Chapter 113 Old Toth's Lessons
Wind and City, training camp.
In the afternoon, the camp was bustling with people. Although Eric and his sister were not seen, there were still quite a few adventurers practicing. "Broken Arrow" took three arrows from his sword quiver and nocked them on his longbow. He was practicing a new combat technique.
After purchasing the scale armor, Lindsay planned to practice his weapon expertise with the instructors at the Wind and City guild training camp.
After spending 3 silver coins to have his helmet repaired at a blacksmith's shop in the Adventure District, he was already inside the camp's wooden fence, chatting with old Instructor Thoth in the shade.
"Instructor, you said you would teach all styles of weapons, right?"
Old Toth, reclining in his deckchair, glanced at Lindsay: "It's like this... Now that the cult outside Wind and City has been eliminated, my classes will resume tomorrow."
"Are the instructors going to start another round of classes?"
"Really? We've been waiting for so long! We have to go to class too!"
Old Toth had just finished answering Linsset when, somehow, the news reached the ears of several well-dressed adventurers nearby. They all came into the shade and gathered around the old instructor, whispering among themselves.
Linsel noticed that the adventurer nameplates worn by these people were all bronze, but their armor and inner clothing were quite unique and gorgeous. The clothes were not only brightly colored but also had decorative patterns, unlike those of ordinary adventurers.
Could it be that the old instructor is exceptionally skilled, attracting such attention from these adventurers who appear to be wealthy and influential?
I already inquired last time, and the cost of a weapon training course is 30 silver coins. This is not an amount that a low-level adventurer can easily afford. Moreover, I only have 29 silver coins left, and I'm still 1 silver coin short.
"Don't get excited, Tovan. You're a veteran student now. As long as you've paid your tuition, there's no way we won't teach you," Old Tovan said to one of the round-faced, muscular men in the group.
"Instructor, how many days is your course in total?"
Faced with Lindsay's question, old Toth narrowed his eyes, seemingly speechless at the question.
"How many days is the course? If it's too short, unless you really have no talent and can't learn it at all, you can come to me for classes and guidance within six months."
"Adventurer, you underestimate our Instructor Thoth. He only teaches twice a year, and each time he only takes in a dozen or so students. It's nothing like the teaching methods of other town instructors who teach hundreds of people at a time."
"This is what the round-faced Tovan added," he said, leaning closer to Tot and handing him the money bag in a steady voice.
"Instructor, I'd like to learn two-handed sword this time. Here's the tuition fee; please check it."
Old Toth then picked up a notebook from the box next to him, opened it, and began to take notes.
At this time, many other adventurers in the camp also gathered around, some to sign up, and some just to join in the fun.
"Instructor, for the two-handed sword specialty course registration, including my fee, we are still 1 silver coin short. Please wait a moment."
Lindsay plans to take courses in two-handed swords to improve his proficiency with the weapons he currently uses.
As for the lack of money, he shouted to "Broken Arrow," who was practicing archery not far away, and beckoned him over.
"What's wrong?"
"Brinan, lend me a silver coin."
"Captain, is one silver coin all you need?" Broken Arrow leaned closer, reaching into his purse to take out a silver coin. "Actually, you can borrow a few more."
"Sure, I'm penniless right now because I've been trying to register for the course. Could you lend me some of my living expenses for the next few days?"
The old instructor was now surrounded by twenty or thirty people. It was very hot and noisy. After paying his tuition, Lin Sai withdrew from the crowd.
"Brinan, why don't you sign up for a course with that instructor too?"
"Broken Arrow" shook his head: "I'm currently practicing new combat techniques, and my energy is limited. I really don't have time to learn them."
"But Captain, now that you've signed up for the camp courses, aren't you planning to learn the combat skill books you got in exchange for them?"
"We'll talk about that later. We'll stay in Wind City for a while. The preliminary rounds of the tournament start at the end of the month, and I want to register."
"Once everything's settled after the event, our [Sharp Teeth] team can consider returning to Linchui Town."
Linsel hadn't forgotten the bone plates he'd obtained from killing ogres before. He'd attached those plates to his newly purchased scale armor, which should significantly improve his defense.
Linsel was really looking forward to the Adventurers' Tournament. It would be best if he could win, but no matter what his final ranking was, even if he came in low, it would be good to see what the tournament was like.
Upon hearing the words "Sharp Teeth" from the team, "Broken Arrow" seemed to have thought of something.
"Captain, speaking of our squad, I think 'Phantom' has been with us for a while now. She's a reliable teammate, and the squad just happens to be lacking a scout adventurer who can do reconnaissance."
Judging from her attitude the other day, I feel like we can bring her into the team. Captain, what do you think?
Should we invite Claire to join the team? It's not impossible. In fact, as "Broken Arrow" said, having her in the party would make things more lively, and the help of the Wanderer class would make future adventures more comfortable.
"Okay, Brinnan, you keep practicing. I'll go to the guild and leave her a message now, and borrow some more money for the message..."
The guild and training camp were very close, and Linsel re-entered the hall a few minutes later.
There were still only a few people in the hall. Lindsay went to the front desk, left a brief message for Claire, and then turned his attention to the task board in the hall.
I now owe "Broken Arrow" a few silver coins, so I need to earn some living expenses quickly and see if there are any easier tasks available.
A task to collect herbs caught his eye.
--------
Task: Collect at least 10 irises from the outer edge of the primeval forest southwest of Wind and City. Bronze level, 2 days.
Reward: 2 silver coins, 80 copper coins per iris flower, 12 points.
Note: The alchemists in Wind and City are short of iris flowers, an alchemy material. Please collect some and hand them in. Be aware that there may be mutated animals on the outskirts of the primeval forest.
--------
One iris flower costs 80 copper coins, which is quite valuable. Moreover, judging from the picture given in the quest book, the white petals of this iris flower are quite eye-catching in a forest dominated by green tones.
However, considering that at least 10 flowers are needed, this flower shouldn't be considered rare in the forest.
However, the price and the fact that the adventurer level requirement is Bronze level indicate that finding it will not be easy, and you may also encounter mutated animals.
Enchanted animals... Linsel thought of the enchanted dire wolves and enchanted wild dogs he had encountered in his previous adventures. With his current strength and the protection of his newly purchased heavy scale armor, he should be able to deal with them easily.
