Chapter 087: Dog Head Forest's Desperate Situation

Noah and his companions quickly descended the spiral staircase, only to be met with a dense horde of monsters below!

These monsters, possessing two distinct characteristics, could very well be called the Dog-Headed Forest.

"Die!" Noah swung his greatsword, instantly slaying the dog-headed forest surrounding the stairs. The combination of the two creatures was ultimately just flesh and blood.

Trying to withstand the damage from an iron greatsword is wishful thinking.

Loran knew it was time. He activated his Pierce skill, and the arrow flew out, piercing through one of the dog-headed trees while simultaneously piercing through the dog-headed trees behind him, killing two in a row.

"Ahhh!" came the screams of the dog-headed forest creatures from not far away. They scattered and fled, as if they had encountered something terrifying.

"It's a scare box! The trap has activated!" Lin Wen exclaimed joyfully. "Why don't we break through in that direction?"

"Understood!" Finita replied earnestly. She glanced back, a hint of doubt creeping into her mind, "Why...didn't Com keep up with us?"

Loran's heart skipped a beat. He turned around and, sure enough, there was no sign of Knight Com and his companions upstairs, even though they had clearly seen them following them as they went up...

"I knew these guys were up to no good! Let's ignore them and break through on our own!" Lin Wen cursed, then calmly said.

Noah calmly replied, "It's alright. We've achieved our goal. At least we didn't die in the first wave of attack, and that's enough. Now, let's forge our own path!"

Noah wielded his greatsword, killing several dog-headed forest monsters that charged at him, and led his team members toward the outskirts of the village.

Finita wasn't running that fast; she was at the back of the group. Looking back at the relentlessly pursuing Doghead Forest members, she felt a chill run down her spine.

These creatures are incredibly fast, their limbs gripping the ground like ferocious hunting dogs as they chase after them; they will catch up quickly.

Finita took out some flour from her pocket and silently recited a spell. Because of her nervousness, the magic trick failed. She tried again and succeeded!

The flour turned into yellow sand and flew backward. The dogs chasing it had their vision severely obstructed upon contact with the sand, lost their balance, and fell to the ground.

Finita chuckled and kicked up a few more clumps of sand, causing several more dog-headed forest creatures to fall to the ground.

Unexpectedly, such a simple trick proved to be so effective in this situation.

As Noah cleared the way ahead, he noticed several figures appearing on their left; it turned out to be Com.

At this moment, most of the monsters around were drawn to Loran and his group, and Com and his group wanted to take this opportunity to escape.

"That's... a horse? Where did they get a horse?!" Lin Wen exclaimed in astonishment, having no idea where Com had gotten a horse.

Loran chuckled, realizing the reason. It must be that Com had set up a secret passage in the fortress, with horses hidden inside. All that was needed was to trigger a mechanism to open the passage to the outside world.

Let them draw the fire so that he and his guards can escape on horseback—there's no such thing as a free lunch!

Loran watched the group about to gallop away on horseback, then nocked an arrow and shot it into the sky.

The arrow wasn't aimed at their horses, but at the box that Finita had buried earlier.

Loran had long suspected that Com might do something like this, so he cunningly had Finita plant a slightly dangerous landmine there.

And now, they just happen to be passing by that box. All they need to do is give it a little stimulation to open it!

After reaching a certain height, the arrow in the sky lost its kinetic energy and began to fall rapidly. The place where it fell was none other than the location of the startled box!

That's the insane power of precision shooting; even when fired into the sky, it can land precisely where Loran wants it!

Com and his companions had already started to urge their horses to gallop, but just a few steps later, an arrow struck the fright box, triggering it!

An invisible fear instantly swept over Com and his guards. They were momentarily stunned, but quickly regained their senses.

Knight Com and his bodyguards, being men of some strength, were naturally not greatly affected, but their horses were a different story!

The horse was frightened and began to run away uncontrollably. Com tried to calm the horse down, but couldn't do so in a short time.

The monsters that were originally watching the Loran squad were drawn to the commotion here, and they shifted some of their forces to Com's side.

"Damn it! What have you done?!" Com roared, watching the monster charging towards them. He had no choice but to fight. "Soldiers! Fight your way through!"

"Whoosh whoosh whoosh!" Loran fired rapidly, killing the dog-headed forest that was about to pounce on him.

Lin Wen slashed with his dagger, using extreme dodges and counterattacks to eliminate the approaching dog-headed forest. Each time, he narrowly avoided the dog-headed forest's attacks, then seized the openings in their attacks to launch a counterattack.

The reason she dared to act so boldly was because of her Shadow Ambush ability. If she made a mistake, she would immediately disappear into the shadows to protect herself. If she succeeded, it would be a perfect gain!

Low returns, high profits – such attacks are very effective.

Finita drew her spear for self-defense, but her fighting skills were now somewhat lacking, and she was no match for the dog-headed forest.

The Doghead Forest tribesmen also had weapons, mostly wooden spears. Since the spears no longer had the advantage of range, they had to compete in skill.

This also means that while she is stabbing Doghead Forest, Doghead Forest will also stab her with a wooden spear.

She was nearly stabbed by Doghead Lin several times, but Lorraine and Brian were there to help her from time to time, which kept her safe for the time being.

Their progress slowed considerably, but the number of dog-headed monsters appearing around them continued to increase...

There may be more than a hundred dog-headed forests nearby. This may not be much for a fairly large village, but for an individual member of the dog-dagger squad, it is a rather terrifying number.

This means that each of them has to deal with dozens of dog-headed forest monsters!

Noah's greatsword can effectively deal area damage, but its drawbacks are also very obvious: it has a long recovery time and consumes a lot of stamina.

Loran was able to take down Doghead Forest from a distance, but his arrows were dwindling rapidly, and he was almost out of ammunition.

Lin Wen, needless to say, was bound to make mistakes while navigating the world of swords and blades, and needed to frequently use Shadow Ambush to compensate for the margin of error, which severely depleted his energy.

Finita's direct combat skills are too weak; she's too busy protecting herself...

The only one that seemed decent was Brian, who had a low profile. He roamed the Doghead Forest unfazed by their spears, nimbly dodging and waiting for his chance to strike.

It always intervenes in time when its teammates make mistakes and are about to be harmed by monsters, saving them from the consequences of their mistakes. Its sharp teeth are also enough to tear the neck of Doghead Forest to shreds!
