Chapter 150 The Chase

Linsel didn't delay any longer and immediately left the guild with his two teammates.

They spent some copper coins at the general store in the Adventure District, quickly bought a few pieces of black bread and dried meat, and a little over ten minutes later, the three of them passed through the guards' gate at the East Gate of Wind and City and arrived at a few carriages parked at the gate.

Claire walked over to one of the carriages, knocked on the wooden carriage a few times, and then a middle-aged coachman in his fifties appeared from inside.

"Old Gen, do it the usual way, but this time there are two more people, both of them are my friends."

The coachman glanced at Lindsay and "Broken Arrow": "The Phantom, and... the Wolf Slayer?"

"it's me."

"Should we go to Linchui Town?"

Claire: "Yes, let's get going quickly, this time we need to be fast."

"Get in the car."

After everyone was settled in the carriage, the driver, known as Lao Gen, immediately whipped the horses, and the carriage sped off along the town's main road.

"Broken Arrow" looked at the Wind and City receding into the distance and said, "With the car going this fast, we should be able to dodge those guys now."

Linsset did not answer the question. In his backward gaze, several beams of fire shot from the Wind and City into the sky, displaying a dazzling array of colors.

Fireworks in another world too! Judging by the scale, they must have been set off at the closing ceremony of the tournament.

However, he had no interest in appreciating any of this, because "Broken Arrow" beside him was carefully staring at the road behind the car in the distance and had discovered something.

"No, Captain, it looks like there are two carriages following us!"

Linsset saw it too, and he immediately took out his crossbow. Just as "Broken Arrow" had said, there were indeed two carriages following behind.

"Brinan, can you make out who they are? Are they those troublemaking adventurers?"

"I can't see very clearly, but there seem to be two people sitting in the front of the nearest car. Of all the guys with a motive, it's almost certain it's them!"

"Be prepared for battle. Shoot whenever you're within range and see if you can take down a few first."

"Broken Arrow" nodded, then urged Claire, "Could you ask the driver to go faster?"

Claire knocked on the wooden planks of the front of the carriage again: "Faster! Someone's chasing us!"

"You guys are in trouble, huh? Okay then."

After a series of neighings from the horses, the carriage began to shake. Linssé felt that the speed of the carriage had increased significantly, but the two carriages chasing behind still maintained a safe distance and had not completely shaken off the pursuers.

Claire was very anxious: "Old Gen, the speed is still not enough!"

"This is already the fastest speed possible. Any faster and the carriage will become unstable and easily overturn!"

Linsset leaned out of the carriage and looked ahead; the carriage was about to enter the distant woods.

Lao Gen's voice came from beside me: "Slow down as we enter the forest, hold on tight!"

After the coachman finished speaking, the carriage suddenly jolted, almost causing "Broken Arrow" to fall inside the carriage. Taking advantage of this opportunity, the two carriages behind closed the distance.

Linsel raised his crossbow and aimed it at the pursuing carriage behind him, because he had clearly seen that, apart from the coachman, a crossbowman adventurer was also sitting in the driver's seat, aiming in his direction.

Since these adventurers are looking for trouble and are willing to violate the Adventurers' Guild's rules to take action, then they have no one to blame but themselves.

The distance between the two vehicles was now less than thirty meters. When Linssé confirmed that the enemy was within his stable firing range, he immediately pulled the trigger of his crossbow.

The enemy's crossbow bolts were fired almost simultaneously, the two bolts flying in opposite directions toward their respective targets.

The opponent's crossbow bolts were incredibly fast, and Lindsay suddenly felt an impact on his chest that sent him flying backward.

He quickly sat up and discovered that the enemy's crossbow bolt had penetrated directly into the heavy scale armor on his chest. Fortunately, the armor was sturdy enough that it did not pierce through.

That crossbow is powerful! It seems the opponent's crossbow must be a very strong one.

After regaining his balance, "Broken Arrow" followed Linsset's movements, drawing his longbow with full force and firing.

Lindsay reloaded his crossbow, but he saw the crossbowman on the opposite carriage dodge to the side, thus avoiding his bolt.

Who is this person? Their reaction speed is incredibly fast!

"Captain!" The second arrow of "Broken Arrow" has been fired. "The groom has been hit by my combat technique [Long Shot], they're finished!"

Linsel looked closely and, sure enough, the coachman sitting next to the crossbowman lost his balance and fell off the carriage, rolling around on the ground.

But the crossbowman also dodged the second arrow from "Broken Arrow" by sidestepping, and then he pulled on the reins, trying to steady the horse that was gradually going out of control due to the loss of its groom.

"Who's finished? I'm perfectly fine!" came Old Gen's angry curse from the front of the carriage.

"Old Gen, it's not you... Lin Se's 'Broken Arrow' is heading into the forest!"

Claire's reminder prompted the two to immediately grab onto the edge of the carriage and lie down inside.

Lush trees began to flash past on both sides of the field of vision. The carriage following closely behind slowed down slightly because it no longer had a driver, but a second carriage caught up with it, with three people squeezed in front of it.

The forest road was quite winding, and the carriage had to turn left and right repeatedly. This wouldn't be a problem for normal driving, but Lin Sai and his companions were currently traveling at an extremely high speed, resulting in the carriage swaying violently back and forth, and even giving the feeling that it was about to overturn.

The good news is that the two vehicles chasing from behind were affected, and the distance between them increased to more than 30 meters.

Linsset gazed back.

"Brinan, are you still confident you can hit the target?"

"Broken Arrow" loosened his longbow: "The carriage is unstable, [rapid fire] can only be used at closer range, and I can't aim properly now."

"It's a pity, but on the bright side, they can't shoot us anymore, which means Claire's driver friend is quite skilled."

Claire tapped on the wooden side panel of the front car: "Old Gen, my friend's praising you!"

Old Gen, sitting in front of the carriage, was very pleased with himself.

"I've been driving carriages for decades, it's no problem. Even if the guild members came to chase me, they couldn't catch up..."

"Captain, it looks like they've caught up again!"

"Broken Arrow" drew his bow again. This time, what was closing in on the carriage was not the carriage itself, but two horses, and one of the riders was the crossbowman adventurer.

"It's like a persistent ghost."

Linsel's pulley crossbow and "Broken Arrow's" longbow fired again, but just like before, the crossbowman dodged them by lying down and hitting his horse on the back.

"This is weird, Captain. I've never heard of a combat technique that can dodge arrows. I used [Long Shot] but I still couldn't hit it."

Linsel opened the panel to see through the crossbowman adventurer.

Something's not right. His profession is warrior, and he's pretty average in other aspects. What's going on?

As the horses drew closer, Lindsay suddenly heard a loud bang in his ear.

"ah…"

Claire's screams, the horses' mournful cries, and the sounds of the carriage colliding and shattering mingled together, and a tremendous impact hurled Lindsay out of the carriage.

His vision went black for a moment, then he regained consciousness instantly. He was in pain all over his body and found himself lying on his back on the road.
