Knight Com naturally permitted Loran's actions, since every minute they delayed the monster meant a greater chance of survival.

Loran and Finita arrived at the outer perimeter of the fortress and began setting traps, including fright boxes, animal traps, and small nails.

Of course, Loran's purpose was not just to set a trap; he needed to verify something.

When Loran and Finita arrived at the rear of the fortress, he carefully examined the inconspicuous hillock behind it.

He pretended to set a trap, but actually observed the condition of the surrounding soil. Based on Professor Lena's experience in setting and identifying traps, he concluded that there was a big problem with the land.

There are obvious signs of human concealment here, suggesting that some kind of mechanism or device may be hidden beneath this land...

Based on Brian's feedback, it detected the horse's scent.

"Heh, that old fox." Loran sneered inwardly, seemingly guessing who was behind this.

This must have been done by that seemingly benevolent Comm, a knight who possessed wealth that most people could not have.

He was more afraid of death than anyone else; if he died, his happy life would come to an end.

Would a guy who desperately wants to live think about others? He'd only think about himself, and probably at any cost.

"Finita, place a scare box here," Loran said.

Although Finita had some doubts, she did as she was told, perhaps because the position was rather unique.

"Can you cover this box with a mound of earth and set it to a state that can only be triggered by human intervention?" Loran asked curiously.

Finita thought for a moment and nodded. "Hmm, it should be possible. We just need to remove some of the magic tricks to achieve that effect."

"Okay, set it up like this." Loran smiled slightly.

After setting the trap, the two returned to the fortress. The people inside were already preparing, their hearts pounding, unsure of what kind of being they were about to face...

Time passed second by second, and the air seemed to freeze. Loran could even hear heavy breathing.

Soon, a tremendous commotion erupted from one side of the village, followed by the screams of the villagers.

"Bang bang bang!" The sound of catapults echoed in the night, and the village's defenses were activated.

But soon there was no further activity.

Unlike cities, villages don't have towering walls. Catapults were already quite expensive equipment, and the monsters quickly broke through the defenses and poured into the village!

"Roar!" A deafening roar erupted in the deathly silence of the night...

It was a sound that no one had ever heard before—sharp and terrifying.

Through the windows of the fortress, Loran saw that the densely packed monster figures appeared like a tide at the edge of the village; the monsters had chosen to attack!

Lin Wen stared in horror at everything, a strange sense of panic rising within her. Could they... really survive such a disaster?

Loran did not take advantage of the window to shoot the monsters. He had a limited number of arrows, which could only kill fifty or sixty monsters at most. He had to conserve his strength.

"Quickly, guard the entrance!" Knight Com shouted.

Monsters surged toward the village like a tidal wave, and the villagers naturally sensed the presence of this fortified stronghold, which the shaman had taught them.

They understood that many solid buildings have doors, and they would cleverly enter through these doors.

The group of monsters circled around and soon found the entrance to the fortress, but the entrance was not large, only allowing one or two monsters to pass through.

So they lined up and entered one by one.

Monsters squeezed into the entrance, and as soon as they squeezed halfway in, they felt a chill running through their bodies.

The cold blade pierced their bodies. They looked closely and realized that there was a row of gaps on the side of the passage, just big enough to insert a weapon.

"Roar!" The wounded monster roared, blood flowing from his body. Before he could retaliate, he was trampled to the ground by his companions behind him.

The monster was quickly trampled to death in the passage due to its injuries.

Inside the fortress, the people grabbed various weapons and started stabbing wildly at the monsters in the passage, trying their best to prevent them from entering.

However, as the number of monsters dying in the passage increased, the piles of corpses in the passage became a problem that could not be ignored.

The monsters continued to pour in, pushing the corpses of their companions forward, and so on, large numbers of corpses were pushed into the fortress.

The stench of blood emanating from the corpses immediately filled the entire fortress.

Moreover, among these corpses are some that are not quite dead; they will periodically "come back to life," get up from the ground, and prepare to deliver a heavy blow to the fortress.

Knight Com said calmly, "Let's hold on a little longer until the first floor is completely unusable. There's an iron door on the top floor of the fortress with a spiral staircase leading down!"

"Look out the window!" Com called out.

Finita hurried upstairs and peered through the crack in the window to report, "Most of the monsters have flooded into the village, but many are still roaming and guarding outside. They must have been deliberately left behind to defend it!"

"Cunning monster... We can't hold out much longer here, let's go upstairs one by one! Loran, you guys go upstairs first!" Com shouted.

Before Loran could object, Com immediately added, "You are adventurers, possessing the ability to break through. We must rush out immediately, otherwise, none of us will survive!"

Noah said in a deep voice, "Alright, we'll lead the way, but please, Sir Knight, follow closely behind us. If the opening we make isn't big enough, your personal guards will be needed to fill it in."

"Okay, no problem!"

After saying that, Noah led the team upstairs, followed closely by Loran and his group.

After they went upstairs, Com also led his guards upstairs, a barely perceptible smile appearing on his lips.

Soon, Noah saw the iron door on the top floor of the fortress and kicked it open. Obviously, these monsters had not discovered them hiding on the top floor; they had only chosen the more open entrance.

"Life or death, it all depends on now! Let's go!" Noah sneered, then led the charge out.
