Archer's Adventure Manual
Chapter 048: Beast Core
After leaving the training camp, Loran began preparing his equipment.
This wooden bow and the currently prevalent stone arrowheads are no longer sufficient; lightweight defensive equipment is also needed.
Oh, and this too.
Loran opened his backpack and looked at the yellow crystal. The manual said it was a beast core, a very precious thing.
I had been ignoring it for a long time, but now it suddenly comes to mind.
However, Loran doesn't know how to use this thing yet, but he believes someone definitely knows something about it.
Lorraine arrived at Thompson's antique shop, and this time he discovered an unusual customer.
An elegant lady was sitting in the antique shop, sipping tea gracefully, while a somewhat awkward-looking old man paced back and forth in the shop, seemingly at a loss.
"Mrs. Juno, what brings you here to visit Mr. Thompson today?" Lorraine asked curiously as she entered the store.
Juno smiled slightly, "Of course I came to check on him. I'm worried that he's too old and might be scammed."
Thompson retorted, dissatisfied, "I'm always the one lying to others; no one has ever been able to lie to me!"
"Hehehe, yeah, you're the best at lying. Sometimes you even deceive yourself without realizing it." Juno laughed even harder.
Thompson was taken aback, and wanted to say something in rebuttal, but in the end he just snorted and didn't respond.
Seeing this, Lorraine smiled knowingly. It seemed that things had gone very smoothly after their dinner together that day. However, he was still quite busy today and had important business to attend to.
"Thompman, I've come here to ask you to look at something for me," Loran said, getting straight to the point.
Feeling a little uncomfortable, Thompson immediately ran over when he heard there was something to do, rubbing his hands together and saying, "Come on, kid, what good stuff have you gotten this time? Let me see!"
Loran took the beast core out of his backpack.
"I'd like to ask, what is this thing used for?"
Thompson's eyes lit up when he saw the thing, and he immediately wanted to reach out and touch it, but Loran dodged him.
"Tch, stingy." Thompson waved his hand dismissively and said, "This thing in your hand is an extremely rare and valuable item called a beast core, something that many adventurers dream of."
"Oh? Why do you say that?" Loran asked, intrigued.
Thompson looked mysterious. "This involves a very crucial issue, but given the value of the content, it's a paid issue—only 1 gold coin!"
"Ouch!"
The next second, Thompson was kicked away by a slender leg; it was Juno who made the move.
Juno looked at Loran and smiled gently, "Let me explain. This crystal is a beast core, which exists in the bodies of some special beasts and can be embedded in weapons."
"Adventurers all hope to obtain a beast core because weapons inlaid with beast cores allow adventurers to unleash skills, which is extremely valuable to adventurers who cannot unleash skills."
"Releasing a skill means crossing the threshold to become a bronze-level adventurer. Even adventurers who have already mastered skills highly value it, as beast cores can make them more composed in battle."
Juno explained patiently.
Loran nodded knowingly. "I see. May I embed this beast core into the bow?"
Thompson, who had fallen sprawled on the ground, got up, dusted himself off, and poured cold water on his enthusiasm, saying, "You little rascal, you really know how to think. If it's inlay, how can a wooden bow be inlaid?"
Juno agreed, saying, "Indeed, in high-end adventurer teams, rangers are mostly positioned as support characters, and their combat power relies on pets to increase their upper limit. A major reason for this is that bows and arrows cannot be effectively inlaid with beast cores."
"But if you are using an iron weapon, then embedding a beast core is a very simple and natural thing. High-level adventurers usually display these embedded beast cores to show off their strength."
"If they are mages, they are confident in their magic and do not need the extra help of beast cores."
Loran took the bow off his back and asked hesitantly, "So, using a bow and arrow isn't enough to go very far on an adventure?"
"Hey, you got it right, kid. Looks like you're pretty smart." Thompson gave an affirmative answer, but Juno kicked him away again.
Juno explained, "As long as you use archery properly, the day you can truly become a high-level adventurer, you can learn magic as well. Magic combined with archery will be a very promising thing."
"Currently, the bow and arrow remains an invaluable choice for adventurers. It is quite powerful and can be used to attack safely from a distance. Even if one's mental energy is exhausted, one still has the strength to deliver a powerful attack to the enemy."
Lorraine thought for a moment, then nodded. "Yes, thank you, Mrs. Juno."
Mrs. Juno smiled faintly, "It's good that you understand. Getting back to the point, the fact that this beast core is yellow indicates that it is a crystal containing rock elements. Therefore, the skills that can be released should also be related to rocks."
"Even if you are using an iron sword, I would not recommend that you embed this beast core, because it is destined to be a defensive type of beast core, suitable for embedding in a breastplate, or as a pendant, as a talisman."
Lorraine looked at the yellow crystal in her hand, then at Juno, and said gratefully, "Thank you, Mrs. Juno, your explanation was truly very detailed!"
"Yeah, compared to some guy who likes to overcharge people..." Juno glanced at Thompson, who was rubbing his butt in the corner.
Thompson said sadly, "What on earth is going on here... It's one thing to just stay on someone else's turf, but to go and beat people up is simply outrageous..."
"By the way, Mrs. Juno, do you sell bows in your grocery store? I'd like to buy a new one." Lorraine hadn't forgotten another purpose of his trip: to upgrade his equipment.
"Hmm... I don't have a bow, but I have the materials to make a good one. You can use these materials to have Old Smith make one, and the same goes for arrows."
Are you free now?
"Well, of course, I was just bored and came to see this old guy. Come on, little one, I'll take you to find what you need," Juno said with a smile.
Juno led Lorraine away, and Thompson breathed a long sigh of relief. He couldn't help but inwardly praise Lorraine; finally, he'd seen this old man off...
Upon arriving at Juno's general store, Lorraine began selecting materials, and Juno patiently explained the advantages and disadvantages of each material.
Loran was constructing his imagination of the bow and arrow in his mind, and then he thought of the beast core problem that Juno had mentioned before. He suddenly thought of a kind of bow - the composite bow.
This modern bow and arrow from Earth is a product of human ingenuity. It is easy to use, saves effort, and can be equipped with a sight.
Install a sight?
If a sight can be installed, then can beast cores also be embedded?
