Chapter 84 "Reporting the News"
The female knight ordered the guards to lie down.
If you take a few more steps forward from this distance, you might be discovered.
She gestured for Lindsay and the other adventurers to crouch down and slowly approach the cave.
"Beast Blood Woman, are you feeling better?"
Karina asked the female barbarian at the back of the squad, and Linsel realized that she hadn't said a word for the past few tens of minutes.
The female barbarian showed them her wound, which had already stopped bleeding: "I'm alright, I was just stabbed earlier, and I'm a little tired now."
"Don't push yourself too hard; it would be a real problem if you collapsed here."
The silver-ranked adventurer "Iron Spear," who was a few steps ahead, had already noticed something: "I can see the entrance clearly now. It looks like a few iron frames with something hanging on them..."
"Oh? Let me see..."
Lindsay also leaned forward to look into the distance, but his [dark vision] only allowed him to see in the dark; for distant objects, his vision was still the same as that of an ordinary person.
There was a slightly raised hill ahead. After the six people approached the hill, they peeked out slightly. From there, they could see clearly what was in front of the cave entrance.
But when they peeked out and saw the scene in front of the cave, they were clearly stunned.
The entrance to the cave was clearly another site of a cult's sacrificial ceremony, and several dead guards were hanging on the iron racks next to it!
"These scoundrels!" "Iron Spear" cursed under his breath. "Sir Knight, what's our next move? Should we just charge in?"
Karina took a deep breath: "Adventurers, you all know that the Wind and City Guards are limited in strength. No matter how much they train, they are only at the level of ordinary people, not professionals. Now we will have to rely on your strength."
You are all already Bronze-level adventurers, and most of you are probably professionals as well. I've decided that I will lead the guards in a frontal assault, while you will attempt a surprise attack on the enemy's cave entrance from the flank, but do not enter the cave for now.
Just disrupt their evil rituals and help the guards kill the cultists who appear.
"But we haven't seen any cultists outside yet?" Broken Arrow was a little confused.
"Don't worry. Based on our past experience with these cult members, they'll all appear as soon as they sense any movement around them."
What worries me more now is that the enemy is in the shadows while we are in the open; we don't know where they might suddenly appear from.
However, there's no need to worry too much. This cave has been investigated before; it can't hold too many people. For the Dakul cultists, numbers are their advantage.
As Linsel listened to the female knight recount her experiences, he suddenly thought of the green goblins he had dealt with before.
In some ways, these cultists seem somewhat similar to goblins.
"I can't wait any longer, let's start hacking!" The female barbarian adventurer suddenly became motivated.
"Then adventurers, each of you should do it in the way you are best at."
The female knight stood up and raised her shield, a gesture seen by the guards behind her, which was the signal to launch an attack.
So a dozen or so well-dressed guards, armed with spears, rushed straight toward the cave entrance.
"It's our turn..." Linsel took down the already cocked crossbow and prepared to aim, but he heard a sound behind him, followed by an unusual murmur.
He turned around and saw the "Beast Blood Daughter" fall headfirst forward!
A large area of the back of her head was sunken inward, looking bloody, and you could even see some whitish brain matter.
"Broken Arrow" and "Iron Spear" reacted quickly, leaping to one side to face the murderer between them.
There was a traitor among the adventurers; the one who killed the female barbarian was the blood-stained adventurer "Azure Chain" who wielded an iron chain hammer!
The other party didn't say anything, but just swung his chain hammer at "Broken Arrow". The latter instinctively lowered his head, and the chain hammer grazed past his head.
"Hooray!"
A deafening roar erupted nearby. Linsel pulled the trigger, firing a bolt from his pulley crossbow at the chain hammer woman while simultaneously glancing around at his surroundings.
From the nearby hillside, inside the cave entrance, and even behind the boulder, many cultists emerged and charged towards them.
The charging guards were also blocked by these cultists. The guards quickly formed a spear formation to deal with the dozens of enemies who rushed out.
"Azure Chain, why did you kill other adventurers? Are you a cultist?"
The female knight Karina, shield in hand, slashed at the chain-hammer woman with her half-sword. The latter had just been hit by Linsel's crossbow bolt and, being caught between the "iron spear" and the "broken arrow," was unable to dodge in time, resulting in a long gash on her shoulder.
The chain-hammer woman was slashed to the ground by the female knight, and the "Iron Spear" spear had already pierced her chest. She was laughing wildly on the ground, completely insane.
"Dakur already knows everything!"
"This woman is insane! She's a cultist!" With a flick of his long spear, "Iron Spear" destroyed the heart, killing the adventurer who had been corrupted by the cultist.
"Broken Arrow" breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing that the chain-hammer woman was dead, and began rapidly firing arrows in all directions with his longbow.
At that moment, several cultists carrying crude weapons were heading their way.
Linsel threw down his crossbow, drew his long-handled sword, and slashed directly at the two cultists who were about to rush in front of him.
Brand's sword slit his throat with a single strike! Another strike severed the arm of another man holding a weapon. The latter cried out in pain, but did not stop his attack. Instead, he lunged at Lindsay, pinning him to the ground.
puff.
Linsel heard the sound of a sword blade piercing through the back of his enemy. He immediately pushed the man away with all his might. It turned out to be the female knight's sword that had killed the cultist.
"Get up quickly! These enemies are just small fry!"
Linsel looked around and saw that the guards were fighting the cultists surrounding them, and the former were gaining the upper hand.
It seems these cultists are no match for the well-trained and well-equipped guards!
Just as Lindsay was congratulating himself on this positive outcome, "Iron Spear" shouted, "Something new has emerged from the cultist's burrow! It looks disgusting!"
Linsel looked closely and, sure enough, there were several monsters that looked like a mass of flesh and blood at the entrance of the cave.
These monsters resembled a mixture of human and the internal organs of some grotesque creature; the only recognizable human feature was their heads.
And claws, like arms, extending from their bodies, holding simple weapons such as wooden sticks and broken short spears, were slowly crawling towards Linse.
These things are disgusting. Is this what cultists are like?
