Chapter 117 The Primeval Forest
"It's alright, at least I cut off the mouthparts of two of the bewildering monsters."
Linsel opened the panel and began selecting the newly acquired monster abilities.
[Confusing White Mist: You can exhale white breath to create a white mist. The white mist has low visibility, and enemies inside the white mist will have significantly reduced resistance to mental attacks.]
[Spell-like Ability • Blink: You can teleport a short distance]
【Hard Claws: Strengthen your fingers and nails to the hardness of iron, allowing you to scratch your enemies】
All three abilities seem very strong, especially the first and second.
The first [Bewildering White Mist] is a support ability. According to the panel description, if combined with mental spells, it can cause considerable trouble for enemies.
The second [spell-like ability - Blink] is powerful and direct, possessing the ability to teleport. Even with a short distance, it has a variety of unexpected uses. Combined with his previous monster ability [Danger Sense], his survivability will be greatly enhanced.
The third ability is a relatively common skill from the Claw series of monsters. Lindsay had encountered a similar ability before but did not choose it because there were better options at the time, and the same applies now.
After considering for a few minutes, Lindsay finally decided to choose [Spell-like Ability: Blink].
[Spell-like ability • Blink] has been successfully selected.
After selecting his abilities, Lindsay threw the monster materials he had collected into "Broken Arrow's" basket.
As for testing his new ability, he plans to find a suitable opportunity to test it himself next time. He doesn't want others to know about his new ability for the time being, so that it can be a safer means of protecting himself.
Of course, Lindsay did not forget the purpose of his trip, but seeing "Broken Arrow" standing there hesitantly, he casually asked him a question.
"Brinan, how are you? Are you injured?"
"Without a captain, I'm just wondering where this bewildering monster came from. Did it just happen to come out of the forest and encounter us, or was it deliberately lying in ambush here?"
The origin of the phantom ghost is a good question.
Previously, I had been affected by the phantom ghost's mental spell, which was controlled around the dilapidated wooden house. So perhaps if I entered this wooden house, I might be able to find something.
"Hmm, it's hard to say. Try searching this dilapidated wooden hut; maybe you'll find the answer."
Lin Sai hadn't gone into the rather suspicious wooden cabin yet. Although it looked like it hadn't been lived in for decades and the windows were nailed shut, the door was ajar, making it seem very mysterious.
Linsset approached the wooden door and kicked it hard.
With a loud bang, the wooden door shook once, and then there was no further reaction.
"Broken Arrow" also kicked a few times, and the wooden door remained tightly shut. The door, which looked rotten and full of holes, suddenly became incredibly sturdy.
"Broken Arrow" pushed the wooden door hard again, but still to no avail.
"Captain, what's wrong with this door? It feels a bit strange."
Linsel also found it strange. Although the wooden door was old and in disrepair, the two of them kicked it several times and pushed it with their hands, but they still couldn't open it.
Could it be that there is some kind of magic or barrier protecting it, preventing outsiders who don't know the secrets from entering?
Linsel tried to consider this, but he was now in a dilemma. Unfortunately, the team was short-handed. If a professional mage adventurer joined as a teammate, then the other party should have a solution.
"Brinan, I think this tree might be under some kind of spell. I want to try it with a fire arrow. Stand back a bit."
"This, this isn't a good idea," Broken Arrow offered a different opinion. "If the torch sets the wooden house on fire and burns it down, then it would be a huge loss."
"That makes sense. Let's make a note of this place and talk about it after we finish the mission."
The two agreed, and the next step was to make a mark.
"Broken Arrow" looked around, searching for a prominent landmark.
"This place doesn't feel too remote. When we came from Wind and City, the dirt road forked three times on the right. This dilapidated wooden house is located at the end of the dirt road after the third fork, next to the primeval forest."
Lindsay silently memorized the location.
"The primeval forest is right in front of us. Let's go into the outer edge of the forest now and pick irises."
After quickly tidying up their clothes, the two set off again. A few minutes later, they reached the edge of the primeval forest.
Upon closer inspection, this primeval forest felt quite different from the Twilight Forest in Linse Town.
The further into the forest you look, the darker it gets. Even though it's late autumn, the trees are still lush, and this forest is even darker than the Twilight Forest.
Linsel sighed inwardly, "No wonder it's called a primeval forest. At least in the Twilight Forest, hunters often roam the outskirts, but here the forest floor is covered with thick grass and moss."
Looking at the primeval forest outside the city, it seems to be untouched by humans and has never been developed by them. Perhaps it contains some unknown dangers.
Linsel was thinking this, while "Broken Arrow" didn't hesitate much. He had already walked into the primeval forest and arrived next to a thick tree.
"Captain, come quick! I've found an iris!"
"Oh? Where?" Lindsay immediately followed.
Ultimately, they still had to go into the forest. The mission manual explained that the flowers to be picked were located on the outer edge of the forest. Even though there might be many unknown things in the forest, there might also be opportunities, and they might encounter something interesting.
"Broken Arrow" pointed to a white flower in the corner of the tree trunk: "Let me take a look at the mission manual to confirm, this should be it."
Linsel took out the mission sheet, and the two compared it; it was indeed an iris.
"Good, this counts as the first one."
"There's another one over there in the woods!"
"Broken Arrow" smiled and gestured towards a dimly lit area about seven or eight meters away in the primeval forest.
Linsset looked closely and indeed, there was a small white flower at the base of a large, thick tree.
"This is the second one." "Broken Arrow" walked to the flower, squatted down, and picked it into his basket.
"It seems like we've found a pattern; irises probably grow around these thick trees."
……
The two had entered the outer area of the primeval forest.
After picking the twelfth iris, Linsset could still see the sunlight streaming down from above through the gaps in the dense canopy.
The sun was now high in the sky, about two hours after we set off.
Now that we have met the minimum requirement for the number of samples collected, we can return.
"Brinan, it's getting late, let's get ready to head back to the city."
"Oh, okay." Broken Arrow's foot crunched on the fallen leaves.
"Wait a minute," he immediately took out his bow and arrow, "Captain, there seems to be some movement ahead."
