Archer's Adventure Manual
Chapter 003: Fallen Rock Town
"Dude, I didn't mean to offend you..." Loran muttered to himself, and began to examine the valuable items around him.
He noticed a backpack underneath the human skin, which looked quite heavy. If it weren't for the backpack holding the skin in place, it would have been blown away by the wind long ago.
Loran carefully removed the backpack, secured the human skin with stones, and began to examine the contents of the backpack.
A shovel, a kerosene lamp, a rusty iron sword, a map, five silver coins, and a... skull?
Loran was startled and immediately threw the skull he was holding away.
After a while, Loran couldn't help but complain, "Dude, what do you do for a living..."
He opened his adventure manual to check if there were any dangers nearby.
"Survival Guide: You looted the remains of a poor creature, Adventure Points +3; you might get better at it... | Unlocks the talent 'Vulture'"
"Survival Guide: If you want to obtain 'unlockable' 'talents', you might want to turn to the third to last page."
"Survival Guide: Oh, I must say this is a very old skull. I wonder where it was dug up from. It might have great research value."
Looking at the various equipment in the backpack, he had reason to suspect that this guy was a tomb raider.
But none of that matters anymore. Why did this guy die? And in such a gruesome way, it's almost like something out of an anime. He was probably killed by some kind of monster.
The more Loran thought about it, the more panicked he became. He felt he shouldn't stay too long and was about to get up and leave when he stopped.
Looking at the gruesome corpse, Loran pulled out a shovel. After all, he had taken a bribe, hadn't he? He should settle the body in properly.
Loran dug out the soil and gently buried him, quickly turning it into a small mound, which could be considered as giving him a place to rest in peace.
Loran got up and left, taking the skull from the ground with him. Although it was a bit scary, he thought he could probably exchange it for some warm little money.
He took out the map from his backpack. The map showed a small town called Rockfall, and there was a landmark icon on the map: a big tree.
Hey, doesn't this tree look like the one we used to shelter from the rain? Now we have a reference point!
Loran can set off for Rockfall Town.
He arrived at the town smoothly without any major setbacks. People of various clothing and appearances were sparsely coming and going at the town's entrance.
Loran followed the group inside and saw the sign above the town gate: Rockfall Town. He had found the right place.
Two guards clad in iron armor stood on either side of the gate. They noticed Loran, who was about to enter the town, because he was too conspicuous.
Dragging an injured dog? That's really unusual.
The guard stopped Loran and asked, "Hello, are you in any trouble?"
Seeing the two guards blocking his way, Loran was not surprised and answered truthfully, "I am a wandering adventurer. While I was gathering herbs in the wild, I found an injured white dog and wanted to come to town to find a place to rest."
The two guards exchanged glances, and one of them said, "Alright, we'll register you. This is for your safety."
And so, Loran was led by the guard to a nearby wooden hut. The guard took out paper and pen, thought for a moment, and then asked, "You said you are a wandering adventurer. Do you have an adventurer's pass?"
"Uh... an adventure pass?" Loran rummaged through his pockets, but it seemed he didn't have anything else.
"Um... I think I lost it."
The guard, unfazed, said, "Oh, it's alright. The town's adventurers' guild keeps records. Just give your name and pay some extra copper coins, and you can get your adventurer's pass back. Register your name here."
Loran picked up the pen the guard handed him, then hesitated. He still didn't understand why he had transmigrated into Loran's body.
He could find many things in his memory, but he couldn't find anything about what happened when he went to the forest, but Loran was certain that something must have happened.
So, just to be on the safe side, Loran wrote his own name: Zhao Xin.
"Mr. Zhao Xin, for safety reasons, I need to check your backpack. Is that alright?" the guard continued.
Loran hesitated for a moment, but had no choice, so she handed the backpack to the guard.
The guard was startled as soon as he opened the backpack; a stark white skull came into view.
However, the guard had a strong mentality and quickly calmed down, continuing to search through the items in his backpack.
"An adventurer? Hmm... to be honest, your adventure gear is quite unique. If it weren't for the bow and arrow on your back, I might have thought you were a tomb raider," the guard teased.
Lorraine just smiled awkwardly and didn't say anything more.
The guards didn't make things difficult for Loran. They noted down the suspicious items in her backpack and then let her leave.
Loran dragged the white dog into town. According to the currency conversion ratio he remembered, 1 copper coins = 100 silver coins = 1 gold coin. His current 5 silver coins were equivalent to 500 copper coins, so he was considered relatively poor.
The town of Luoyan was bustling with activity, with various scenes unfolding one after another.
A blacksmith was hammering iron, a merchant was driving a donkey to carry goods, and bursts of laughter could be heard from the tavern from time to time.
The streets are not only filled with simply dressed humans, but also with some special people—creatures that only exist in anime and novels.
Dwarfs, yes, those very short guys must be dwarfs, about half the height of a normal human. That dwarf seems to be the blacksmith's assistant.
However, Loran was not interested in any of this; his immediate priority was to find a hotel to stay in.
"A night's stay at this inn costs 100 copper coins. If you wish to stay for an extended period, I will consider offering you a discount."
100 copper coins? That's way too expensive!
Loran inwardly scoffed, then turned back to continue searching for an inn in town, believing he could find a cheap one.
After much searching, Loran finally found a cheap inn, costing 20 copper coins a day, which was indeed very cost-effective, but the environment was less than ideal.
The room wasn't exactly messy, but the wooden planks showed signs of mold, and it was narrow and felt quite cramped, measuring less than 10 square meters.
Looking at the big white dog curled up on the ground, Loran couldn't help but feel worried. After all, she had only applied some simple herbal compresses, and she didn't know if it would be enough to save the little life.
I crouched down and carefully examined the white dog's condition. I found that its complexion was much better than before, which was good news.
Suddenly, Loran made an unexpected discovery: he noticed that the white dog was wearing a dog tag around its neck, something he hadn't noticed before.
"You have an owner?" Loran asked in surprise, touching the dog tag around the white dog's neck. Suddenly, she realized that the dog tag seemed to be able to be opened.
Slowly opening the brass dog tag, Loran discovered a yellowed piece of paper inside. He took it out and examined it closely.
"By the time you see this note, I will already be dead."
Loran: "??!"
