Archer's Adventure Manual

Chapter 077: Falling Rock Trap

After discussing it, the group finally chose the left-hand entrance, as it was the most likely route for the kobolds to enter and exit.

Finita lit the torches to illuminate the surroundings, and the group began to move more cautiously.

Based on what he had learned from Instructor Lena, Loran kept observing his surroundings and spotted a small tripwire not far ahead.

"There's a trap ahead," Loran whispered.

He then drew his bow and arrows and used them to trigger the tripwires on the path ahead.

"Snap!" The tripwire broke, but nothing happened.

"Nothing happened?" Lin Wen asked curiously.

Finita guessed, "Instructor Lena said that kobolds are very cunning creatures. Sometimes, in order to save costs or wear down the enemy's patience, they will set up some fake traps."

"Adventurers also have to expend energy dealing with fake traps, because we dare not gamble on whether these traps are real or not."

"These guys are really troublesome," Loran complained.

Clearing out kobolds is far more difficult than dealing with goblins; it's like attacking a well-defended fortress...

Every now and then, tripwires would appear at the front of the passage. Just as Finita had said, some of these tripwires were fake, and some were real.

Once triggered, several spikes flew out from the side; these were small mechanisms designed by the dog-headed people.

"Hey, look, there's a box over there!" Lin Wen noticed a box next to the passageway, which looked like it was full.

You can even see some silver coins overflowing from the pile, this box is a real box full of goods, very tempting!

Just like in those adventure novels, where you kill monsters and get treasure, who could resist opening a treasure chest in such an environment?

Of course, Lin Wen and the others weren't fools.

Noah threw a large rock over, and with a scraping sound, the stone slab slid down, revealing the hideous spikes underneath, and one could vaguely see many withered white bones on the spikes.

"There really were people who fell for it." Lin Wen was slightly surprised when he saw the skeletons.

Noah said helplessly, "We can't blame them. When people are on edge, they are bound to make some wrong decisions. Fortunately, there are more of us, and we can observe together, so it's less likely that we will make wrong judgments."

Ignoring the treasure chest filled with coins, the group continued onward, sensing they were approaching the area inhabited by the kobolds.

Loran discovered another uneven stone slab ahead, clearly another trap.

Adhering to the principle of caution, everyone chose to eliminate it to avoid future troubles.

A stone was thrown over, and the passage began to shake the next moment.

They were all startled to see a round stone sliding down from the ceiling in front of them, hurtling towards them at an accelerated speed.

"Not good!" Noah instantly drew his greatsword and stood in front of everyone to protect them. The stone was not small and was clearly meant to kill the adventurers.

Although its hardness is not comparable to that of a mountain boar's rock armor, it is virtually impossible to cut it in half. Therefore, the only option is to intercept it as much as possible. Noah was very unsure of himself, but he had to give it a try!

"Steel Slash!"

Noah's greatsword met the falling rock head-on. The hardness of the iron sword instantly collided with the falling rock, releasing a powerful impact that clashed with the gravitational potential energy of the falling rock!

Just as Noah was about to give up, Loran rushed in and activated his beast core, which was making its debut!

"Buzz!" A faint aura of rock light enveloped him, and the light shield instantly dissipated most of the pressure from the falling rocks.

Loran then used Steel Slash to retaliate against the falling rocks!

"boom!"

"Splash!"

With the help of Noah and Loran, the falling rock actually cracked and scattered into pieces of gravel.

Lin Wen and Finita both gasped in shock. They hadn't expected that the seemingly harmless traps were just a cover, and the real big one was waiting for them here.

In particular, they hadn't developed this kind of mental expectation. If it weren't for Noah and Loran's intervention, an ordinary adventurer team would probably have really suffered a setback here.

"Lorraine, thank you so much. Thanks to you, I'm afraid I wouldn't have been able to stop this rock on my own," Noah said with a sigh of relief and gratitude.

Loran's heart was pounding too. She smiled and said, "Don't mention it. We're teammates, but it was indeed quite dangerous. We need to be even more careful."

"Um!"

After passing through this passage, a stone chamber appeared ahead, followed by another secluded passage, but this one was much wider than the previous one.

So far, they have not encountered any kobolds in the cave.

"Where are these guys hiding?" Lin Wen couldn't help but complain.

Brian sniffed, his eyes fixed on the passage ahead, and slowly said, "Guys, I smell that awful odor. There are definitely a lot of kobolds in that passage ahead!"

Noah shouldered his greatsword and sneered, "Fine, if that's how it is, let's see if hiding in their shells is any good!"

The group stepped into the passage.

Loran took out an arrow, nocked it, and drew his bow.

"Ignite."

Flames burst forth from the arrowhead.

"call out!"

As the arrows flew, the firelight briefly illuminated the area they passed through, allowing everyone to observe their surroundings.

Compared to the previous passage filled with traps, this passage looks much simpler, and it seems that there aren't many traps set up.

"Aren't these kobolds setting traps anymore?" Lin Wen asked strangely.

Noah shook his head. "These guys definitely won't let such a good opportunity pass by. If they don't set traps, it means they want us to venture into the area ahead. That might be their goal. Let's keep going and see."

As the group slowly moved forward, they suddenly noticed something unusual: fist-sized holes had appeared on both sides of the passage.

These holes look like they were designed specifically for this purpose, and there appears to be a hollow structure behind them, which means that people could stand behind the holes, or... stand kobolds?

From time to time, rustling sounds could be heard in the darkness, like small claws scraping against stones, but when the firelight shone on them, nothing was found.

Brian frowned. "I have a feeling they're very close..."

Noah suddenly realized, "I knew it! I was wondering why they let us swagger in like that. These holes must have been prepared to ambush us..."

Finita looked around at the holes warily and asked curiously, "Then why haven't they made a move yet?"

"They're waiting for us to go deeper, to prevent us from escaping."
