Archer's Adventure Manual
Chapter 073: Knights and Fiefs
As the dream faded, Loran opened her eyes to embark on a new day's journey.
Today is the day to carry out the assigned task.
Loran arrived at the Adventurers' Square early to wait.
Many adventurers have already begun to appear in the Adventurer's Square; they are all adventurers who have accepted quests and are waiting to gather.
However, Lin Wen and the others were not seen here.
"Looks like we're the first ones here today," Loran said to himself, stroking Brian's dog head.
"The early bird catches the worm," Brian said, sticking out his tongue. It was a saying it had overheard, and now it felt it was very fitting for the current situation.
Loran chuckled. As time went on, Brian seemed to be getting smarter and smarter, well, mainly because his master had taught him so well!
While waiting, Loran glanced around the square and spotted a familiar figure—Elfen.
Elfin and his teammates assembled, coincidentally, Elfin's squad was also on a mission assignment today.
A very impressive carriage appeared on the street, with two horses in front of it, their thick black hair and exaggerated muscles, clearly indicating that they were valuable and expensive horses.
Watching the carriage slowly leave the town, Loran couldn't help but sigh, "So this is the mode of transportation for high-level adventurers..."
Before long, Lin Wen and the others appeared one after another in the square, all full of energy.
"Wow, you're here so early today, even earlier than me! Hmph, you've successfully stirred up my competitive spirit. I'll definitely be here earlier than you next time!" Lin Wen said with a look of dissatisfaction when he saw Luo Lan who had arrived early.
Loran shrugged helplessly, "How can you be so childish?"
"Hey, who are you calling childish! I'm just competitive. Don't talk nonsense if you don't understand!" Lin Wen pouted.
"Alright, alright, you childish brat."
"You're the childish one!"
After chatting for a while, the adventurer team was all present. As before, they boarded the carriage, heading to their destination—Inada Village.
Upon arriving at the stable where the carriages were parked, they told the horse groom their destination, and the horse groom kindly estimated their arrival time.
"Inada Village is quite far from here. Even by horse-drawn carriage, it would take eight hours, and that's just an estimate. The terrain along the way is hilly, and sometimes we'd have to take detours!"
"It takes eight hours! And it's so far away!" Lin Wen complained.
"Hey, it's not actually that far. I've met a lot of adventurers here, and many of them have been traveling for more than 12 hours to reach their destinations," the horse groom explained.
Noah smiled and explained, "Indeed, good missions don't come around all the time. Even if the journey takes a long time, some missions are still very worthwhile."
"Yes, that's right, that makes sense." The horse breeder agreed wholeheartedly. "Let's set off. You might be able to reach Daotian Village by the afternoon."
And so the carriage set off.
Having learned from the previous experience, this time Loran, who was driving the horses, simply took out two bags and put them over the rumps of the two horses to prevent them from shooting indiscriminately.
"Inada Village, judging from the name, does it have a lot of rice paddies?" Loran asked curiously as he urged his horse on.
"Yes, I did some research before I left. Daotian Village is a village in Hama Town specifically for growing grains, and the farmland there is very extensive!"
"In order to improve the efficiency of grain production, a large part of the land in Inada Village has been granted to some knights. As long as the knights increase the productivity of the land, they can get a considerable profit, and then the tax revenue will naturally be substantial."
"After the knights take over the fiefdom, they will naturally recruit serfs and commoners to work. The population demand in Inada Village is high, and densely populated and resource-rich places are easy targets for monsters."
"Monsters like goblins frequently raid the nearby villages, and kobolds also steal food from time to time. In order to protect their interests, the knights issue quests to adventurers to help them."
Listening to Lin Wen's explanation, Luo Lan suddenly realized that the administrator of Hama Town was quite clever and had come up with such a solution.
They can enjoy the profits from the land without having to worry about the troubles associated with it.
Finita asked, somewhat puzzled, "Those knights with fiefdoms must be very powerful, right? Why don't they personally go and eliminate those monsters?"
Noah scoffed, "Those knights? Heh, they don't have that ability. The title of knight is hereditary, which means that the current knights' titles were passed down from their ancestors."
"And this means that no matter how weak the descendants of those ancestral knights are, they can inherit the title of knight and the fiefdom. Of course, they are not capable of solving the monster problem on their own."
"However, they can use the resources at their disposal to get adventurers like us involved."
Finita nodded, seemingly understanding, "I see. So how can an ordinary commoner become a knight and own their own land?"
Noah shook his head. "It's almost impossible. Knights can only be granted, like the Warren nobles of Rockfall. They have their own fiefdoms, so they can grant knighthoods and fiefdoms."
"But to be granted the title of knight, one needs to make a great contribution, at least in name, which may be the only way to have a chance to be granted a title and a fief by the nobles."
"Opportunities for making significant contributions often arise in turbulent times, such as wars between kingdoms, struggles between lords, or battles for survival between monsters and territories..."
"It's too difficult for ordinary people to get opportunities. Even if they do get one, they have to make a huge contribution to ensure they can survive."
"Adventurers are good too. As long as we are strong enough, we will naturally gain the respect of nobles, and we enjoy freedom. Although knights have their own fiefdoms, they are also subject to the nobility."
Noah said calmly.
"Yes! Then let's get stronger and earn the respect of the nobles!" Finita responded eagerly.
Upon hearing this, Loran's mind wandered to other things.
It's worth noting that the original owner of Loran's father was also a knight. Does that mean that Loran has the right to inherit the title of knight?
However, the original owner of this body, Loran, was unaware of this at the time. While studying in Plassen, she received news of her father's death and never returned...
However, the title of knight didn't seem to be of much use, so Loran didn't think about it any further.
