Archer's Adventure Manual

Chapter 001: Adventure Manual

"This is your personal adventure manual. Please pick up the bow and arrow on the ground and begin your adventure."

"Survival Guide: Two goblins are lurking nearby and may attack at any time. Grab your bow and arrow and get into a fighting stance as soon as possible."

"Adventure Handbook...Survival Guide?"

Loran struggled to his feet, a flood of unfamiliar memories rushing into his mind. He had actually traveled from Earth to another planet...

The body's owner was named Loran, a wandering adventurer who came here to gather some herbs, and his memories ended abruptly here.

As Loran quickly processed the memories, he picked up the bow and quiver that had fallen to the ground, along with the small notebook with writing on it and a small iron knife.

The bow was ordinary and short. The arrows in the quiver were made of wood with stone tips, and a few white feathers were glued to the back of the arrows.

Looking at the notebook again, the cover reads "Adventurer's Handbook," and the first page contains the survival guide we just saw. The handwriting is very fresh, as if it was just written.

"Goblins?" Loran wondered. Since he had already experienced time travel, perhaps these creatures that only existed in novels and anime really did exist!

He slung the quiver over his back, gently slipped the small notebook into his pocket, picked up his bow, and cautiously looked around. He dared not gamble on the authenticity of the contents of the manual; it was best to be careful.

A rustling sound came from the bushes, and soon Loran spotted two goblins walking towards him in an open area about thirty meters ahead.

They are short in stature, with pointed ears, ferocious faces, dark green skin, and wearing tattered clothes. They hold wooden sticks, and one of them is carrying a dead rabbit.

"It's true what's written in the adventure manual." Loran's heart skipped a beat, and he swallowed hard. He was just an ordinary college student with absolutely no combat experience...

No, he didn't have it, but the original owner, Loran, did!

Fragments of memories replayed in Loran's mind. He couldn't recall them all in a short time, but he could still manage to act by relying on muscle memory.

The open space offered no cover, and the two goblins spotted Loran. Their faces lit up with greed, and they charged at Loran with their wooden clubs.

Loran pulled the bowstring with three fingers, bringing it to his chest. His left hand held the bow and swayed slightly, his eyes fixed on the goblin's chest.

After drawing the bowstring taut, he subconsciously loosened his fingers, and the arrow flew out, landing to the left of a goblin and embedding itself straight in the soil.

The arrow missed its mark.

Loran instinctively took a half step back, gripping the bow tightly with his left hand while his right hand began to reach for the quiver.

The cost of missing an arrow was high; the goblin had closed the distance, so he had no choice but to run backward to create more distance.

While running, he drew an arrow from his quiver, nervously aligning the nock of the arrow with the bowstring, then turned around to stand still, spread his feet apart, lowered his center of gravity, and drew the bowstring taut.

Aiming at the rapidly moving goblin, Loran subconsciously anticipated its movement, paused briefly after drawing the bowstring taut, and then released the arrow!

"call out!"

The stone-tipped arrow, pulled by the short bow, slammed into the goblin's chest. A crisp "crack" sound could be faintly heard, the sound of ribs breaking.

The goblin's charging body seemed to be held down by an invisible hand, its face contorted in pain, emitting a low "hoarse" sound, as if its throat was being choked.

It staggered back two steps, clutching its chest wound tightly with both hands. Dark green blood gushed from between its fingers, and finally collapsed to the ground, unable to get up again.

The surviving goblin stared in astonishment at its dead companion on the ground with its beady green eyes, its dark green skin taut with rage.

It dropped the dead rabbit in its hand, picked up the wooden stick with both hands, and staggered but charged towards Loran even more frantically.

Without the slightest hesitation, Loran drew the arrow swiftly with his right hand, the nock of the arrow securing the bowstring, the shaft resting firmly on the left side of the bow, and his three fingers naturally gripping the bowstring and the nock of the arrow. The draw was even faster than the first time!

