Chapter 15 Vulture Corps Mission

"My name is Claire, you can also call me 'The Phantom.' You know, there's an underground casino in Linchui Town..."

Hmm? An underground casino?

Linsel had never heard of this before; it seems there are still many secrets in the town that are inaccessible to adventurers like him from the bottom rungs of society.

"There are often some very wealthy people playing there. I sometimes gamble there too. I can win money, and if I'm lucky, I can even win gold coins. But yesterday, I almost lost everything... Or, would you like to try your luck?"

"No," Lindsay refused.

He wouldn't gamble. Although he likes money, he doesn't have much to gamble with, and if he were to become addicted, it would be troublesome.

Lindsay examined Claire's leather armor. The armor was exquisitely crafted and conformed to the curves of her body, except for some damage on two shoulders.

"By the way, your leather armor isn't completely broken. You can take on a few quests to earn some silver coins before getting it repaired. There's no need to waste time here."

Claire pursed her lips and turned her head away. "Are you really not going to help me? Doing missions is really tiring, but it seems like this is the only way left."

"I don't care what kind of 'Phantom' you are or what kind of underground casino you are. If you have nothing else to do, get out of my shop and don't block my business!"

"Hearing that old Zain was getting impatient, Lindsay then walked out of the tailor shop."

Claire also slowly emerged.

"Do you have a squad, Iron-tier, uh, Lindsay?"

"no."

"Want to team up with me? I'll help you make money."

Lindsay stopped in his tracks: "You're not going to the casino, are you? I don't have much money, and I won't go."

"No, we'll just do adventurer quests. I'm a proper adventurer, a professional at that. I can easily take care of a newbie like you."

How did you figure out I was a newbie?

"Just go by instinct," Claire chuckled. "You'll naturally get a feel for it once you've been an adventurer for a while."

……

When Linssey arrived at the guild tavern, there were a lot of people gathered around the quest board today, and Claire was already waiting for him.

Lindsay arrived late because he said he had some things to take care of and asked the other party to wait at the tavern first.

After that, they went back to the tailor shop and asked old Zain about the details of the female vagrant.

"Claire, she's been in town for about half a year now, and she's come to my shop a few times to have her leather armor repaired. Apart from her love of gambling, I haven't heard of any other major problems with her."

After receiving Zane's information, Lindsay was finally relieved.

In this world where information is not very readily available, once an adventurer becomes famous, their deeds or misdeeds will spread by word of mouth, from one to ten, from ten to a hundred. Therefore, every adventurer is very concerned about their reputation.

Reputation is like a second life; few people would joke about their reputation.

"You've come," Claire said, sitting up from her chair. "I was just listening to that guard talk; he said there's a mission to suppress bandits and they're recruiting men."

"We're going to deal with the Vulture Gang. How about I go with you? The pay is pretty good."

"The Vulture Corps?"

Linsel recalled the word in his mind. Oh, he had heard it before when he killed that bandit called "Red Meat".

He approached the quest board, where more than twenty adventurers were crammed together, more than twice the usual number. Linsel even spotted two adventurers he had seen before: "Flat Nose" and "Scarface."

In the center of the surrounding crowd was a guard wearing standard cotton armor.

"Quiet down, everyone! Stop pushing!" the guard shouted. "Anyone who wants to sign up for the mission to defeat the Vultures, come stand in front of me."

"I'll participate!"

Count me in!

Linsley looked at these people; a few were Iron-level adventurers he had seen in the camp, but most of the others did not seem to be adventurers from the town.

"Let me say it again, the Vulture Gang is a notorious criminal organization with numerous strongholds and camps within the country, as I believe you are all aware of."

The mission is to raid a Vulture Gang bandit stronghold near Forestfront Town and destroy their camp.

The reward is 20 silver coins just for participating, and another 30 silver coins for successfully completing the mission. In addition, whoever kills the bandits gets all the loot!

Furthermore, regarding the restrictions on the mission, only adventurers of at least the Black Iron rank can participate, and they must also pass the screening by the Windwhisper City Patrol Officer.

"Why isn't there a quest log for this quest?" an adventurer asked.

"Because we need more adventurers this time, I only have this one quest book. But don't worry, the mayor has already negotiated with the guild."

Successfully completing a mission grants 10 points for Iron-level missions, 20 points for Bronze-level missions, and 30 points for Silver-level missions (if applicable).

"So, are you going to join?" the female vagrant asked from the side.

After a moment's thought, Lindsay asked, "Will we encounter monsters in this mission?"

"Good question," the guard suddenly took over Lindsay's question, a move that drew all the adventurers' attention to Lindsay.

Lindsay noticed that several adventurers stared at his wolf-head fur hat for a few seconds, then turned their heads away with some fear.

"According to reliable intelligence, there are no powerful monsters in the bandit camp, only some demonized wild dogs. But don't worry, they are not very strong."

Demonized wild dogs? Lindsay was intrigued.

"Okay, I want to participate."

After registering, the adventurers formed their own teams and, under the guidance of guild member Gina, headed together to the north gate of Linchui Town.

"Oh, this is that little hero, Lindsay, right? You've changed your gear again?" "Flat-nosed" greeted.

"Since we're all here for this mission, how about we form a team?" the goblin adventurer then extended an invitation.

"I'm currently teamed up with 'Phantom,' but you'll have to see if she minds first."

The two bronze adventurers looked at Claire together, with "Scarface" somewhat surprised.

"The Phantom? I didn't look closely. So you're that female thief who likes to steal from arrogant nobles and unscrupulous merchants?"

"Be careful with your wording. They don't need the extra money anyway, so this is called reasonable allocation... As for forming a team, we'll talk about that later."

……

Upon arriving at the North Gate of Linsai, they found several guards and a robust middle-aged man on a hunting horse already waiting for them at the city gate.

"Greetings, adventurers. I am Will, the patrolling sheriff of Windwhisper City. I will be in charge of this raid."

The man in chainmail dismounted and carefully selected the adventurers who had come to participate.

"You're too thin, you're eliminated!"

"Your equipment isn't up to par, you're eliminated!"

"No porcelain-grade, please! Didn't I tell you not to come..."

Sheriff Will eliminated a few people, and when he walked up to Lindsay, his eyes looked a little strange.

"Did you kill a dire wolf and make this armor?"

"Yes, sir." Lindsay nodded.

"Not bad, it's a Black Iron level, you passed!"
