Archer's Adventure Manual

Chapter 002: The Wounded Dog

"A lot of adventure points?" Loran began to calculate in his mind.

I just killed two goblins and barely got 4 adventure points. Reaching 20 adventure points to unlock skills is still a long way off.

Now that there's an opportunity to gain a lot of points, if he can master a skill, wouldn't his chances of survival before finding the town be greatly increased?

Furthermore, the combat guide states that this dog is not a threat, so why not give it a try?

Loran made a decision: he would go and take a look. He put away the manual, gripped his shortbow, and began searching the vicinity.

Leaving the shelter of the big trees, we were only covered by some small trees, which got us a little wet, but it didn't matter.

"Waaah..." A mournful cry mingled with the faint sound of pattering rain. Loran pricked up his ears to listen carefully and made his way towards the approximate location.

He quickly pinpointed the location, and after parting a patch of grass, Loran discovered a white figure—a large white dog covered in blood.

Loran was overjoyed. He had finally found it. This was an incredible fortune. With just a small arrow, this big white dog would turn into adventure points.

Loran raised his bow, but his right hand, which was about to take the arrow, paused slightly. He looked at the trembling figure lying under the tree and was momentarily dazed.

Lorraine remembered the loyal yellow dog from her hometown when she was a child.

Should we really kill this innocent dog for adventure points?

No... if he kills an innocent big dog today for adventure points, will he do something even more outrageous tomorrow for adventure points?

The adventure manual only provides better survival advice and guidance; whether or not to follow it is up to him.

Loran slowly lowered his bow, calming down.

It's really strange for a dog to appear in the middle of nowhere. It might even have an owner. Killing it rashly could create a feud with its owner.

After much deliberation, Loran decided to go up and take a look.

Upon closer inspection, the large white dog's injuries were shocking, with deep claw marks and bite marks, indicating that it had fought with some kind of wild animal.

"Woo woo woo~" A weak whimper came from the big white dog's mouth. It looked extremely weak. If left unattended, the white dog would surely die.

Loran took out his adventure manual. The contents were unchanged. He paused, then hesitantly asked, "I want to save this dog. Could you give me some guidance?"

"Would you like to spend 1 Adventure Point to actively obtain Survival Guide?"

Loran was somewhat surprised to see the words appear; he hadn't expected that he could actually interact with this manual.

"yes."

"Survival Guide: You can tear off a piece of tough birch bark and wrap it around the white dog's belly, then tie it to a vine and drag it away to a safe town. At the same time, gather some yarrow and apply it to its wounds. Birch trees are white, vines often twine around yew trees and are dark green, and yarrow has serrated edges and small white flowers."

Without much hesitation, Loran began searching for birch trees. Their white color made them easy to spot, and he quickly found one.

Loran touched it and found that the bark was indeed very thin. It wouldn't be difficult to tear it off, but it was important to keep it as intact as possible.

After collecting the bark, Loran found the green vines wrapped around the yew tree and cut them off with a knife. These vines were indeed quite strong and could be used for dragging.

As for this yarrow, in the original owner Loran's memories, it was used to pick herbs, so it shouldn't be too hard to find.

Sure enough, a yarrow plant was growing beside a path nearby, and it looked like a cluster of small white flowers.

After collecting the materials, Loran approached the big white dog and reassured it, "Don't bite my buddy, I'm here to help you."

He then tentatively patted the big white dog's head.

The big white dog was still conscious and whimpered twice, as if it understood Loran's words.

Lorraine began by crushing the yarrow and slowly applying it to the big white dog's wound.

The big white dog's body trembled slightly, indicating that it was in a lot of pain, but it still persevered.

Then spread the bark flat, place the big white dog on it, and roll the dog up like a chicken roll. Then wrap it around with vine and tie a knot.

A simple dog-dragging device was thus set up.

Loran dragged the big white dog to the big tree where they were sheltering from the rain, and waited quietly for the downpour to stop.

Opening the adventure manual, two more lines of text appeared at the top.

"Survival Guide: You have collected birch bark. Adventure Points +1"

"Survival Guide: You have gathered vines, Adventure Points +1"

"Survival Guide: You have gathered yarrow, Adventure Points +1; Good herbs may allow you to do more | Unlocks the ability 'Basic Herbal Crafting'"

"Survival Guide: If you want to obtain 'unlockable' 'abilities,' you might want to turn to the second to last page."

Loran was taken aback. He hadn't expected that gathering could also increase adventure points. This meant he would have a safe way to increase his adventure points in the future.

Furthermore, abilities have been unlocked, which, like skills, should be available through purchase with adventure points.

The heavy rain stopped, and Loran, dragging the white dog, set off.

The original owner, Loran, still remembered the route back to the town, but the memory was interrupted, making it impossible for him to determine his current location.

Moreover, the wilderness environments all look pretty much the same. If you can find a few landmarks first, you might be able to find the way to the town.

Loran constantly consulted the adventure manual to avoid unnecessary dangers; he couldn't afford any more trouble right now and just wanted to find a safe place for the time being.

Along the way, whenever there was a slight rustling of wind or grass, Loran would stop to observe, only to find that it was a small bird with colorful feathers flying by, or some kind of large insect stirring on a branch.

until...

"Survival Guide: There is a dead human nearby; he might have something good on him."

Loran's heart skipped a beat as he looked at the survival guide. Had he seen it wrong? A dead human?

Stopping what he was doing, Loran began searching the vicinity. Although the dead were a very creepy thing, finding something good on them would undoubtedly greatly increase his chances of survival.

Smelling the nauseating stench in the air, Loran also found the human corpse, which truly shocked this college student who had just transmigrated.

Goblin corpses are one thing, but humans are a completely different story...

Lorraine mustered his courage and, suppressing his nausea, slowly walked forward. He discovered that the human corpse was shriveled, shriveled... abnormally so, almost to the point of being a thin sheet of paper. In simple terms, it was just a human skin left.

Loran got goosebumps all over; to be honest, he really didn't want to get close to this guy...

After mentally preparing himself for a while, he slowly approached. Up close, he saw the terrified expression on the human skin, which looked so... eerie in the gloomy weather.
