Archer's Adventure Manual

Chapter 045: Finita and the Trick

"Um... hello!" A voice suddenly rang out from the side, soft and unexpected.

Loran turned around and saw that familiar red-haired figure—it was Finita.

Finita held a book in her hand, her head lowered, and her face unconsciously flushed again.

Lin Wen looked at the woman in front of him curiously, then at Loran, and asked, "You, could you be the one who wants to join our adventurer team? That's great! What's your name?"

"I...I'm Finita. I'm trying to learn magic, but...but I can't cast spells yet. But, but I won't hold the team back, really. I know some small tricks, which should be of great help!"

Finita spoke nervously, while tightly gripping her white dress.

Brian naturally recognized his training partner and happily rushed over, circling around Finita and wagging his tail happily.

"Hey, are you here to join us on this adventure?! Welcome!"

Loran, standing to the side, seemed lost in thought. He still couldn't figure out how Finita had appeared; it was as if she'd materialized out of thin air. He leaned closer to Noah and whispered, "..."

"Hey Noah, did you see her walking this way?"

Noah thought for a moment and recalled, "No, but I remember she seemed to have been standing here the whole time... I glanced at her when I came in, but I didn't pay much attention. Maybe she just had a low profile."

"Uh...Is that so? Okay." Loran nodded thoughtfully.

Seeing the two having a private discussion, Finita felt a little nervous. She was unsure if she could join the adventurer's party; after all, as an inexperienced newcomer, she might very well be a burden to the team...

But she also wanted to share the burden with her sister. Teacher Lena had once said that she actually had talent, but her potential hadn't been realized due to a lack of suitable environment...

Perhaps the instructor's unspoken meaning was that he wanted her to train in the wild.

Just as Finita was lost in thought, Loran stepped forward.

"Finita, before considering you joining the team, let me introduce you to the members of our Dog Dagger Squad."

"This is Noah, he's very tall and is one of our team's warriors. This is Brian, our team's excellent hound. And of course, there's me, a very skilled archer. As for this hooded lady, she's just a minor assassin, there to make up the numbers."

Loran introduced her earnestly, but after noticing Lin Wen's murderous glare, she immediately added, "Of course, this little assassin is also an indispensable part of our team. She has strong leadership skills! Yes, really!"

Lin Wen then hummed twice in satisfaction.

"Hello, everyone!" Finita said politely.

Loran continued, "By the way, Finita, you said you know some magic tricks?"

Finita nodded seriously. "Yes, although I don't know magic, I've mastered some mental tricks based on magical knowledge! These tricks are very useful in certain situations!"

"I can show you!"

After saying that, Finita took out a monocle from her pocket and put it on. Then she took out a pinch of powder and sprinkled it on the monocle.

Under the influence of the powder, the lens actually floated with a faint green light!

Loran was all too familiar with this phenomenon; wasn't this the same kind of spiritual vision that Thompson and he had both used?

"Loran, your strength is at the mid-level of Apprentice; Linwen, your strength is... high-level Apprentice; Noah, your strength is at the mid-level of beginner, that's amazing! And Brian... um? Why can't I see Brian's strength?"

Finita stared at Brian intently for a moment, but finding nothing, she gave up.

Lin Wen opened her eyes wide with curiosity and asked, "W-w-is this magic trick?! It looks so amazing, it can even see our strength?"

"But what is the standard for this strength? How can you be sure that I have the strength of an advanced apprentice?" Lin Wen asked, full of doubt.

Finita explained, "This trick was invented by an arcanist a long time ago. It's simple and easy to use, and it can intuitively estimate a person's strength. He also set this standard for strength."

"The Adventurers' Guild also uses this trick to judge the strength of adventurers; it's a generally accepted testing trick. However, this is the lowest level. To detect higher levels, it requires the use of magic..."

Noah smiled and said, "If Miss Finita could help us assess the strength of the beasts during the battle, the safety factor would increase considerably."

"Oh, by the way, I've also mastered a few other magic tricks. Let me demonstrate them for you!"

Next, Finita demonstrated several more tricks: the burning trick "Ignite," which sprinkles powder to make a stick burst into flames; the healing trick "Heal," which sprinkles powder to slightly stop bleeding and heal; and the blinding trick "Flying Sand," which sprinkles powder to turn it into sand and make creatures' eyes uncomfortable.

"Survival Guide: You have observed a trick. Adventure Points +2 | Unlocks the skill 'Ignite'"

"Survival Guide: You have observed a trick. Adventure Points +2 | Unlocks the skill 'Healing'"

"Survival Guide: You have observed a magic trick. Adventure Points +2 | Unlocks the skill 'Flying Sand'"

Loran paused slightly as he looked at the prompt in the manual. This was a good opportunity; now he could also unleash his little magic trick.

Although these tricks are far from magic, they can indeed play a significant role in specific situations.

For Lin Wen, a young assassin who had never been exposed to magic tricks before, the visual impact of these tricks was incredibly impressive.

She looked at Finita with amazement and asked, "Finita, what is that magical white powder you sprinkled? How is it so magical? It can conjure up all sorts of magic!"

Finita replied shyly, "This isn't magic, it's a trick. It's different from magic. This powder is just flour, but it uses spiritual and magical knowledge to change some rules, giving the trick a vessel so it can be released more easily."

Lin Wen was completely confused. Although she didn't understand what was going on, she just knew it was amazing!

She quickly went over and took Finita's hand, smiling as she said, "I think you're perfectly capable of undertaking adventures in the wild! I approve of you joining us!"

"Um...really?! That's great! But...but while my magic tricks look pretty good, in reality, I might not be able to help at all in a fight..."

Finita said with some concern.

Indeed, these tricks are all auxiliary in nature, and the actual damage they can cause is very low, completely different from that of traditional mages.

Therefore, magic tricks are ultimately not a high-class skill.

Noah nodded in agreement, saying, "I think that works too. Actually, we don't take on any particularly dangerous missions. With your magic tricks, I think the adventure will be much easier."

Seeing that everyone agreed, Lorraine chimed in, "Brian and I agree too!"

"Thank you everyone!" Finita bowed, then smiled happily. "Please continue to take care of me in the days to come!"

"Haha, no need to be so polite. Since you're here with our Dog Dagger Squad, we're all family!"

"Woof woof!"
