Chapter 4 Training Camp and Guild

A wooden shed in a poor neighborhood in Linchui Town.

The morning sunlight streamed through the cracks in the wall, waking Lindsay.

The second day after I traveled here.

He rubbed his eyes, and the wooden bed he was lying on creaked.

Above were familiar yet unfamiliar wooden beams, to the left you could reach out and touch the wooden wall, and to the right was a large stack of hay, which took up more than half of the space in the wooden shed.

This used to be a hay barn, but now it's where he lives.

He opened the panel, and many things on it had changed.

After a night's sleep, he was already mostly recovered. Lindsay hadn't expected his recovery ability to be so amazing.

I don't know if it's because of my 7-point constitution or the healing items, but in any case, my body doesn't hurt anymore.

After feeling that he was alright, he removed the splint from his leg and took out a piece of black bread from the cloth bag next to the wooden bed and took a couple of bites.

A new specialization has appeared, [Spear Weapons: Beginner], which I probably learned after casually using a spear a few times yesterday.

Today I'll go to the guild to turn in the original character's quest and then accept a new one.

……

With several cotton armors tucked under his arms, Linsset arrived at the door of a tavern.

The Adventurers' Guild of Linci Town is actually located in this large tavern, which is the two-story building in front of Lince, the largest building in the town, constructed of a mixture of wood and stone.

However, he didn't go inside. Instead, he walked around the outside and arrived at the back door of the tavern.

The training camp is behind the guild tavern.

The camp was surrounded by a wooden fence, which divided the area into several sections and placed training equipment such as scarecrows and arrow slings.

At this moment, the camp was filled with shouts. Linsel saw that more than a dozen guards were doing morning drills, and there were also several adventurers practicing archery and combat.

He pushed open the wooden gate and placed the cotton armor on the wooden table by the door.

"Instructor Rhodes, Old Zane sent me to bring you the cotton armor!"

A tall, muscular middle-aged man, around forty years old, walked over.

"Oh, it's you, Lindsay. Just leave the clothes there."

The burly man in the black guild uniform is named Rod, and he is an instructor at the training camp in Linchui Town.

"Kid, looks like you were badly injured on yesterday's mission. Where are your two companions?"

"They encountered dire wolves and couldn't escape; they're stuck in Duskwood..."

Upon hearing this, Rod took out a pipe, lit it, and took a deep drag.

"Kid, don't put pressure on yourself. This is how adventurers are—they risk their lives to earn money."

It's a pity you three kids wouldn't listen yesterday. This Iron-level mission is difficult for you; going above your level is risky. I hope you remember that!

Lindsay nodded in response.

"Hey kid Linsel, since you're at the camp, why don't you give me a little practice?"

"Instructor, I need to submit my mission now. I'll come back later. Afterwards, I'd like to learn from you how to use a spear and shield."

Rhodes exhaled a puff of smoke: "What, not practicing swordsmanship anymore? Old Sam's swordsmanship is quite good, and you've learned it very well too. Specializing in swordsmanship is actually a good option."

"I want to try out what it feels like to use other weapons. If possible, practicing more can't be a bad thing."

That was indeed Lindsay's plan. He didn't have enough monster abilities in the early stages, so he needed to make good use of his free time.

Now that his spear weapon proficiency is displayed on the panel, he needs to practice and improve it.

He wanted to learn how to use a shield and master a shield specialty, since he always felt that using only a one-handed sword was a bit weak, and a sword and shield would be safer and make him feel more at ease.

Instructor Rhodes laughed and began to speak at length: "Looks like you've really grown up since this incident! You used to be quiet and just practiced your sword all the time..."

Learning to use a spear or a shield costs 2 silver coins each, guaranteeing you reach the basic level. After that, even a newbie like you can easily deal with two or three goblins.

Actually, for a novice adventurer, using a sword and shield is the easiest and fastest way to improve. Most importantly, the shield can protect your weak points...

……

Linssey entered the guild tavern.

The tavern was quite large, with more than twenty wooden tables and benches on the left, leaving a large open space in the middle. There was a small wooden door in front, and on the wall next to the door was a quest board for adventurers. On the right were stairs and a bar counter.

The tavern is usually busiest in the early morning and around mealtimes, but now that it's morning, it's almost empty, except for a middle-aged, portly owner wiping wooden cups behind the bar.

"Boss, I'm here to hand in my task!"

The tavern owner saw Lindsay approaching and shouted, "An adventurer has turned in a quest! Come down quickly!"

A young, black-haired woman wearing a green guild uniform hurried down from the second floor.

"Adventurer, let's go inside the cabin and talk."

She pushed open the small wooden door, inside which were several bookshelves and a desk; this was the Adventurers' Guild branch in Linchui Town.

"Nameplate? Mission sheet?"

Linsel took out three gray-white nameplates from his pocket, and then took out a roll of yellow paper mission book that he had prepared beforehand. He spread it out, dipped a quill pen in ink, and circled a location on the map on the yellow paper.

"This is the goblin's lair, probably right here."

He then took out three goblin ears from his purse and handed them to the other person.

After the female guild member confirmed the task, she stamped the task sheet and put it into an iron machine that resembled a printer.

The machine seemed to have scanned the task list.

"Lince, Tomley, and Jimmy, 4 silver coins each, plus 4 points each."

In the original owner's memories, guild points were accumulated. Reaching 10 points would allow one to advance from the lowest White Porcelain level adventurer to Black Iron level. After reaching 100 points, one could exchange them for some rewards at the guild in the city.

"I am Lindsay, you don't need to give them anything." Lindsay briefly explained the situation from yesterday.

"I see." The female staff member frowned and threw the nameplates of the two passersby into a small wooden box containing many black and gray-white nameplates.

"Goblins cost 60 copper coins, and recycling their nameplates will give you an additional 40 copper coins as a reward. However, I must remind you that the guild expects you to genuinely complete the quest and not do anything bad, such as harming other adventurers."

Our guild has an investigation team. If we find that you have committed any deception, we will take back your rewards, deduct points, and depending on the severity, you may even face legal penalties.

Lindsay stated that he had not cheated in any way, and that he would come to the task board after receiving his payment.

There are only four tasks left: one each for Silver, Bronze, Iron, and Porcelain levels.

Silver rank: Go to Duskwood; Bronze rank: Go to Duskwood; Iron rank: Go to Duskwood.

Only the white porcelain grade is excluded.

--------

Mission: Clean up the giant rats in the sewers of Linchui Town and bring back at least 10 giant rat tails. (White Porcelain grade) Deadline: 3 days.

Reward: 50 copper coins, 2 points, each giant rat tail can be exchanged for 5 copper coins.

Note: The number of giant rats in the sewers of Linchui Town has increased again. Please go and exterminate them!

--------

Lindsay accepted the task.

He was very much looking forward to it. What kind of abilities would the giant rat possess?

"Newbie, you took that giant rat quest?"

Lindsay turned around and saw the fat tavern owner speaking to him.

"This task is rather troublesome, so not many adventurers do it. If you go into the sewers, remember to bring a torch, it's very dark in there, and don't be too greedy."

Lindsay nodded his thanks: "Thanks for the reminder, boss. And a glass of ale, please!"
