Chapter 118 Encounter in the Forest
Following the direction that "Broken Arrow" suspected, Lindsay also noticed a noise coming from a clump of trees ahead, so he took the crossbow from his back.
Something's up; there's something hidden in there.
The two held their breath, and after a while, three men emerged from behind the bushes. They appeared to be adventurers.
Judging from their attire—two in leather armor and one in chainmail, armed with swords and shields and pikes—and their bronze adventurer badges, they were clearly three bronze-level adventurers.
"No need to be so wary, we are adventurers too." The man in chainmail seemed to be the leader of the two behind him. At this moment, he raised his hands forward to show goodwill to Linsel and his companion.
"It's normal to be more vigilant now that we're in the wild." Linsel only slightly lowered the pulley crossbow in his hand; he still maintained a considerable degree of caution.
Although adventurers are a registered profession with official status, based on the original owner's more than ten years of life experience, the composition of this profession is still uneven, and their average morality is only slightly better than that of bandits.
"What are you doing here?" Broken Arrow asked tentatively.
"Hello, I am 'Broken Boots'," the young man in chainmail introduced himself. "The three of us came into the primeval forest in search of a medicinal herb, and we just happened to run into you."
"I am 'The Wolf Slayer.' Looking for herbs? What a coincidence, 'Broken Boots,' we're also here to collect herbs. Did you accept a guild quest?"
Just as the adventurer known as "Broken Boots" was about to answer, another sword-and-shield man behind him preemptively explained.
"No, we were commissioned by an alchemist in the city to find herbs for him. The reward he's offering is much higher than what the guild pays..."
"Why say so much..." Another contradictory man next to him nudged the adventurer. His voice was soft, but Lindsay and "Broken Arrow" heard it clearly. "The alchemist's request hasn't been completed yet. We need to hurry."
Lindsay ignored this little incident: "So, did you find it or not?"
"Broken Boots" picked up the conversation: "No, we're collecting a rare herb called Dragon Deli Grass. This herb grows in hidden caves throughout the primeval forest. May I ask if you've seen any of these hidden caves in the forest?"
"No, we're getting ready to leave now. Good luck."
Lindsay didn't want to get involved with people he had nothing to do with, and if there were no problems, it would be best to leave first.
"Go, 'Broken Arrow'."
Just as the two were about to leave, "Broken Boots" called them back again.
"Don't rush off, 'Wolf Slayer.' Judging by your wolf-head helmet and the title 'Wolf Slayer,' you must be the adventurer who quelled the cultist riot in Wind and City a few days ago!"
"It's me. Is there anything else?"
"I've heard so much about you! Your reputation is known throughout the adventurers of Wind and City. You're truly amazing! So, if you're interested, would you be willing to temporarily team up with us to search for Dragon Deli Grass?"
"Broken Boots" continued, "The alchemist we commissioned has offered a hefty reward—a whole gold coin—but he's only asking for three days."
We've been searching in the primeval forest for over two days now, without any results. Every extra person helps. If you're willing to help us find the cave, you'll receive 40 silver coins as a reward.
"Moreover, the primeval forest is currently fraught with danger, so we can look out for each other," the sword and shield adventurer added from the side.
Danger inside the forest? Lindsay thought that sounded unbelievable.
At least during the time that he and "Broken Arrow" were searching for irises, they did not encounter any danger in the forest.
"Is it dangerous? I don't think so. We haven't discovered any monsters or anything like that yet."
"You might have been lucky and didn't run into any. At least the three of us have been attacked by wild animals three times in the woods today."
"Yes, yes, one of my trouser legs has been bitten through, and my arm is injured too."
The Contradictory Adventurer pointed to his trouser leg, revealing his upper arm, which was wrapped in bandages and splinted, indicating a serious injury.
"A beast, what kind of beast?" Lindsay was still asking for information.
Regardless of whether what the other party said is true or false, it is normal for there to be wild beasts and monsters in the primeval forest. In fact, I hope that I can encounter some new monsters like the Phantom Ghost on this mission.
"It's an animal that looks a lot like a dire wolf, but we still can't name it. It's much bigger than a dire wolf and very fast, but even after looking through the Monster Compendium, we still couldn't find it."
The beast, which resembled a dire wolf, piqued his interest.
"How is the beast? Did you kill it?"
"No, it attacked us once and then disappeared, but we always feel that the beast is following us nearby, it just hasn't shown itself yet."
This guy isn't actually that strong, he's just very good at ambushes, so you don't need to worry too much.
With new beast and monster abilities, Lindsay has no intention of letting this opportunity slip by.
Anyway, these three bronze-level adventurers seem to be of average skill, and with my current strength, I don't feel I need to worry too much. I just need to be a little careful.
Linsel called "Broken Arrow" to his side and whispered, "Well then, Brinnan, I'll take you to the edge of the forest. You go and submit the quest with the flowers, and I'll return to the city the next day."
"Captain, aren't you coming back to the city with me? Are you really going to help these strangers?"
"I borrowed some silver coins from you, so I'll help them out and earn some more. You go back to the city first, and I'll go to the guild later."
Seeing that Linsset's attitude was firm, "Broken Arrow" agreed.
He whispered, "Captain, you need to be careful. Even though you're very strong now, you have to pay attention to your surroundings at all times, and run away if anything seems wrong."
Linsley turned to the three men, "Broken Boots," and formally answered, "We've already accepted a guild quest, so I'll help you search."
However, there's a condition: I need to escort my teammate out of the primeval forest; he needs to submit his quest.
"Broken Boots" thought for a moment and then said, "No problem, but since you two have become one, the agreed-upon reward will be halved to 20 silver coins. How about that?"
"No problem," Lindsay readily agreed.
After the five people reached an agreement, they began to act together, following the path that Linse and "Broken Arrow" had taken, and returned to the outside of the primeval forest.
