Chapter 058: Mental Derangement

Everyone stopped in their tracks and looked at Noah, puzzled.

Noah squatted down, frowning as he looked at the ground in front of him. The ground was somewhat dark, covered with dirt, and had scattered pebbles and weeds naturally placed in the four corners.

"There's something wrong with the ground ahead... I probably wouldn't have noticed it if it weren't for the firelight," Noah said gravely. "Are there any heavier stones?"

Lin Wen glanced around and spotted a stone. He picked it up and handed it to Noah.

Noah threw the stone forward, and the ground in front of him suddenly collapsed...

Below the collapse, several sharp wooden spikes stood upright. If a person were to step on the ground and fall in, the wooden spikes would likely pierce their body!

Everyone gasped in shock.

"This is... a trap?!"

"That's right, this must be the work of the kobolds. Perhaps under the guidance of the goblin shaman, these goblins reset the traps in this place," Noah analyzed.

Lin Wen was shocked. "Doesn't that mean it would be very dangerous for us to continue?"

"Fortunately, the kobolds' traps all have flaws, and as long as you are careful, you can avoid them. Besides, these are traps reset by goblins, which is not their forte," Noah explained.

The group moved forward more cautiously, wary of potential traps.

Fortunately, with the experienced Noah by their side, they easily spotted the small traps and made the journey uneventful.

At the end of the cave passage, there was a wooden door. Noah pulled on the door but found it wouldn't budge; it seemed to be locked.

Noah raised his greatsword and slammed it down on the wooden door, which shattered instantly, scattering debris across the ground.

At the same time, two goblins rushed out from behind the wooden door, brandishing wooden spears.

However, after taking only a few steps, two arrows accurately pierced their foreheads.

"Clatter".

The wooden spear fell to the ground, and the two goblins also fell straight down.

Loran and his companions also saw the scene behind the wooden door: a very spacious stone chamber, presumably where the strong goblin had rested.

In a corner of the stone chamber, five villagers huddled together, trembling and listless.

One of them asked in a trembling voice, "You...you've come to rescue us?"

"Yes, are there any other people here?" Noah asked calmly.

"No...that's all."

Upon hearing this, Loran and the others looked solemnly at the other exit of the stone chamber.

Yes, the stone chamber is not the final destination of this cave; there seems to be more to go ahead, as if the cave has no end at all.

Lin Wen peered into the darkness of the exit, but the firelight made it impossible to see the end.

After confirming several times, the group decided there was no need to proceed further; the five of them were likely all the captured people in the goblin camp.

Finita reassured the villagers, "Don't be nervous, you're safe now."

They then began to examine the villagers' injuries and used the magic trick "Healing" to give them simple treatment.

......

Loran led the villagers out of the cave, signifying the completion of this mission.

The five villagers, three men and two women, were dressed in tattered clothes, some of which were made from scraps from the goblin camp.

The experience during this period was like a nightmare for them. Like the panicked woman that Loran and his group had encountered before, they were somewhat mentally unstable and their speech was slurred.

Lin Wen stroked his chin, looked at the villagers' appearances, and said suspiciously, "Judging from their looks, they don't seem to be locals."

Loran stroked his chin. The residents near Rockfall Town all looked quite similar. As the saying goes, the local environment shapes the local people, so it's not hard to tell if someone is a local or not.

Furthermore, they also had some accents, which Loran and his group sometimes couldn't understand.

At this moment, Loran remembered the talent of language proficiency. Clearly, the original owner's memories of the common language of the Solot region were somewhat insufficient...

Loran has unlocked the Language Proficiency talent, which only requires 10 adventure points but is extremely useful.

He only needed to be exposed to these people's accented language for a short period of time to understand what they were talking about.

"No matter what, let's get them to a safe place first. I believe Fallingwood Village will accept these villagers," Loran suggested.

And so everyone began their return journey.

As Loran traveled along, he gradually became able to understand the villagers' conversations, but even if he could understand what they were saying, they were still talking in a mysterious and rambling way.

What a foolish goblin, with wings of evil, flying filth...

In short, various words were pieced together to form some very unrelated phrases and sentences, leaving Loran completely confused.

Just then, Loran suddenly remembered something: could the ring he found on the goblins have been the property of one of them?

"Gentlemen, I found a ring on a goblin. Could it belong to one of you?" Loran held up the ring and waved it in front of the villagers.

The five people stared at the ring intently for a while. Suddenly, one of them seemed to clear his eyes a little, and he said in a daze, "It seems...it seems..."

But then, he fell back into the same dazed state he had been in before.

"I don't know..."

Lin Wen blinked, glancing at the man who had seemed hesitant to speak, a strange feeling rising in her heart. "Their mental state is so unstable. What exactly did the goblins do to them?"

Noah shook his head uncertainly. "I don't know. Goblins are cruel and brutal. Every human they capture will exhibit various adverse mental reactions, but their condition is definitely a bit too much..."

Loran glanced at the man who had given her a slight response, then looked at the ring on her hand. Could this ring be his?

Looking at the patterns on the ring that were obscured by mud, Loran suddenly became interested. He took out a water bag, poured some water on the ring, and rubbed it with his hands.

Then the pattern appeared; it was a small, slightly curved wheat design.

Loran handed the ring to the man who had reacted earlier, saying in an accented voice, "Take another look. Is this your ring?"

"A...a ring?" The man carefully held the ring in his hands, his expression twisting in pain. He gritted his teeth and managed to utter, "Mary...Mary is still waiting for me in town!"

Seeing that the man had finally uttered a normal sentence, Lorraine quickly asked, "Which town is Mary in? Think quickly."

"Mary...Mary's here, I...I don't know!"

Seeing this, Finita was silently thinking of a solution when she suddenly interjected, asking, "Do you remember who forged this ring for you?"

A thoughtful expression crossed the man's pained face. He pondered for a long time before suddenly exclaiming, "It was...it was Roger Iron Anvil who forged it for me!"

"This, this is a gift from Mary. She said she wanted to find the best blacksmith in town, Roger, it's Roger!"
