Chapter 16 Attack the Camp

Needless to say, the female vagrant passed successfully, as did those with "flat noses" and "scarred faces".

This was all within Linsel's expectations; among the twenty-odd adventurers who signed up, those who failed the screening were the ones who looked relatively weak.

"Alright, the rest of you adventurers, you should be stronger than the weakest thugs in the camp. Now listen to my explanation of the details."

Sheriff Will continued loudly, "The Vulture Regiment's camp is about twenty or thirty kilometers north of here, on a small hill."

Now, all Bronze-level adventurers, step forward. Each of you will form a team with two Iron-level adventurers, making a total of six teams. Familiarize yourselves with each other so that it will be easier to coordinate and command during later missions.

"Sir, will you be participating in the war?" asked the "Flat-nosed" goblin.

"I will lead my guard squad into battle as usual, so there's no need to worry."

Claire waved to Lindsay, who then followed her. The other Iron-ranked adventurer traveling with Lindsay was an unfamiliar, somewhat dull-looking young man.

Will then asked, "Any more questions? If not, go back and make some more preparations. Meet here in two hours. Anyone who doesn't show up will be considered to have breached the mission."

……

When Linssey arrived at the city gate again, four carriages were already parked there.

Sitting in the carriage, the carriage started moving, and the mission officially began.

On the way, Claire glanced at the young man beside her who was using the paradox, and then looked at the many pieces of equipment on Lindsay's body, and asked.

"Lince, what weapon are you good with—a spear, a sword, a shield, or perhaps this crossbow?"

"I'd say I'm a jack-of-all-trades, I know a little bit about everything, but I'm not really proficient in any one weapon."

Lindsay did not reveal his magical monster abilities; this fire arrow was his trump card.

"To be able to use so many weapons at such a young age, you must be one of those exceptionally talented adventurers who learned all sorts of unorthodox methods."

Claire pulled a dagger and a short sword from her wallet: "These are my preferred weapons. I can also throw darts, and they're poisoned. As for my combat skills, I'll keep that a secret for now."

"Combat skills? You actually know combat skills!" The male adventurer next to him suddenly spoke up.

"I'm a professional, of course I know how. Don't be so surprised. What's your name?"

"Jerry."

After Claire expressed her understanding, she said, "I have a general idea of your skill level. I hope we can cooperate happily in the future."

After driving for more than an hour, the convoy stopped at the foot of a small hill.

All the adventurers got off the vehicle, and a few secretly climbed up the small hill to look at the opposite side in the distance.

A wooden building enclosed by a wooden fence, along with some tents, constituted the Vulture Gang's bandit camp.

Sheriff Will, accompanied by a dozen guards, signaled to the adventurers to remain hidden and not to expose themselves too quickly.

"Our official operation will take place in the evening. We still have several hours to rest. You can make final preparations and conserve your energy."

Once the battle begins, I will have my guards fire arrows. Adventurers, if any of you have a long enough range, you may join the guards in firing first.

The remaining adventurers charged into the camp after a few volleys of arrows and wiped out the enemy!

"Was the previous grouping a waste of time? Wasn't this a bit too hasty?" A Black Iron-level adventurer couldn't help but question.

"Don't worry, everyone. According to intelligence, this is just a slightly larger camp of the Vulture Group. The leader of the Vulture Group is not here at the moment, so you Iron-level adventurers can handle them with ease."

As for the group division, it's just for easier command, but I see their camp's defenses aren't very good, and the intelligence doesn't indicate any particularly strong enemies, so just charge forward.

Looking at the confident sheriff, a hint of worry flashed through Lin Sai's mind.

I'm so sure I can easily defeat the enemy, but I always feel like something bad is going to happen.

"Scarface" walked over to Lindsay: "Lindsay, I think you're a very promising newcomer. Perform well, and we might see if you can join my team later."

Lindsay: "???"

The arrogant attitude of the "scarface" in inviting him made him somewhat unhappy.

But he didn't respond to the other party at all, and just brushed it off casually.

Linsel pondered to himself, "Are professionals necessarily stronger than non-professionals? Professionals have only learned combat skills; they might not necessarily be unable to defeat someone like me with my various monster abilities."

Since learning spell-like abilities from the fire goblin, Lindsay felt he might be able to compete with level 1 professionals.

Of course, he was also quite cautious and didn't show it. He just had a question in his mind: he hadn't figured out his true strength yet.

……

A few hours later, as darkness fell, the battle began!

Will drew his longsword and swung it forward: "Adventurers, follow me! Let's charge with lightning speed and break through those lousy defenses!"

The guards in the back row appeared on the hillside, along with several adventurers with bows. They drew their longbows tightly and fired at the bandit camp on the opposite hillside, a hundred or two meters away.

The other guards and the remaining adventurers rushed down the mountain and headed straight for the camp.
