Archer's Adventure Manual
Chapter 036: The Language of Sequence Believers
Brian was visibly taken aback. After a moment's thought, he stuck out his tongue and uttered two sentences from the dog's mouth: "Old geezer, let's go kick those goblins' asses!"
Thompson was dumbfounded. Other rangers' pets would first learn various combat commands and such, but Loran's pets had a different art style.
Lorraine quickly pulled Brian behind her and said with a smile, "Brian's head has probably been filled with some strange things lately, don't mind it, but as you can see, I've taught Brian to talk."
Thompson calmed himself down and said excitedly:
"This is simply unbelievable! How did you do that? My goodness, you're a true genius among rangers! Did you know that rangers who declare their pet companions to the Adventurers' Guild receive a small bonus when carrying out missions?"
"Oh? I didn't know that happened."
"Yes, these are all things that those naturalist terrorists fought for; they advocate for a harmonious coexistence between humans and nature," Thompson explained.
"Naturalist terrorists? You mean...druids?"
"That's right, but that's not the point. Let me ask Brian what he saw that day." Thompson rubbed his hands together and asked expectantly.
Loran remained calm. "Don't be in such a hurry, Thompson. Didn't you say you were going to find me a ranger mentor? Look at this..."
Thompson paused for a moment, then readily agreed, "No problem, leave it to me. Just let me know what happened that day."
"Okay, Brian, why don't you talk to Thompson?" Loran patted Brian's head.
Then it was time for Thompson and Brian to talk.
Although Brian's words often contained some slightly vulgar language, this did not affect his description of the general direction of events.
Thompson also learned the whole story from Brian.
While Thompson and Brian were talking, Loran approached the skull marked with 20 gold coins.
He remembered how that old man Thompson used his clairvoyance, so he quietly took the magnifying glass.
As far as he knew, psychic vision was a trick, not magic. Even ordinary people could perform such tricks, although the process was quite complicated and required the use of mental energy.
However, for a ranger like him who is capable of using skills and has a fairly good spirit, using magic theory is perfectly reasonable.
He peered the magnifying glass at the skull and then activated his skill - Spirit Vision!
"Buzz!" A buzzing sound rang in Loran's ears, and his consciousness had descended to an unknown place.
His vision was completely dark and blurry; he could only vaguely make out the birth of a monster.
It was a strange magic circle drawn with indescribable lines, and a monster was slowly crawling out of it—a filthy and indescribable monster...
"God, ##&...descend...%#@"
A whisper echoed in Loran's ears.
The moment he heard those whispers, Loran's mind went blank, and a sense of dread washed over him.
Because the language used in this whisper was not the common language of this world or the Solot region, but a language he knew all too well—Chinese.
Another series of whispers came, the sound so dizzying that even though Loran could understand the meaning of the words, he couldn't make out the content of the whispers.
His consciousness slowly faded, and Loran could feel that he had fainted in the antique shop, but he was unable to regain control of his body and could only lie there quietly.
Thompson and Brian noticed his unusual behavior and were squatting down in front of him, talking to him.
"Oh my, you little brat, you can see things too? Tsk tsk tsk, who told you to look at this skull like that? But it's good, otherwise you would have thought I was faking fainting."
"Relax, it'll be over in a bit. Every magic trick has its pros and cons," Thompson said, shaking his head with a chuckle as he looked at the magnifying glass on the ground.
"Woof woof!" Brian pawed at Loran, clearly very worried about Loran's condition.
After a short while, the feeling of being detached from his body gradually disappeared, and Loran regained his mobility. Before he knew it, a cold sweat had already streamed down his cheeks.
Loran covered his head and slowly got up, still finding it difficult to calm his emotions.
"Thompman, you previously said that this skull is related to the Presbyterian Church believers, meaning that those strange murmurs are the language exclusive to those Presbyterian believers?"
Thompson nodded in agreement after hearing Loran's account. "That's right, but those bird languages are extremely complex. Even the most skilled language masters can't decipher them."
"Therefore, there are rumors and speculations that those believers use the languages of what they call other numbered worlds, which are not the languages of our world. So we have no way to decipher them based on any correlation."
"So, now you know that I wasn't pretending to be asleep that day, right? If you don't use your spiritual vision properly, it can easily backfire. The spiritual vision you used was probably not very high-level, so the backlash wasn't strong."
"The higher the level of spiritual vision, the more things one can see; however, the backlash will also become stronger, which will then become extremely dangerous."
Thompson said earnestly, "So it's best to use these kinds of tricks less often. A half-baked adventurer like you can easily fall for them. Only a professional like me can handle them."
"Thank you, I understand. How did your question go? Is there any progress in your rune research?" Loran suppressed his inner turmoil and silently kept this secret to himself.
Thompson looked dejected. "Although I learned what happened from this little guy, just as I suspected, the rune disappeared without leaving any clues, not even the dog involved!"
"However, I am not surprised at all. If an old man like me could figure out the runes, those scholars in the kingdom would probably have left long ago."
Brian seemed to have triggered a key phrase, exclaiming excitedly, "Smash their asses! Let's go kick their asses to pieces!"
Thompson gave Lorraine a strange look. "What have you been teaching him? I think you really need a good ranger mentor to guide you."
Seeing that Thompson was somewhat disappointed, Lorraine decided to tell him one more crucial piece of information.
"Thompman, Brian's physique seems to have changed. He was charged by a wild boar, but was unharmed afterward."
"What? A change in physical condition?" Thompson immediately realized and carefully touched Brian's fur.
Physically, it felt no different from other dogs, but Thompson was convinced that the runes must have brought about some special changes.
"Thank you for the information. I'm currently trying to confirm what the missing rune looked like. If you have any new developments, please let me know. I believe that given enough time, we will definitely find something!"
Thompson said earnestly and confidently.
Next, Loran and Thompson handed over the matters concerning the Ranger Mentor.
"This little box contains the money I returned to Mrs. Juno. Remember to give it to her. She knows a ranger named Lena. Ask her to introduce you to her; she'll agree."
Thompson handed a small wooden box to Lorraine.
"it is good."