The goblin was already very close, and he knew that what he needed now was not strength, but accuracy!

Loran kept his eyes fixed on the running goblin, cold sweat beading on his forehead. He only had one chance.

"Hey hey hey!" the goblin roared, swinging its wooden club as it approached Loran.

"call out!"

"thump."

Blood seeped from the goblin's neck, and it collapsed into a pool of dark green blood.

Upon seeing that the goblin was dead, Loran's legs went weak, and he collapsed to the ground, panting heavily.

Loran felt that if there had been a heart rate monitor, his heart rate would probably have been close to 200.

As he gradually calmed down, Loran took out the "Adventure Handbook" from his pocket again, turned to the first page, and froze.

On top of the original two lines of writing, several more lines of writing have been added!

"Combat Guide: You have hunted an E-rank goblin, gaining 2 Adventure Points; perhaps the goblin's teeth can be used to make sharp arrowheads | Unlocks the skill 'Precision Shot'"

"Battle Guide: You have hunted down an E-rank goblin, gaining 2 Adventure Points; the goblin had 3 copper coins hidden in its cloth pocket, which may be a reward for the hero | Unlocks the skill 'Cloud-Piercing Hand'"

"Survival Guide: If you want to acquire 'unlockable' skills, perhaps you can turn to the last page."

Loran was stunned. He had no pen and ink, but these few lines of text had indeed been updated in the adventure manual.

Although he didn't understand how it was done, since goblins had already appeared, a self-renewing notebook wasn't such a big deal, especially since it could help him.

Following the survival guide, Loran turned to the last page of the manual.

At the top of the last page—"Welcome to the Adventure Points Skill Shop. Current Adventure Points: 4."

First line, Precision Shooting lv.1 (unlocked at 20 Adventure Points): Unerring accuracy within 10 meters for 30 seconds.

The second skill, Cloud Seeker Lv.1 (unlocked at 20 Adventure Points): Touching creatures with your hand to plunder their copper coins will reveal certain weaknesses.

Adventure points can actually be used to buy skills in this little notebook? That sounds ridiculous!

He only has four adventure points right now, so he can't test its authenticity and has to put it aside for now.

Turning back to the first page, the handwriting had been updated again.

Survival Guide: A rainstorm is approaching. If you don't want to get soaked, find a large, lush tree to take shelter.

Loran looked at the sky. How could it suddenly pour rain when the sky was clear and blue?

But the next second, Loran noticed that dark clouds were approaching in the distance, slowly obscuring the sun.

"Damn it, are you even checking the weather forecast?!" Loran was about to seek shelter from the rain when he looked at the two fallen goblins. No, he had to loot them before leaving!

They pulled the arrows off the two goblins, put them back in their quiver, and then ransacked their clothes, finding five copper coins.

Finally, Loran looked at the goblin's big yellow tooth in its mouth. It was disgusting to use that thing to make arrows!

"Sigh, never mind." Loran took out a small iron knife, endured the goblin's bad breath, and picked off its teeth. After picking off just two teeth, he couldn't stand the stench anymore and decided to run away.

"Survival tip: There is a big tree to your north that will keep you dry."

"North?" Loran glanced at the manual and then at the sky above. Fortunately, the sun was not completely obscured, and he managed to determine his direction and headed north.

Sure enough, he hadn't walked far when he found a big tree. It was really big, and he didn't know how long it had been there. It was lush and verdant.

Loran leaned against the big tree, waiting for the rain to stop.

His current plan is to head to a nearby town for temporary safety. If he were to wander alone in the wilderness and encounter multiple goblins, his luck would not be as good as before.

In his spare time, Loran never forgets to consult the adventure manual. Following the instructions in the manual can at least ensure basic safety.

"Combat Guide: There is a large, severely injured dog nearby. It is incapable of basic resistance. Killing it will grant you a large number of adventure points. Try to find it."

Loran raised an eyebrow as he looked at the new writing in the adventure manual.
