Archer's Adventure Manual
Chapter 012: An Uneasy Night
After leaving the antique shop, it was getting late, and Loran estimated the time and prepared to return to his small, run-down inn.
Leading the big white dog, Loran returned the way he came and went back to his room very naturally.
...
Night falls.
Everything was eerily quiet. Brian's eyes gleamed in the darkness as he sat beside Loran's bed, intently guarding her safety.
Loran didn't dare to sleep too soundly, so he placed the Adventurer's Handbook by his bedside, so he could easily reach out and flip through it.
Just as Loran was flipping through the Adventurer's Handbook again, a sudden change occurred: a new line of text appeared in the handbook.
"Survival Guide: Something unknown is approaching. Your area is not safe. We recommend that you move to another location."
Loran's eyes widened. So it was true? He had been targeted after all?
He dared not make any movement now, and just stayed quietly in bed.
Running away is not a good option; even the slightest disturbance could accelerate the speed at which that thing discovers you.
After a long while, a commotion arose downstairs, but it soon subsided.
"Does that unknown thing still exist in the manual?" Loran asked himself.
"Would you like to spend 1 Adventure Point to actively obtain Survival Guide?"
Survival Guide: Your current area is safe.
Loran breathed a sigh of relief. When he returned to the hotel, he chose to book two rooms. He paid a mute child to book a room upstairs for him.
It's quite tragic to think about these children. They might be forced by their parents or they might be orphans who have been kidnapped. Their tongues have been cut out so they can do secret things for others.
Without a tongue, most secrets wouldn't be exposed. As for literacy? Very few ordinary people can read, let alone children. They don't earn much money either, so it's not worth investing so much.
Adventurers were aware of the existence of this shady area, but the nobles didn't bother with it.
Lorraine used this to his advantage, giving himself another room to choose from.
He went back to his original room and stayed there until nightfall, then quietly sneaked upstairs to his room and quietly moved to another location.
And wasn't that noise coming from downstairs? If he hadn't moved, he might have been in trouble...
So, is it a human or a monster? If it's a human, that's terrifying. It could be hiding anywhere nearby, or perhaps some kind of vampire-like creature that would suck people dry and turn them into mummies!
If he were a monster, how could he move freely in this town?
Loran patted Brian's head. "Brian, the rest of the night is yours. I need to rest for a while."
Brian licked Lorraine's palm, as if to indicate that he understood.
The sleepy Loran finally felt a little relieved and drifted off to sleep.
The distant tolling of church bells echoed through the town, signifying the start of a new day.
Loran yawned but still got up. He was going to the Adventurers' Guild this morning to confirm the hunting mission with Lin Wen.
"Let's go, Brian... never mind, Brian, why don't you get some sleep in your room?" Loran suggested, looking at Brian, who was also exhausted from keeping watch.
Brian hung his head, seemingly accepting the suggestion.
Loran then went to the Adventurers' Guild alone.
There's no concept of nighttime activities in the town, so people generally fall asleep very early and naturally wake up much earlier.
But for Loran, a transmigrator from Earth, it will take a long time to adapt...
There are many people at the entrance of the Adventurers' Guild. Many quests start in the morning, and this is the time when you can see the most energetic adventurers.
"Wow! It's Muland, the captain of the 'Granado Espada' squad! He's so cool!"
"The rumored strongest adventurer team in Rockfall Town truly lives up to its reputation!"
As Loran walked through the crowd, he heard many people exclaiming in surprise, and he curiously looked in the direction of the sound.
They discovered a group of adventurers whose style was distinctly different from the others; their equipment was excellent and gleamed in the morning light.
The team members are of different races: elves, orcs, and humans. More importantly, each member is either very handsome or beautiful. They have both good looks and strength.
Loran now understood why these adventurers were so enthusiastic. If this happened on Earth, they could easily debut as an idol group.
"Hey!"
Just then, Loran felt something tap his shoulder. He turned around in surprise and saw the brown-haired girl, Lin Wen, standing right behind him.
"You, when did you get here? How come you appear out of nowhere?" Loran was startled, but she still maintained her basic composure, perhaps due to the fighting instincts left behind by the original Loran.
Lin Wen crossed his arms, raised his head, and said proudly, "I'm an assassin. If you, an archer, were to discover me, would I still be able to keep my job?"
"Also, are you eyeing the pretty girls in Granado Espada? You seem quite engrossed in watching them?" Lin Wen then revealed a sly expression, full of gossip.
"Ahem, how could that be? I'm just curious, isn't there a human ranger with a bow and arrow in their party? Why would I hear rumors that their ranger is dead?"
Hearing Loran's words, Lin Wen looked at her with disdain. "You're just oblivious to what's going on around you. This ranger was just temporarily recruited into the team. The previous ranger was a half-elf! Not a human."
"I see. You see, I know so little about them. I'm sure I didn't have any feelings for anyone else." Loran shrugged.
"Tch, who knows if you're just pretending to be serious here. By the way, where's Brian?" Lin Wen looked around but couldn't find Brian.
Finally, she looked at Loran with a strange expression and questioned, "Did you abandon Brian? I knew you weren't that kind!"
As she spoke, she wanted to punch Loran in the chest with her little fists.
Seeing that things were going badly, Loran quickly pressed Lin Wen's head down, using his height advantage to prevent the guy's fist from getting close to him.
"Hey, hey, hey, don't get excited. Brian's sleeping at home. You can't just accuse him like that," Loran explained.
Lin Wen then slapped Loran's hand off his head and hummed, "Alright, let's get down to business. Their adventurer team's glory belongs to them. We have our own things to do."
And so, Loran followed Linwen to a crowded spot in the square, where the hunting commission would be discussed.
