Chapter 19 Cleaning Up the Battlefield

"That monster's dead, focus fire on the other one!"

Seeing Linsel slay the ogre, a dozen adventurers and guards swarmed forward and completely overwhelmed the remaining ogre.

"Well done, we won!"

Sheriff Will raised his blood-stained sword high, declaring victory, and a burst of enthusiastic cheers erupted from the punitive expedition.

Linsel opened the panel, and the three monster abilities of the ogres appeared before his eyes.

[Battle Cry: You can roar, causing mental shock to enemies with weak fighting spirit and inflicting minor mental damage.]

[Robust+: Constitution +4, Health +60]

[Ogre Plates: Hard, sturdy bone plates grow on the outer sides of your limbs and back]

All three abilities seem useful.

After a brief deliberation, Lindsay chose [Robust+].

The first ability is actually not bad, but he feels it's a bit too flashy and doesn't quite fit his current fighting style.

He didn't even consider the third ability. Although the ogre's bone plates were very hard, choosing it would probably lead him down the path of becoming a monster.

Lindsay still wanted to be human, or at least to appear to be.

Therefore, choosing [Robust+] is a prudent move. Firstly, the increase in body stats on the panel is real, and secondly, [Robust+] can be upgraded to the maximum level later.

Just like [Dark Vision++], which gains new additional effects when upgraded to the maximum level, [Robust] should also have a similar maximum level bonus effect.

He was really looking forward to it.

[Successfully selected [Robust+]]

The constitution attribute on the panel increased by 2 points, which made Linsel feel that his fatigue had been swept away and he felt extremely refreshed.

He opened the Monster Compendium in the panel.

Description: Threat level 3.5. A humanoid giant monster with skeletal plates on its body, possessing immense brute strength. They enjoy using this strength to crush anything that opposes them. With both ogres dead, the adventurers began cleaning up the battlefield.

Regarding the looting, nothing much was found in the camp; the only useful item was the bone plates from the ogres.

And because Linsel killed one of them, according to the adventurer monster material agreement, if it is a team effort not in a small group that kills it, then the killer can obtain half of the materials.

Lindsay obtained a total of 12 bone plates.

Sheriff Will removed his chainmail turban and wiped away sweat: "Now let us bury our fallen comrades, brave and respectable warriors!"

One person was seriously injured and five people died.

Several guards silently began digging a pit with shovels. The group moved the ogre's corpse away, and the three guards who had been crushed to death underneath, as well as the Black Iron-level adventurer who had turned into mincemeat, were all cleaned up and buried in the pit.

Jerry also died; his internal organs ruptured, and blood flowed everywhere. The adventurers shook their heads at the sight.

"He was too reckless..."

"I don't know where this kid got the courage from, but he dared to fight the cannibal head-on. Now that he's dead, he has nothing left."

The atmosphere was somewhat heavy. Lindsay turned to look at Claire, who was standing beside him, still casually fiddling with her dagger, and asked casually:

Can the dead be brought back to life?

"Can."

He was surprised to receive an affirmative answer.

"However, I've only heard that resurrection requires casting high-level divine magic, and only platinum or diamond-level priests, adventurers, or national archbishops can do it."

"Platinum-level adventurers? I've only ever heard of Gold-level..."

"You didn't know that?" Claire said in a humorous tone, "Adventurer ranks above Gold are Platinum, then Diamond, and the highest rank is Mythic."

It's normal for a newbie like you at the Iron rank not to know. We rarely even encounter Gold rank adventurers, and those above that are practically unseen, but they definitely exist.

"You seem pretty relaxed; you didn't exert yourself much during the entire battle..."

"You're talking nonsense," Claire said, somewhat annoyed. "I poisoned the ogre and even participated in close combat, unlike you who were just messing around..."

"Phantom, the sheriff is calling you over, and you too, Wolf-Headed Kid."

A guard approached Lindsay and Claire and gestured for them to go toward the camp gate.

Will summoned six bronze-level adventurers and Lindsay.

"I saw all seven of you contribute or get injured in the fight just now..."

The other three bronze-level adventurers all turned to look at Lindsay.

A bronze-level man wielding a bow said, "How did a black iron-level expert sneak in here? What did he do?"

"This young man shot an ogre in the eye with a crossbow bolt, creating a crucial attack opportunity. Isn't that a merit?"

Will emphasized, "I called you here to discuss the next steps, after all, the bandits haven't been wiped out yet..."

"The mission isn't finished yet?" Scarface complained. He had just been hit hard by the ogre's huge club and was not in good condition after using splints.

"What's going on with those two ogres? They couldn't possibly be that clever as to hide in Hay Mountain," the goblin adventurer asked.

"Quiet! Much of what we know about cannibals is still just speculation."

Here's the situation: my guards just found traces of someone passing by on the road leading from the camp to the Twilight Forest.

It shouldn't be too late yet; it was only a few tens of minutes ago. Strange, how come my guards didn't spot them then...?

"So, those bandits ran into the Twilight Forest?" the middle-aged adventurer asked.

"It's quite possible. I plan to lead you inside to search for it, since there's not much point in just breaching an empty stronghold."

"I object!" Scarface said. "The Twilight Forest has a complex terrain. Once those guys get in, it will be very difficult to find them."

"Yes, the forest has been in chaos lately, and there are more monsters. The most efficient way to search is to split up and search, but that's too dangerous. It's not worth risking your life."

"Flat-Nosed" continued his analysis: "We consider our mission complete once we destroy the bandit camp, but don't forget, our expeditionary force encountered ogres and engaged in battle!"

Lindsay also preferred not to seek out those bandits.

Now that the mission to attack the bandit stronghold is complete, you should be able to collect a generous reward upon returning to town.

All seven disagreed, and Will said helplessly, "Well... fine, without your support, my guards and I can't do our best to search. Now you can go and dismantle that camp, and then you can go back to town."
