Chapter 20, First Friend

Linchui Town, evening, Guild Tavern.

"Adventurers, we regret to inform you that, after investigation, you did not kill any bandits. Therefore, the extra reward for completing the mission has been cancelled, but the points will be issued as usual."

Gina announced expressionlessly, while the guild office was filled with adventurers who had completed the mission to raid the Vulture Guild's camp.

"You broke your promise! It was supposed to be 50 silver coins, but you only gave me 20. This doesn't match the mission reward!"

"Scarface" roared in dissatisfaction, and the office was filled with discussion.

"Did the sheriff come back and complain, and now they're withholding our reward money?"

"That's right, we also encountered an unexpected situation – ogres, monsters that only bronze-level adventurers can deal with. The guild didn't even mention it in the mission description!"

"Two Dark Iron adventurers died because of this ogre! The guild needs to give us an explanation!"

"Stop arguing," Gina took a document out of the machine. "I've already reported it to the Wind and City Guild, and that's how it was handled."

The sudden appearance of the ogres was an accident; such monsters can potentially become henchmen for humans, and the guild bears no responsibility for it.

A chorus of boos erupted in the office.

"I've been scammed!"

"Heartless!"

"Who cares about the interests of us lowly adventurers?"

Lindsay felt there was only a slight injustice.

He was indifferent to the guild's change in mission rewards; he just felt that this mission was actually somewhat dangerous.

Before the mission began, the guard confidently claimed that there were demonized wild dogs in the bandit camp, and he had high hopes for it. However, what he actually encountered was an cannibal.

Moreover, there were many suspicious points about this mission, but he was too lazy to investigate them in detail. Those things were the business of Sheriff Will and his gang, and had little to do with him, a low-level adventurer.

Anyway, now that the 20 shiny silver coins are already in the purse, that's enough.

Regarding my current points, I have 20 points. To advance to the next level, Bronze, I need 30 more points.

And so, they steadily grew, slowly making their way towards becoming Bronze-level adventurers!

Lindsay left the noisy guild office and went into the tavern hall, where he saw Claire sitting on a wooden table in the corner, drinking.

"Phantom, why aren't you inside demanding an explanation?"

"Tch, boring," the female wanderer said, taking a big gulp of rum, slightly tipsy. "Money is something you only need enough to spend. Having too much will turn you into a slave to your desires."

Lindsay walked up to her: "At least you've earned some money; you can go get leather armor repaired now, 'Phantom.'"

"Stop calling me by that nickname!"

Claire's cheeks flushed, a little annoyed: "Just call me Claire, Lindsay. Aren't we friends?"

"Uh, I guess so."

"I think you're extraordinary."

She sat up abruptly, grabbing Lindsay's leather armor from his chest and pulling it in front of her.

"Although you are of average appearance, your eyes are very beautiful."

Lindsay: "What do you mean? I don't understand."

"Literally, it means your eyes are different from any other adventurer I've ever met. It's not stupidity, not numbness, but something like, how should I put it, determination, and indifference..."

Claire's voice grew softer and softer, and she slumped onto the wooden table, seemingly asleep.

"Honestly, that was incredibly careless. How could he get drunk like that?"

Linsley walked over to the tavern owner, Rayland, and instructed him, "Keep an eye on this female adventurer; she's a bit drunk."

Rayland couldn't help himself.

"Ha, you want me to look after her? This woman has always had a high alcohol tolerance, Lindsay, are you kidding me?"

"Don't say it out loud!!" Claire's annoyed voice came from behind.

Linsset paused for a moment, then his face suddenly flushed.

cheated!

However, this can be considered as making my first friend.

……

The next morning, Linssey went to the tavern's quest log.

Linsel entrusted the ogre bone plates he obtained yesterday to Old Zane for safekeeping. Old Zane said that these things could be used to make armor parts for iron armor, so Linsel thought he would keep them for now, as they might be useful in the future.

His eyes scanned the various tasks already posted on the task list, carefully searching for a suitable one.

Claire suddenly disappeared in the tavern yesterday. Lindsay had just ordered a set meal and when he turned around, he found that she was gone.

Linsel didn't even know when she left the tavern. He only found out after asking the owner that it was one of her combat skills that made her presence very inconspicuous.

Let's ignore her for now and focus on doing quests, defeating monsters, acquiring monster abilities, and improving ourselves.

Silver rank, go to Duskwood; Bronze rank, go to Duskwood; Iron rank, go to Duskwood.

No, I'm already an Iron-rank adventurer, so I can try doing Iron-rank quests.

Lindsay noticed a newly released Iron-level mission.

--------

Mission: Head to Duskwood and destroy a recently appeared goblin lair. (Black Iron difficulty) 3 days.

Compensation: 8 silver coins and 6 points per person.

Note: The goblin population in Twilight Forest has increased again. A new goblin nest has recently been discovered. Please destroy the nest to reduce their numbers!

--------

Lindsay stared at the location of the goblin's lair drawn on the mission manual.

Isn't this the nest that the original owner found when he first transmigrated here?

This task suits me well, but I've already acquired the abilities of goblins, which are just low-level monsters.

However, considering the high probability of mutations in this type of monster, and the fact that there must be some new monsters on the outskirts of the Twilight Forest that he hasn't fought before.

You can try your luck.

Linsel was thinking of finding two teammates to go on this mission with him. He looked around and saw only two or three white porcelain-level adventurers nearby.

Claire isn't at the tavern...

Lindsay sat at the table, ordered a piece of black bread and a green salad for breakfast, and began to eat.

It's been almost a month since I transmigrated here. Time flies. I've gotten used to this black bread, and it doesn't taste as bitter as it did when I first transmigrated.

At this moment, other adventurers entered the guild tavern one after another.

"Little hero, it's nice to see you again."

A green-skinned figure walked out of the tavern entrance; it was "Flat-Nosed," followed by "Scarface."

"You're here so early, are you going on a mission? Shall we go together?"

This was the third time the two had invited him to team up, but Lindsay intended to accept this time.

He couldn't find any other suitable adventurers, and sometimes it was better to go solo if his teammates were too incompetent.

"Let me make it clear first, I will not undertake missions higher than the Iron rank."

"no problem."

"And isn't it a bit too few to just the three of us? Let's get another person. Also, I just saw a quest that involves destroying a goblin's lair, how about we do that?"

"Sure, little hero, we'd like to gain more points too."

The goblin adventurer readily agreed and greeted the several unfamiliar Iron-rank adventurers who entered the tavern.

"For the Goblin Nest quest, our [Sharp Teeth] team is one person short. We need a Black Iron-tier character."

"I'll do it." A familiar voice from Lindsay came over.
