Chapter 064: Random Thoughts on the Dream Cult
"The story goes something like this: the followers of the God of Dreams, known as the 'Sleepers,' sleep in every corner of the world, living in endless dreams."
"But they don't want to stop there; they want to lull even more people into a deep sleep, into their beautiful dreams!"
"Under the control of the sleeper, some people exhibit symptoms of an intense longing for dreams. They become completely uninterested in daytime activities, but become incredibly excited when they enter their dreams at night."
"Over time, these ordinary people also became believers in the god of dreams. In the end, no one could escape the fate and they were all trapped in an eternal dream, and the world order collapsed as a result."
Thompson chuckled as he recounted the story.
Loran was filled with doubt. "Is this...is this really just random talk he made up?"
"Haha, of course not entirely. It's adapted from the legend of the ancient god of dreams. The story is mostly based on the legend, and the young priest only made some minor changes to it."
"Legends and tales? Does the God of Dreams really exist?" Loran asked curiously.
Thompson shrugged. "According to the legends, the God of Dreams should exist. He does have a group of followers, but at that time, the followers of the Sequence Church were at their peak, and many church members could not survive. Some even lost their faith..."
"The followers of the God of Dreams are no exception. Some even speculate that the Pre-Dawn Church murdered the God of Dreams, so to this day, only the legend of the God of Dreams is passed down, and there is no real Church of Dreams."
Loran thought for a moment, then asked, "How did the legends come about? Wasn't the tradition of faith broken off?"
Thompson chuckled. "Yes, the Sequence Church has a strong influence on the world, and most of the faith traditions have been broken. However, we have some experts who possess clairvoyance."
"Unlike the Sequence Church, the language of the Dream God Cult is a local language, so there is no problem of translation. The scholars of the kingdom have roughly deduced the existence of this myth by some clues left by the Dream God Cult."
"Of course, this also has great limitations and may not be true. Therefore, many people who are interested in this history will use their own wild imagination to write a perfect ending to this story, just like that pastor."
Loran nodded thoughtfully, then said with a sudden realization, "I see... Thompson, do you think the Church of Dreams has the potential for a revival?"
"Well... nobody can say for sure. Even if the Church of the Order was powerful back then, our human civilization still survived, didn't it? So who knows what will happen to the few remaining members of the Dream God Cult!"
Upon hearing this, Loran was basically certain that the Dream Cult existed! Otherwise, there would be no way to explain his experience last night.
Although Loran only encountered a few villagers who might have been trapped in a "dream" during his adventure, as the saying goes, if you find a cockroach in your bedroom, then your house is probably teeming with cockroaches in every crack.
The Dream Cult did not begin its clandestine activities because of his arrival; they have clearly been active all along!
But if the Dream Cult could so easily infiltrate ordinary people and bewitch them into being forever asleep in their dreams, how come no one has discovered it all these years?
After all, he discovered the clues of the dream as soon as he entered it. There are so many people who are addicted to the dream, is it really possible that no one noticed?
Even if some people discover it but are unwilling to speak out, aren't there some determined individuals among them who will expose the Dream Cult?
Maybe so. Perhaps Thompson just doesn't know, or perhaps the Dream Cult has concealed this information through some means.
Or perhaps...
Loran's eyes narrowed. He could clearly distinguish between dreams and reality, possessing a unique quality unlike anyone else... His soul was that of a transmigrator, but the memories of his dreams belonged to the original Loran...
He was able to suddenly realize the reality of this dream, but what about others?
Perhaps others, after unintentionally leaving that little dream, arrived in Dream City. When trading their chips in the shops, they were in a hazy, dreamlike state, believing from beginning to end that it was a dream, a dream that couldn't possibly affect reality...
When the dream ends, how many people will remember?
Loran recalled the reactions of the villagers in Luolin Village. They had returned to normal, but they hadn't mentioned anything about the dream. No one knew what had happened to them.
Loran sighed inwardly. To be honest, he didn't think it was a good thing that he, as a time traveler, could see through some things.
Sometimes, not knowing something might have no impact at all... but knowing it will more or less affect the person involved.
This applies to the matter of the Sequence Church, the Shadow of Death, the Chinese characters for the Sequence Church... these are all facts that Loran cannot avoid.
"You wouldn't be interested in these gods and magic, would you? My advice is to stay away from unorthodox methods. Those gods are far more cunning than you think," Thompson said kindly, seeing Loran lost in thought.
Lorraine chuckled and shook her head. "Of course not, I was just curious. Thanks, Thompson."
"Haha, it's rare to see young people like you who are interested in history from many years ago these days. Cherish this knowledge, you never know when you might need it."
"Besides, even if you don't actually need it, you can still use it as a topic of conversation with others. To be honest, Mrs. Juno was very receptive to this approach back then. I'm passing on my most precious secret to you, so you'd better make the most of it!"
Loran looked at Thompson with some surprise. "Well, old man, your swindling skills are truly impressive. I knew I hadn't misjudged you."
"What do you mean by cheating and swindling? This is the art of language!" Thompson blew on his mustache, looking quite unconvinced.
Lorraine shrugged, chatted with Thompson for a while, and then left the antique shop.
After leaving, Loran prepared to replenish his arrows. Having witnessed the number of goblins in the goblin camp, he had already considered the possibility of running out of arrows.
We handled this situation relatively well, but what about the future?
You see, an archer without arrows is like a bird without wings, so Loran wanted to replenish his supply in case of emergency.
He also wanted to find out if the arrows recovered from the corpses still had the same power; some arrowheads showed minor deformations, while others looked almost brand new.
Previously, they used stone arrows and hunted harmless animals like wild rabbits. The original owner, Loran, didn't pay any attention to these things and only replaced them with new ones when the arrows broke down.
But now Loran's usage scenario is completely different, so the quality of the arrows still needs to be paid attention to.
He arrived at Old Smith's blacksmith shop, which was bustling with activity as usual.
"Mr. Smith."
Upon hearing Lorraine's voice, Old Smith's face immediately lit up with joy. He quickly had his assistant take over his work and then went to Lorraine's side.
"Loran! I have good news for you!"
