The Black Bloodline of Hogwarts

Chapter 4 Derivative Charms of Black Magic

"So...you're the administrator of this...uh...so-called Magic Resonance Library?" Julien took a few steps closer.

After a long pause, the black cat finally spoke, its voice deep and languid, with a hint of French accent (probably to match Julien Sorel's accent):

"You can call me Murphy—not the Murphy from 'Murphy's Law,' but Muff—though you do often have bad luck. I am the librarian, librarian, cataloger, borrowing officer, and... the faithful recorder of your inner shame."

"What? What the hell is that last one you mentioned?"

"It means that whenever you have questions in your mind, you can write them down and find the answers for you." The black cat's voice was flat.

"Any problems?" Julien asked hesitantly.

"Remember! This is the Magic Resonance Library, meant to help you improve your magical abilities. I have absolutely no interest in your private life unrelated to magic, such as your memories of your relationship with that Rhea, or the time you peeped at the neighbor girl bathing when you were little, and..."

"Stop, stop!" Julien said urgently. "You said you had no interest at all, so how do you know so much?"

Seeing that the black cat had finally shut up, Julien breathed a sigh of relief and looked around: "So what exactly is this place for?"

Murphy jumped off the bookshelf, landing lightly as he walked, saying, "Simply put, whenever you truly understand a magical concept—whether through your brain, luck, or being scolded and cursed by your teacher—a book will automatically be generated here."

Murphy moved with the grace of a model, saying, "These books are detailed answers to the questions you care about. They are the echoes of your magic and the footprints of your growth."

"Great! Does that mean that after reading the book, I'll automatically learn all the magic I don't know?" Julien was a little excited. "How about we start with... a book on guardian spells?" What transmigrator doesn't know this?

"Or perhaps we could try the Occupy Central technique. It's not that every time traveler practices this first, but rather out of fear of encountering an unreasonable prop like the Sorting Hat or a perverted old man like Dumbledore spying on your thoughts."

It glanced back at him, a glint of disdain in its amber eyes, as if to say, "Tch, what makes you so special that others want to pry into your life?"

"The library simply provides you with what you can master, helping you accelerate the learning process and improve learning outcomes. For example, you can master the Levitation Charm through repeated practice without a library, but with the guidance of a book, you'll understand it faster, achieve better results, be able to levitate larger objects, and control it more precisely, and so on."

"If you're just trying to memorize by rote, or looking for something for nothing, the book will be blank. And..." it lowered its voice, "the more important the secret, the harder the book is to unlock. Like the book behind that door..."

Julien looked up and, sure enough, at the very back of the library, there was a large bronze door that was tightly closed.

"Could there be some kind of dark magic in there?" Julien rubbed his hands together excitedly.

"What, you think black magic is high-level magic?"

"What exactly is it?" Although Murphy's disdainful gaze displeased Julien, he still asked with a bow and scrape, adhering to the principle of being under someone else's roof.

"Don't rush, you're not at your level yet," Murphy said lazily, yawning as he lay on the ground.

"So now there's not a single book available, and I'm just supposed to wait around?"

Murphy rolled her eyes at him. "Alright, little wizards usually start with the Levitation Charm, so I'll let you look at this book first."

As soon as he finished speaking, a book appeared out of thin air on the bookshelf behind Murphy. The spine of the book even emitted a faint blue light.

"Great!" Julien quickly took the book down from the shelf—"Why Do Feathers Always Try to Hit Your Face?"

"Are you sure this is a book for practicing the Levitation Charm?"

"Definitely, certainly, and without a doubt."

This book was indeed a great help to Julien, not only pointing out the key points of practicing the Levitation Spell, but also being particularly targeted.

After that, Alphad, who believed his grandson was a magical genius, accelerated his teaching of Lian.

That night, the fireplace in the secret room was burning pine wood, and the firelight cast long shadows of the two people, making the shadows next to the fireplace particularly dark—so dark that they seemed to swallow the candlelight.

Perhaps it was just Julien's imagination, but he always felt that something was writhing in the darkness, like a sleeping giant slowly turning over.

Alphad didn't take out any basic spellbook as usual, but instead strolled to the oak wine cabinet and gently pressed his finger on the bottom of the third drawer.

With a soft "click," the hidden compartment popped open, revealing a notebook with a leather cover. There was no text on the cover, only a raised Blake family crest—a hawk-headed dog with outstretched wings and piercing eyes, as if it might pounce out of the leather at any moment.

"What I'll teach you starting today isn't what's taught in Hogwarts classes." The old man's voice was deep and solemn, as if he were recounting a long-forgotten family secret. "These are my notes from when I was young learning these spells; you can use them as a reference."

Alphad opened the notebook; the yellowed pages were covered with spell annotations written in ancient cursive English, alongside intricate wand-waving trajectories. Some places were even marked in red ink with warnings such as "Backlash is possible here" and "Do not cast more than three times in a row."

"The first one is the Shadow Deflection Charm, which belongs to the dark magic derivative charm 'Obscurum Flecto,' which is listed as an 'Unforgivable Charm' by the Ministry of Magic. I'll demonstrate it for you; please take your notebook."

Julien took the notebook upon hearing this, and the moment his fingertips touched the leather, a sudden "buzz" went through his mind—

"Ding! High concentration of dark magic knowledge detected. New book generated: 'Introduction to Shadow Deflection Charm: How to gracefully reflect curses back at your enemies without being caught by the Ministry of Magic.'"

In his mental space, a light had quietly lit up in the almost empty "Magic Resonance Library." On the bookshelf, a brand new book was slowly emerging, its cover as black as night, its gold-embossed title gleaming.

Julien's breath hitched slightly; he knew, of course, what dark magic meant.

Like all time travelers, Julien is not averse to dark magic; in fact, he is somewhat delighted and hopes for as much as possible, ideally starting with a max-level Unforgivable Curse, just like in fan fiction.

Otherwise, how would he take on Voldemort one-on-one later on? This makes perfect sense for a time traveler, right?

Seeing Julien's slightly strange expression, the old man explained, "Don't be afraid, child. Magic itself is neither good nor evil; the key lies in the user's intention."

“I’m not afraid,” Julien said, looking up with bright eyes. “I just thought that pure-blood families all started their education with the three Unforgivable Curses.”

Alfard's lips twitched: "Hmm? I didn't expect you to think that way."

He rubbed his temples, as if recalling whether he was also so immature and eccentric in his youth.

"My child, you must know that even without making Horcruxes, using the Unforgivable Curse will leave a person's soul broken and ugly—like a piece of cheese eaten by worms, intact on the outside but rotten on the inside."

"Hornets? What are Horcruxes? How do you get them?" Julien blurted out, his eyes filled with curiosity and a touch of foolish curiosity.
