Archer's Adventure Manual
Chapter 075: Who exactly are you?
"It's delicious! Why is it that other breads aren't as good as this, even though they're all bread? I ate the part without jam..." Finita looked at the bread in her hand, very puzzled.
Loran readily explained, "Cooking is also a skill. By doing something for a long time, you can master the skills and change the rules of the world, just like adventurers like us."
"The same applies to making bread; using skills can make bread taste better."
"I didn't know there was a skill involved in cooking! I've learned something new!" Lin Wen exclaimed, taking a bite of bread to calm her nerves.
Just then, Brian put down the bread in his mouth and started tugging at Lorraine's trouser leg with his mouth.
Loran felt Brian tugging at him, looked down, and saw Brian's dog head gesturing for him to look in a certain direction.
Loran looked in the direction Brian was looking and frowned slightly, because he saw an old acquaintance—Elfin!
"Why is this guy in Inada Village too?" Loran muttered to himself. What a coincidence to run into this guy. This didn't seem like a good thing at all.
Lin Wen and the others also noticed Loran's unusual behavior and looked in that direction, where they saw the half-elf ranger with a head of golden hair.
"Is that Erfen? What's he doing here?" Lin Wen asked in surprise.
Finita guessed, "They must have received a mission from the same place as us, but I wonder what their mission is."
At this moment, Elfin was laughing and chatting with his team members as they entered a tavern. Like Loran and the others, they probably wanted to have a meal and a drink.
"It's getting late, the sun will be setting soon, let's go back." Lin Wen finished the rest of the bread, not taking Elfen's matter to heart.
After all, it's not uncommon for adventurer teams to meet.
There were no electric lights in this era, so people generally went to bed early and could rest after sunset when it got dark.
When the rooster crows, you can get up and set off.
The guards protecting the granary would light oil lamps or build a bonfire to illuminate the surroundings and prevent thieves from stealing food in the dark.
Loran returned to the room and said to Brian, "Brian, don't let your guard down. The lookout duty tonight is yours."
"Don't worry about it, leave it to me, woof!" Brian said confidently.
Loran drifted off to sleep peacefully.
In his dream, after practicing archery, Loran decided to improve his cooking skills. To train his "Fragrant Cooking" skill, he first had to choose a food to cook.
So what food should you choose?
Baking bread requires sufficient temperature, which is too troublesome, and adventure locations are often in the wild where this isn't possible...
Therefore, barbecue became the top choice for Loran.
Loran, who was being mentored by Melt, easily obtained several rabbit cheek pieces to practice roasting.
"Lorraine, we have excellent cooks who prepare delicious food for us, so we don't have to lift a finger," Mylt said, somewhat puzzled.
Loran casually replied, "Roasting helps cultivate our mindset; patience and calmness are basic qualities of an archer."
"I see, I've learned something!" Mylt said in realization.
Then Loran was surprised to find that Melt had also set up a fire and was roasting a rabbit with him.
Loran was somewhat helpless. Oh well, things in dreams are all fake anyway, so let him do whatever he wants.
However, just as Loran was quietly grilling the food, the scene before him suddenly changed. A wooden ceiling appeared in Loran's eyes, and he was surrounded by darkness.
His wrist was still a little sore, and he realized that a dog's mouth had bitten it.
Lorraine immediately realized something was wrong; it seemed like Brian was waking him up!
He immediately straightened up and looked around warily, but there didn't seem to be any strange people or objects in the room.
"Brian, what did you find?" Loran lit the oil lamp and asked Brian in a low voice.
Brian didn't speak, but instead sniffed the ground with his dog nose, his expression quite complicated.
Loran was puzzled, not understanding what Brian was trying to say.
"Woof woof..." Brian barked twice and shook his head, looking like he had made a misunderstanding.
"Okay, buddy, you really scared me to death." Lorraine breathed a sigh of relief, surveyed his surroundings in the firelight, and listened quietly for any possible noises.
Even if there was no one in his room, he had to be vigilant because Lin Wen and the others were staying next door, and he didn't want his teammates to get hurt.
"Brian, you said you have a very keen sense of smell, so I trust your judgment. Even if it doesn't seem like anything now, it's always good to observe a little longer. What kind of smell are you detecting?"
"Lorraine asked Brian curiously."
"Woof...woof woof." Brian barked a few times.
"Hmm?" Loran was a little puzzled. Why was Brian communicating with him in his native language all the time? Wasn't this guy's language system already updated?
Loran frowned. He stared at Brian intently. The dog was still the same dog, with its憨憨 (simple and honest) appearance, but he had an indescribable feeling in his heart.
With a thought, the phantom of the Adventure Handbook appeared in front of him, allowing him to check the latest page messages.
"Combat Guide: You have attracted the hostile 'gaze' of something."
Loran frowned almost imperceptibly, and his hand shrank back under the covers...
"Whoosh!" A throwing knife flew out at an extremely fast speed, its target being Brian!
"Thud!" The throwing knife pierced Brian's body, but the expected scene of bleeding did not appear. Instead, a strange smile appeared on Brian's usually docile and obedient face.
Brian's deep voice came through, "Interesting...you actually found me!"
The next second, Brian pounced, his sharp teeth aimed straight at Loran's neck.
Lorraine remained calm and picked up an iron dagger from beside the bed.
"Steel...Slash!"
He, an archer, displayed combat skills that novice warriors could be proud of!
The dagger's hardness increased dramatically in a short time, and the sharp blade slashed towards Brian.
Brian's sharp claws crumbled the moment they touched the blade, and the powerful cutting damage instantly left horrifying wounds on Brian's body.
However, there was still no trace of blood flowing...
Loran looked at the heavily injured Brian with a grave expression, and asked through gritted teeth, "Who exactly are you? Where did you hide Brian?"
