Archer's Adventure Manual

Chapter 004: Adventurers' Guild

"Hello, stranger. When you found this piece of paper, you must have already seen my adorable big dog, 'Brian,' right? My name is Old Mike, and I was his owner, but he's already dead."

"Brian was my companion on many hunting days and nights. He was a lively and capable dog! But time waits for no one. I was already in my twilight years, and I knew that death would one day take my life..."

"Stranger, if you don't mind, Brian can do many things for you. He is easily satisfied; the simplest black bread will make him very happy, and he is an excellent hunter."

"If this has bothered you, then I wish you all the best and ask you to spare this innocent little life—Old Mike."

Loran was slightly moved when he saw the contents of the paper. The dog had actually belonged to an old man, but that old man had already passed away...

Looking at Brian, the white dog lying on the ground, Loran suddenly felt that having another hunting helper in this world might be a pretty good thing!

You can earn more copper coins, but once you lose your life, it's truly gone.

He wanted to save the little life, so he packed his things and prepared to head to the adventurers' guild in town.

In my memory, adventurers' guilds always had shops that sold healing potions, which could heal a person's superficial wounds, and the same applied to dogs.

Loran patted Brian's head. "Buddy, you'll be alright. Wait for me to come back."

After leaving the somewhat shabby little inn, Loran inquired along the way and arrived at the square in front of the Adventurers' Guild in Rockfall Town.

In the middle of the square is a fountain, and around it sit adventurers of all kinds, who are... setting up stalls?

The stalls had all sorts of things: weapons, leather goods, books...

It seems like this kind of street stall business is pretty good, mostly catering to people who want to bypass middlemen and make a profit by trading directly. Of course, there are also quite a few scammers.

Crossing the plaza will take you to the Adventurers' Guild.

It was a very tall stone building with three floors; compared to the generally small buildings in the town, it was a behemoth.

The only decoration on the building is a wooden shield hanging above the main entrance, with a beautiful gold coin pattern engraved in the center.

Loran stepped onto the stairs, passed through the crowd at the entrance, and entered the guild hall.

The hall was spacious and grand, with quest notice boards on the left and right sides covered with yellowed quest assignment papers, and an adventurer's service desk in the middle.

Many adventurers dressed in leather armor and carrying iron swords stopped to look at the notice board, chatting and laughing.

Loran didn't go directly to buy the recovery potion, because showing his adventurer's identification would get him a discount!

Therefore, his immediate priority is to register an adventurer's certificate. As for his previous certificate, he doesn't plan to retrieve it. He is now a new adventurer: Zhao Xin!

The Adventurers' Guild is quite busy.

"Hello, I'd like to submit a task request." A brown-haired girl took out a task request form and handed it to the receptionist.

The receptionist checked the authenticity of the quest request and asked, "Please show me your adventurer's identification."

The girl handed over her ID, and after checking it, the receptionist directed her, "Please settle your commission with the gentleman next to me."

"Thank you." The brown-haired girl skipped over to settle her commission.

Loran glanced at the girl in front of him and felt that she was somewhat familiar, but he didn't pay much attention to it.

Soon, it was Loran's turn.

"I want to register for an adventurer's pass."

"Okay, what's your name?"

"Zhao Xin".

"Profession."

"Archer"

"You mean a wandering knight, right?"

"Yeah, right."

"Okay, your registration is complete. Your initial adventurer rank is Oak. You can increase your adventurer rank by completing quests. Please pay 10 copper coins as a registration fee."

Loran reluctantly took out 10 copper coins, though he really didn't want to do it, but he gave them to her in order to regain her discount on the potion!

Soon, a wooden plaque engraved with Zhao Xin's name was completed. Below the name, a simple line drawing of a shield was also engraved. The more shields there were, the higher the adventurer's level. This was the composition of the adventurer's certificate.

"If you have 10 shields, you can be promoted to the Rock-level, and you can be exempt from the certificate fee then," the young lady kindly reminded you.

Loran nodded. "Okay, thank you."

Having obtained his adventurer's pass, Loran chose to go directly to the second floor of the Adventurers' Guild, as it was a shopping area with shops selling potions.

Several pharmacies with similar decor came into view. Loran randomly picked one and went inside to browse.

On the shelf are rows of small bottles containing red solution; these are recovery potions. Just one small bottle can heal most superficial injuries—it's truly amazing.

Loran's eyes lit up as he looked at the price on the shelf: 500 copper coins.

Hmm, it's pretty much as I remember. Plus, with the adventurer's pass discount, he should have 470 copper coins left.

"Boss, I want this potion. Here's my adventurer's pass. Remember to give me a discount." Loran handed the boss his pass.

The stubble-faced shopkeeper took Loran's ID, looked at it, and muttered, "Newbie, huh? I can give you a 2-copper-coin discount."

Loran widened his eyes and questioned, "That's not right, boss. I remember that you get a 10% discount if you have identification! It should be 450 copper coins."

The stubble-faced shopkeeper chuckled. "Haha, a 10% discount? That's a perk only for Rock-level adventurers. You don't actually think that just because you're a commoner registered as an adventurer, you can enjoy all the perks of adventurers, do you?"

"Heh, I've changed my mind now. No discount of two copper coins. Your badge doesn't even have a shield on it, you've never completed a mission, you're not a real adventurer at all. 500 copper coins, not a penny less!"

Loran was taken aback. Oh no! He finally found a clue in the original owner's memories: it was indeed because he had once been a Rock-level adventurer.

Now that Loran is a newbie, he doesn't get the discount! He even lost 10 copper coins!

"Boss... can I pay on credit? I'm in a real hurry." Loran looked at the stubble-faced boss expectantly.

"roll!"

And so, Loran was kicked out of the shop in a sorry state. Now, he could only hope to take on some simple tasks to earn some money before returning.

Just as Loran was about to slink downstairs, a young girl rushed towards him.

"Lorraine! What are you doing here?!"

Loran looked up and was surprised to find that it was the brown-haired girl she had seen while queuing earlier.

"Duang~"

The girl sprinted too fast and couldn't brake in time, crashing headfirst into Loran's stomach.

Loran: "?!"
