Archer's Adventure Manual

Chapter 018: The Headless Monster

Lorraine left the antique shop with Brian. He needed to prepare for the upcoming hunting commission, so he would postpone having Thompson teach him about it for the time being.

Throughout the journey, Loran continued to keep an eye on the streets, looking for anything secretly watching him.

They then used the same method as before, booking two rooms to ensure the uncertainty of his location, and then switching rooms at night.

Back in his room, waiting for nightfall, Lorraine continued practicing his archery, carefully keeping the three poisoned arrows Mrs. Juno had given him.

The powder of the dried bone flower is transparent at room temperature, and only turns white when the temperature is slightly higher.

Therefore, these arrows look no different from ordinary arrowheads, but at crucial moments they can deliver a fatal arrow to the enemy without warning.

Loran, who was training in the room, was also keeping a close eye on Brian's condition.

Brian seemed to have returned to normal by now. He had stopped hiccuping, and his eyes had regained their clarity. He looked no different from usual.

As for what exactly happened to it, Loran had no idea and could only wait until Brian learned to speak before questioning him in detail.

Night fell silently...

Loran slept very carefully that night, but nothing bad happened, and the adventure manual did not issue any warnings.

Perhaps the things that were watching him have lost interest in him, or perhaps they are waiting for an opportunity; it's hard to say whether it's a good thing or a bad thing.

......

Meanwhile, deep in the forest under the cover of night.

"Ugh..." A handsome half-elf man named "Elfin" leaned against the treetop.

He clutched the horrifying wound on his stomach, took out a small bottle of red medicine from his backpack, and dripped it onto the wound, allowing it to heal slowly.

The pain almost made him feel suffocated.

He got separated from his team, but he didn't know exactly how.

It was as if I had been suddenly dragged into an endless abyss, and when I woke up, I found myself in an unknown place.

Even as a half-elf ranger with keen senses, he couldn't accurately find his way back to town, and he wasn't sure if there were any other towns around.

None of these are the most important things. The most terrifying thing is that a horrible monster is following him.

Elfin held his breath, trying his best not to let out a soft groan of pain.

Just then, the sound of fallen leaves being trampled rang out, and the keen-hearing Elfin immediately stopped all movement, not daring to move an inch.

As time ticked by, a headless monster appeared beneath the treetop where he stood. It had a humanoid form, wore an oversized leather coat, and carried a scythe.

Yes, this monster has no head, but it can move and even hunt down agile elf rangers like him.

Elfin was quite certain that this might be the mysterious Grim Reaper of legend, who came to judge the deaths of others...

But he didn't want to die.

"Oh... to be honest, it's really inconvenient not having a head. You little mouse, how long are you going to keep hiding?"

Just then, the headless monster spoke to itself.

Then he turned his body slightly to the side, facing Elfen above the treetop.

Even though it had no head, Elfin was pretty sure... this thing was watching him!

Fear swept over him like a tidal wave. Elfin darted through the treetops, continuing to evade the monster's pursuit.

"This is really... baffling." The headless monster chuckled and leisurely chased after them, scythe in hand.

......

It was early morning, the time for the hunting party to gather.

Loran carefully checked the equipment he was given before leaving.

Bow and arrows, quiver, knife, leather coat and hat, some spare food, map...

After checking everything, Loran let out a long sigh of relief to ease his tension, then took Brian and headed out.

Arriving at the plaza in front of the Adventurers' Guild, one finds that quite a few people have already gathered there.

"Hey, you're here pretty early. Are you feeling uneasy because you don't have any money in your pocket?" Lin Wen, who had also been waiting there for a while, nudged Luo Lan's shoulder and grinned mischievously.

Loran said indifferently, "So what if it is? Let me tell you, I have to kill a hundred rabbits today. I have a lot of burdens now. I need to eat, and Brian needs to eat too."

"Hmm, not bad, you're quite responsible!" Lin Wen nodded in satisfaction, patted Loran's chest with her little hand, and then grinned, "I'm Brian, I'll definitely love you to death!"

Loran felt a chill run down his spine and involuntarily took a few steps back. He felt that this girl's mind was becoming increasingly erratic!

"Oh dear, look how scared you are! Just kidding. I'm still a lady, right?" Lin Wen blinked her beautiful eyes.

"Mmm, mmm, whatever you like." Loran could only give a perfunctory reply.

Lin Wen crossed her arms and snorted coldly, "Tch, if it weren't for the fact that you were the one who brought Noah here, I, as the team leader, would have kicked you out first!"

"You, you're not satisfied even when I praise you, what do you want from me?" Loran complained helplessly.

Lin Wen pouted, "Hmm... your attitude isn't good."

Loran: "..."

A short while later, Noah arrived.

Noah approached, wearing a fur hat, thick leather armor, and furry boots. He looked very smart, but the most eye-catching thing was the large iron sword wrapped in vines behind him.

Compared to Loran's simple leather jacket and Linwen's barely-there hooded cloak, Noah's defensive capabilities were top-notch.

"Hey! Noah, you're here! You look so cool today!" Lin Wen was very happy to see Noah and went to greet him.

"Hey, Linwen, Zhao Xin, good morning. These are my old clothes, I haven't worn them in a long time. I think they should be enough for hunting," Noah said with a friendly smile.

Lin Wen exclaimed in surprise, "This is not just no problem, it's absolutely no problem! We're going to hunt rabbits, and with your thick leather armor, even if a wild boar charges at us, it should be able to withstand a lot of damage!"

Loran watched quietly as the humble and kind adventurer put on his act.

Hmph, a bronze-level adventurer must have gone through some dangerous trials, and he's been injured before. How could he be so kind and benevolent? It must be an act!

Today's hunting commission isn't primarily about hunting; it's about keeping an eye on this hypocritical big guy. He has to be ready to shoot this guy in the head with a poisoned arrow at any time!

Once the hunting party was mostly organized, Captain Vance, the leader, spoke up: "Is everyone ready? We're setting off! Stay close to me, don't get lost!"

"good!"

"Alright, let's go! Today's destination: Luoxi Village!"
