A writer has arrived in the Chinese entertainment industry.
Chapter 31 Comic Con
CP Exhibition, short for COMICUP Shanghai Comic Con, was founded on the Fudan University campus in 2008. At that time, it was just a small exhibition with only a few dozen booths and a few thousand people.
In just five years, by 2013, it had expanded into a large-scale comic convention with more than 600 booths and over 100,000 visitors.
This is not just a cosplay showcase, but also a hub for fan art. Artists, writers, and musicians gather here, and ordinary enthusiasts can directly encounter industry leaders and hear them share their experiences.
Of course, if you're lucky enough, you might bump into the "demigod of the mystery world," the "once-in-four-thousand-years beautiful boy in the literary circle," who's currently wearing a bodysuit and questioning his existence—that's Su Liu.
At this time, comic conventions weren't as nonsensical as they became later; everyone was still doing their cosplay in a serious manner. So when Su Liu appeared at the Everbright Convention Center wearing a yellow bodysuit and a woven bag, the noise within a radius of dozens of meters abruptly stopped.
"Chen Duling, you've really got me killed this time." Su Liu ignored the surprised, astonished, and even eager-to-take-a-photo-op gazes around him and complained in a low voice.
"You're the center of attention!" she said cheerfully.
Chen Duling changed into a black JK uniform today, with heavy eye makeup. Her outstanding looks stood out in the chaos.
When she left home in the morning, she dawdled and dragged her feet. Su Liu, who was wearing a suffocating yellow bodysuit, was like an anxious banana urging her on at the door.
"Um... hello?" A weak voice suddenly came from beside me.
Su Liu turned her head and saw a girl wearing a black and red Gothic Lolita dress walking towards her. She wore a Katyusha headband, black stockings, and a layered, ruffled skirt that was shorter in the front and longer in the back, making her look very lively.
"Hello," Su Liu replied instinctively.
The girl's eyes were filled with excitement, and a suppressed smile played on her lips as she asked, "Can we collect them?"
Stamp collecting? It probably means taking group photos.
"OK."
Although Su Liu is currently like a banana wrapped in a plastic bag, he has no reason to refuse a beautiful girl.
At that moment, he felt a chill in his right hand. Chen Duling suddenly took his hand, her slender fingers slipping between his fingers, and the two intertwined their fingers in an instant.
"Hmm?" Su Liu and she looked at each other.
"Let's go together," she said.
"Okay, okay," the girl in the lolita dress said with a smile, "You're so pretty, big sister. Are you cosplaying Enma Ai?"
"No, I just threw it on."
Chen Duling had cosplayed Enma Ai before, but this time she didn't have time to put on any costumes.
Su Liu looked her over with admiring eyes at her lavish attire and asked curiously, "So what did you wear?"
"Tokisaki Kurumi!" she said, taking two steps back, spinning around in place, and striking a classic shooting pose. "Eh? You guys don't know her?"
She's clearly a very lively girl.
After the three of them took a group photo, this "Tokisaki Kurumi" returned to her group. Su Liu looked in the direction she left and saw all sorts of cosplayers gathered together. The most eye-catching of them were a dozen or so uniformly dressed members of the Survey Corps, and Kirito, who was tall, short, fat, and thin.
Attack on Titan and Sword Art Online are the most popular anime series in the past two years.
Looking at the bustling crowd and various fan-made booths, Su Liu suddenly thought of something and burst out laughing.
Chen Duling looked at her with a puzzled expression. "What are you laughing at?"
"Back when I didn't know who you were, you said one day that you were going to a comic convention. The image that came to my mind was of a sleazy middle-aged man with a broken camera, looking for young girls to collect stamps with in the exhibition hall."
"What?! It's going too far to think of me as a pervert!" Chen Duling feigned annoyance. "Besides, everyone at the anime convention is nice, not like what you're describing..."
"Look, isn't that it?"
Chen Duling looked in the direction he pointed and saw a group of cosplayers dancing to otaku music. The surrounding audience cheered and took pictures with their phones, cameras and other devices.
Among the crowd, one person's posture was particularly arrogant. He was almost lying on the ground, holding up a 70-200mm telephoto lens and focusing intently from below.
He was secretly filming underwear.
"How disgusting!" Chen Duling frowned, instinctively shrinking closer to Su Liu. "Why doesn't anyone do anything about this kind of person?"
"People who do cosplay should have experienced this a lot, right? They all wear safety shorts, right?" After saying that, he looked at Chen Duling's legs, "Did you wear any?"
The latter glared at him and said irritably, "Of course I wore it."
"That's good," Su Liu stretched and breathed a sigh of relief. "I'm so thirsty. I didn't expect it to be so hot in here. Let's go buy some drinks."
"Okay, what would you like to drink?"
Because Chen Duling had been dawdling all morning, the two of them arrived late. Su Liu had driven all the way and forgot to bring two bottles of drinks with her.
We navigated through the bustling crowds, past the commercial exhibition area and some domestic animation booths, until we reached the corner of the floor. As the only temporary supply point in the entire exhibition hall, this small shop had a long queue.
Su Liu squeezed through the crowd with difficulty, carrying two bottles of cola in his hand. In the instant he turned around, he caught a glimpse of a familiar figure: that arrogant squatting posture, that iconic white telephoto lens.
I didn't mistake him for that creepy guy.
Is he filming Chen Duling?
Su Liu pulled her behind him.
"What's wrong?" Chen Duling asked, looking bewildered.
"Look there."
The man seemed to have sensed something, put away his camera, and nonchalantly went somewhere else.
This was the first time Chen Duling had encountered something like this. In the past, when she went to anime conventions, people would politely ask for photos. Before she became the "people's elected school beauty," she had never faced such paparazzi in her life.
"Ugh, what could he possibly photograph?" She adjusted her skirt. "My skirt is almost down to my knees."
"Maybe we're overthinking it," Su Liu said, unscrewing the can of cola. "Maybe he's just shy; there are plenty of people like that at comic conventions."
"If he had been more polite, I would have been willing to cooperate," Chen Duling said, still angry. "But what's the big deal about taking pictures without permission? Someone once uploaded my high school art photos to the internet without my consent, and it makes me furious just thinking about it."
Thinking about it carefully, the way that guy took pictures under the little girl's skirt doesn't seem like that of an upright person at all.
It's understandable that she'd be angry.
The CP exhibition has always had a "all anime fans are one family" atmosphere. The two wandered around various booths and doujinshi stalls, cheered with the crowd, and took photos with all kinds of cosplayers.
Su Liu's Jin Ke La cosplay outfit was the center of attention wherever he went. He was the busiest person along the way, and even Chen Duling was overshadowed by his brilliance.
This outfit makes going to the toilet so inconvenient! The designer clearly didn't consider this physiological issue at all! It's really unacceptable.
After spending most of the day shopping, Su Liu walked out of the restroom indignantly.
Just then, a thin man walked towards them from a short distance away, and Su Liu suddenly stopped. His attire, and the camera hanging on his body—it was definitely the voyeur.
Chen Duling is usually introverted and shy, but she becomes very active when attending comic conventions. Perhaps it's because of the "role-playing" aspect that she temporarily becomes someone else.
Su Liu was the same; wearing this Jin Ke La outfit, it was like peeling a banana, revealing his sense of justice.
In that split second, he raised his iron fist of justice and struck the perpetrator directly in the face.
The man was completely unprepared for this sudden turn of events. When he came to his senses with a scream, he only saw a yellow object covered with a bag of fertilizer rapidly disappearing into the crowd.
