Chapter 3 The Tailor Shop in Linchui Town

A dozen minutes later, Linsset walked out of the edge of the forest.

Before him lay a flat wilderness, and in the distance, the town of Linchui shone with lights in the night. The sight of human settlements made him feel at ease.

At this moment, several men carrying torches and holding spears walked towards him.

"Who's that over there?"

Linsel moved the giant wolf skin that was obstructing his view from his shoulder and took a closer look. He realized that it was actually guards wearing uniform cotton armor who were patrolling outside Linchui Town.

[xxx, Human, Health: 60/60, Armor: 80/80 (Cotton Armor, Cloth-lined Hat)]...

The five lines of semi-transparent text in front of them flickered, and the health points of these guards were all between 50 and 65.

Lindsay identified himself to the guards: "I am an adventurer, and I am going back to town to submit a quest."

"Captain, look what he's carrying! It's a huge wolf pelt!"

A guard exclaimed, and then a guard who appeared to be the leader, holding a spear, cautiously approached Linsset.

"You're an adventurer? Show us your nameplate."

Linsset handed over his greyish-white nameplate, which the lead guard glanced at briefly by the light of the torch.

"It's a Porcelain-level Pokémon. Where are your teammates? And this Dire Wolf...you killed such a huge Dire Wolf?"

"Yes, it was the three of us White Porcelain level adventurers who killed them together, but they never made it out of the forest."

Lindsay, of course, would not reveal the whole truth to avoid arousing unnecessary suspicion.

"Good heavens! A Porcelain-level adventurer actually killed a mutated dire wolf! That's a target only Bronze-level adventurers can handle!"

"Didn't you hear me? This kid's entire squad was wiped out, and he was the only one who came back. But that's still quite an achievement!"

Several guards discussed among themselves, while the lead guard sheathed his spear: "Adventurer, I feel sorry for your teammate. You are lucky; even the outskirts of the forest are dangerous at night now. Go back quickly."

Linsset nodded and continued forward, under the somewhat incredulous gazes of the other guards.

Before long, he arrived at the gate of Linchui Town.

Outside the town was a stone wall made of rough stones, only three or four meters high, which looked rather thin in the night. Several guards with crossbows patrolled back and forth on the stone wall.

The town is not large; it's more like a large village. Because of its proximity to the Twilight Forest, it has a large flow of people, and many adventurers use it as a base.

Linsley showed his adventurer's badge to the guards at the gate and then entered the town.

The original body's mission to scout the goblin's lair has been completed, but Lindsay does not intend to go to the guild to collect the reward immediately.

He was injured and his clothes were tattered. He should sell the giant wolf pelt first, buy a new cotton or leather armor, get a good night's rest, and go to the guild tomorrow.

Linsset walked along the street, past the town market that had already closed up shop, turned at the intersection, and arrived at the tailor shop.

He gently knocked on the shop's wooden door.

According to the original owner's memories, the old owner of the tailor shop in town and the instructors at the guild training camp were on good terms with the veteran who adopted the original owner, and the original owner had known them since childhood.

An old man's somewhat impatient voice came from inside the shop.

"This store is closed!"

"It's me, Lindsay. I'm here to sell wolf pelts."

"Ahem...come in, the house isn't locked."

Linsset pushed open the wooden door and entered the shop. In the dim light of the oil lamp, he saw all kinds of clothes and armor in the tailor shop, which dazzled him.

An old man's hunched figure emerged from the inner room: "Kid, the tavern owner told me you joined a newbie team and took on a mission that's a bit beyond your capabilities. I'm a little worried..."

His deep gaze fell on the giant wolf pelt that Linssey had brought.

"Ahem... This is a dire wolf pelt. You little brat, you've really made something of yourself. It looks good, bring it over here."

Linsel laid the giant wolf pelt flat on the counter, while the old man pulled out a pair of reading glasses from under the counter, sat down on the wooden chair, and carefully examined the giant wolf pelt.

"Old Master Zane, how many silver coins do you charge for this wolf pelt?"

The old tailor named Zane was still examining the wolf skin, his hand stroking it back and forth before stopping at several scratches and holes.

"Thick dire wolf pelt, large and tough, and the skinning technique was good. It's a pity that these parts are rotten. It was originally worth 30 silver, but now I can only give it to you for 24 silver."

Lindsay was naturally delighted to hear that the giant wolf pelt could fetch such a price.

One silver coin has enough purchasing power for him to enjoy a decent meal at a tavern, or to eat black bread for more than two weeks.

"Sir, could you please buy a few more of this giant wolf pelt? How about 27 silver?"

"No," Zain said clearly, waving his hand in refusal. "I've been running this tailor shop for forty years, and I've always been fair in my dealings. 24 taels is already a very reasonable price."

Lindsay placed his hand on a cotton-padded, mesh-stitched military uniform on a nearby shelf.

"Sir, how much does this cloth armor cost?"

"8 silver coins."

"Can I have it?"

Zain coughed and refused, saying, "Our shop only does business, we don't give away anything."

"How about this gray corset?" Linssey asked pitifully, showing his tattered clothes to the old tailor.

"Look at Linsel, dressed like a beggar. He has to take on missions to make a living tomorrow and the day after, fighting those monsters. He might not come back any day!"

Zane's gaze swept over Linsel's wounded body and tattered clothes, and he finally sighed, "You brat... Fine, for old Sam's sake, take it."

The disabled veteran who adopted the original owner was Sam. Linsel remembered that the original owner often saw the two of them drinking together when he was a child. Now that old Sam was gone, the old man looked much older.

"You're so kind! If you need anything these days, just let Lindsay know, and I'll take care of it for you!"

Old Zain slowly stood up: "You little rascal, so glib-tongued! You thought you were so successful, but now you're down to your last piece of clothing."

"I do you a favor. Take those cotton armors down from that cabinet and give them to the instructors at the training camp tomorrow. Consider it payment for your labor."

"yes!"

Lindsay couldn't wait to put on his new clothes immediately.

Armor: 30/30 (Waistband)

The corset fit perfectly and was displayed on the panel, indicating that it offered some protection.

Old Zain took a sip of water from his wooden cup and continued, "Knowing your personality, it can't be as simple as just wanting a piece of clothing, can it? Tell me, what else do you want?"

Linssey scratched his head: "You found out... I want a leather armor, ten times better than these basic ones on the hanger, and I'll use the money for this wolf pelt to pay for it."

"Why don't you just say so? Oh, you want me to make leather armor for you, but you don't have enough money, you little rascal."

Lindsay walked over to old Zane and massaged his back: "The leather armor I want is the sturdy kind, not too heavy, with high protection, and comfortable to wear..."

"Hey kid, making a wish!"

"I haven't finished yet. It would be best if you could also make a leather hat, the kind with a lining, and pair it with leather boots and gloves."

The old tailor's figure became increasingly hunched.

"Kid, it seems you've grown old enough to bully old people. When my granddaughter, who's studying in the capital, comes back, I'll tell her she'll get what's coming to her."

He then took out a yellow ledger from under the counter.

"The accounts still need to be kept. The cost of materials and labor totaled 30 silver coins, which can be settled with the money for the wolf pelts. You still owe 6 silver coins."

If you also want the matching leather armor, well, that will cost an extra 10 silver coins, making it 16 silver coins. You can pay and pick it up in fifteen days. Also, come here, let me take your measurements…”
