typical border town, or rather, a large village.

The houses are low and cluttered, mostly with corrugated iron or asbestos tile roofs, and the walls are mottled.

The road was a bumpy dirt road, and sewage flowed everywhere.

On the street, you can see local men with dark skin, wearing traditional Burmese sarongs, speeding by on dilapidated motorcycles.

You can also see some Chinese faces dressed no differently than those in China, looking hurried, or chatting in front of simple shops.

Even more striking are the several areas enclosed by high walls on the edge of the town, near the mountains.

The walls are covered with barbed wire, and some of them are even electrified.

There were male guards at the entrance, dressed in messy uniforms and carrying guns, their eyes scanning the surroundings warily.

Those are very likely the park area.

Luo Fei's heartbeat quickened slightly.

My sister might be inside one of those high walls.

But he cannot act rashly.

He needed information, specifically which park it was, what its structure was, how many guards were on it, and where the hostages were being held.

A direct assault might break through the walls, but if the younger sister isn't found and protected immediately, the consequences could be dire.

His goal was to save lives, not to destroy them.

After observing for a while, he noticed several shops with Chinese signs on the main street of the town: one was "Sichuan Snacks" and the other was "Hardware and Department Store".

There, he might find the information he needs.

Soon, he arrived at the edge of the main street.

There were more people on the street than I had imagined, a mix of all sorts of people.

Besides locals and Chinese, you can also see faces from other Southeast Asian countries with shifty eyes and tense expressions.

Luo Fei's gaze locked onto that "Sichuan-style snack" shop.

The shop was small, with two folding tables at the entrance. A slightly overweight, middle-aged Chinese owner wearing an apron was stir-frying something in a wok, and the aroma wafted out.

There were no other customers in the store.

Luo Fei took a few breaths to make his expression as natural as possible, even showing a hint of fatigue.

He walked over.

"Boss, let's eat," he said in Mandarin.

The middle-aged boss looked up, glanced at him, and his gaze lingered for a moment on the man's muddy, grass-covered, and tattered clothes. A look of wariness flashed in his eyes, but he quickly regained his composure.

"What would you like to eat? Fried rice, rice noodles, we have both," the owner said in Mandarin with a heavy Sichuan and Chongqing accent.

"A bowl of fried rice and a bottle of water." Luo Fei sat down at a table near the back and put his backpack down beside him.

"Hold on."

The boss turned around and went to get busy.

Taking this opportunity, Luo Fei quickly scanned the store and the street.

Several faded landscape paintings of China and a yellowed calendar were pasted on the wall.

The television in the corner was on, playing a blurry Burmese program.

Everything looked like an ordinary snack shop in any remote town in China.

But Luo Fei knew that those who could open a shop here and do business steadily were no ordinary people.

The fried rice was served quickly; it looked ordinary and was very oily.

Luo Fei picked up the disposable chopsticks, and this time he controlled them well and didn't break them.

He ate slowly.

The boss wiped his hands, sat down on the stool next to him, lit a cigarette, and asked casually, "Brother, just arrived? You look unfamiliar."

Luo Fei raised his head, swallowed the food in his mouth, and gave a somewhat bitter smile: "Well, something happened at home, so I came here... to find some work."

The boss exhaled a puff of smoke, his gaze sweeping over the man's face without probing further. He simply said, "There are jobs here, but they're not easy to find. Judging from your appearance... you haven't made any proper arrangements?"

"No," Luo Fei shook his head, put down his chopsticks, took a sip of water, and lowered his voice, "Boss, I'm really desperate. My sister was... was taken here by these people, they say she's in some kind of industrial park. I just want to know... what places are around here? What's the situation?"

His voice was filled with anxiety.

The boss paused in his smoking, his expression becoming somewhat complicated.

He silently took a few puffs of his cigarette, glanced at the doorway to make sure nothing was amiss, and then said in a lower voice, "Brother, you shouldn't ask these questions. The waters around here are very murky."

"I know, boss," Luo Fei leaned forward slightly, his eyes earnest. "I just want to know the general outline, to have a general idea. My sister is 19 years old, looks like a student, and she's with three other female classmates. Have you... heard of her? Or do you know which brothel a new girl has been sent to recently? I... I'll pay."

As he spoke, he pretended to take money out of his pocket.

The boss waved his hand to stop him and sighed.

"Money... never mind." The boss flicked his cigarette ash, lowered his voice, and spoke faster. "You seem like an honest person. I'll just say a few words to you, listen and then leave. Don't cause trouble, and don't tell anyone I told you."

Luo Fei nodded immediately.

"There are three or four large parks around this town. There's the 'Hengsheng Science and Technology Park' in the mountain valley to the north, the 'New World Entertainment City' by the river to the east, and the 'Jinhui International' a little further away to the west."

The boss used his cigarette butt to point in the direction.

"These are places that devour people without spitting out the bones. Once you get in, no matter how you got in, it's hard to get out."

"Your sister... a girl who looks like a student, if she came in the last few days..." The boss hesitated, seemingly recalling something, "I overheard a couple of people who come to eat these past two days chatting, and they said that a new batch of 'goods' arrived at 'Jinhui International,' including several young women, crying and making quite a fuss. I wonder if that's it..."

Jinhui International!

"West... Jinhui International..." Luo Fei repeated it, memorizing it firmly.

"That place," the boss took a drag of his cigarette, a hint of apprehension on his face, "is heavily guarded, full of thugs, and armed. The manager is called Chatchai, a local, ruthless, and connected to many local forces. Brother, take my advice, if you really end up there..."

The boss didn't finish speaking, but the meaning was clear.

Luo Fei nodded silently and shoveled the last bite of fried rice into his mouth.

"Thank you, boss," he said softly, taking out some money and placing it on the table; the amount was slightly more than the cost of the meal.

The boss glanced at it, said nothing, and silently put it away.

Luo Fei slung his backpack over his shoulder and stood up.

Thank you.

He turned around and quickly walked into a secluded alley.

The figure quickly disappeared into the chaotic buildings.

The shop owner watched the direction he disappeared in, shook his head, stubbed out his cigarette, and muttered under his breath, "Another one who doesn't know his own limits... Sigh."

He turned around and went back to the stove.
