Chapter 27 The Hammer Blacksmith Shop
Linsset arrived at the blacksmith's shop.
Under the large wooden shed with three sides open to the wind, he saw the dwarf owner of the blacksmith shop hammering a red-hot cast iron on an anvil with a blacksmith's hammer.
The dwarf was only up to Lindsay's waist, with muscles all over his body, broad and thick shoulders, and a long, brown beard braided into several thick braids. His bare, bronze skin on his upper body was adorned with patterns that Lindsay could not understand.
These dwarves truly looked as if they had been compressed from top to bottom.
"Jim, come in!"
The dwarf shopkeeper, with his deep voice, pulled the young man named Jim back from outside the shop.
"Teacher 'Iron Hammer,' what's up?"
"I'm busy, you come and talk to this guest..."
The dwarf known as "Ironhammer" saw Linsel standing outside the shop and his expression changed.
"Where did this werewolf come from? Get out!"
"Master 'Hammer,' look closely, I am Lindsay."
"Iron Hammer" wiped the sweat from his eyes, glanced at Linsel who had taken off his wolf-head fur hat, and his brow relaxed.
"It's you, kid. I didn't recognize you. How's that iron sword I made for you last time?"
"Your craftsmanship is superb, and the iron sword is well worth its price. I have already used it to slay many monsters."
"That's good. The equipment I forge with my 'Iron Hammer' is always top-notch! I never forge ordinary equipment. Whatever you want, as long as you have the materials and money, I can forge it!"
The dwarf "Ironhammer" was right. In the original owner's memories, the weapons and armor forged by this dwarf blacksmith not only fulfilled their original functions, but also often had other superior properties.
The iron sword Linssey used was a common piece from "Iron Hammer," but it had been tempered, making it harder than a regular iron sword, though it cost 5 silver coins more.
"So you want new equipment?"
Linsset shook his head and took out the longsword at his waist and the nose helmet hanging on his back.
"I'm here to sell equipment."
Upon hearing this, the dwarf boss picked up his hammer again.
"I'm busy farming high-quality gear right now, I don't have time! Go find Jim to deal with this junk."
"Adventurer, come inside with me."
Jim gestured to Lindsay, and the two went into the blacksmith's shop.
Upon entering the shop, Lin Sai looked around at the furnishings.
To the left is a staircase leading to the second floor. Below the staircase is a row of display cases containing small weapons such as swords and daggers.
Several shields hung on the central wall, and several pieces of iron armor were displayed on clothing racks. Several two-handed weapons were placed on the cabinet to the right, and other types of tools were stored in crates on the floor.
"Adventurer, I'm Jim, an apprentice at the 'Iron Hammer' blacksmith shop, and I also handle the shop's daily buying and selling. What would you like?"
Linsel stared intently at a two-handed sword, which was longer and wider, gleaming with a bright luster, and looked very sharp.
A two-handed axe next to him also caught his attention, reminding him of the parchment with two-handed axe combat skills he had obtained before.
Linsel had never seen any adventurer use these two-handed weapons before, and he could imagine that if they were used, their destructive power would be immense.
"May I try out the weight of this two-handed sword?"
"Yes, but please handle with care."
Linsset gripped the hilt with both hands and slowly lifted it up.
It was quite heavy; with his current strength, he could only barely lift it and couldn't swing it easily.
Once he has enough power, Lindsay plans to have a two-handed sword or a two-handed axe as well.
"How much does this two-handed sword cost?"
"40 silver coins."
Unexpectedly, the money was just enough.
However, Lindsay wouldn't use all his money to buy it, but if he had 50 silver coins, he would buy it.
He then pointed to a wooden fan-shaped shield on the wall and asked, "How much does this shield cost?"
"8 silver coins."
"It's a bit expensive, can you make it a little cheaper?"
Jim replied, "That's a hoop-shaped shield, that's the standard price, it can't be any cheaper."
Linsel looked closely and saw that the iron shield was simply a wooden shield with an iron plate wrapped around its outer edge and iron strips for reinforcement.
"How much does that long shield over there cost?"
"This is a kite-shaped shield, worth 10 silver coins, and it's also made of iron."
"What's the difference in defensive capabilities between these two types of shields, and the log shield?"
Faced with Lindsay's question, Jim thought for a moment and then said, "Well, first of all, they are all medium-sized shields."
The fan-shaped shield excels at close-quarters defense, the kite-shaped shield is adept at defending against ranged arrows, while the log shield offers a more balanced approach.
Lindsay's shield broke last time, but he decided not to buy another one for the time being. He needed some time to decide whether to buy a kite-shaped shield, a fan-shaped shield, or this iron-bound shield.
Lindsay then changed the subject.
How much can I sell these two pieces of equipment for?
Jim took the longsword and helmet that were handed to him and glanced at them briefly.
"The longsword is 2 silver coins, but the nose shield is a bit damaged, so I can only accept it for 1 silver coin."
"That's far too little."
"You can go elsewhere; secondhand equipment is about the same price. However, there are only two iron equipment shops in Linchui Town, and the other one, run by a human owner, offers even lower prices."
"How much will it cost to repair this helmet?"
Lindsay thought the nose shield helmet was actually pretty good. If it weren't for the special effect of the wolf head hat, he would definitely have switched to the nose shield helmet, which offered a higher level of protection.
Since it's still useful and wouldn't be worth much if sold, let's repair it and keep it.
And maybe old Zane can modify it again, combining his wolf-head fur hat with this helmet.
"The helmet only has some dents; the repair cost is 2 silver coins."
"Really? I'll go check with the dwarf master."
"You don't believe me?"
Jim suddenly called out to Lindsay, who was about to leave the shop.
"Why would I lie to you? Although I'm an apprentice of Master 'Iron Hammer,' I can also forge equipment. All the tools, farm implements, and ordinary weapons in the shop were made by me."
The two-handed sword you just picked up was also forged by me. My skill level is good enough to open a new blacksmith shop.
Linsel stopped in his tracks: "Alright, sell the longsword, and then fix this helmet for me."
"Two silver coins, and another two silver coins for repairs, just right..." Jim took out a ledger and began to record.
"No problem, you can pick it up tomorrow. It'll be brand new."
……
Afternoon, on the outskirts of the forest at dusk.
Lindsay arrived at the place where the ogre bone plates had been buried last time, carrying a large sack, and took all 20 bone plates with him.
As he walked through the woods, he bent down several more times to collect bonito grass.
Linsel was quick on his feet and managed to get ahead of the other Porcelain-level adventurers before leaving town, accepting the Porcelain-level herb gathering quest first. It was exactly the same as the one he had accepted last time.
Since it's free, I might as well do it and gain 2 more points.
Pozia grass is quite common in the Dusk Forest, and because he was more experienced this time, he quickly gathered ten plants.
However, these two things were just incidental; Lindsay's real purpose was to test his monster abilities.
