Archer's Adventure Manual

Chapter 099: Jasper the Butler

"Elfin...he's back alive, but what about Inada Village?"

At this moment, Loran's heart was in turmoil. As someone with whom he had some kind of connection, this guy had made such an explosive move... He had no choice but to pay attention to him.

Brian tilted his head in thought, "That huge kobold was just as annoying as the kobolds we encountered in battle."

Loran patted Brian's head, watching the Elfin disappear into the distance. "Brian, we need to become even stronger!"

Loran had long been accustomed to the feeling of being in the mountains but not seeing the mountains, and he was no longer used to actively dispelling the fog in the mountains.

The mountain has always been there. Even if the fog is dispelled, it won't change anything. The only thing he can change is himself.

As long as he becomes strong enough, no matter how the mountain changes or how shrouded in mist, he will have enough resources to protect himself.

"Let's go, Brian, let's go back and recharge," Loran said casually, no longer paying attention to Elfin.

His presence at least means that the town of Hama should be safe from major danger for the time being.

......

"You said an adventurer came to town? And he even kidnapped a giant kobold?! This... how is this possible! Those monsters..." The castle steward was greatly shocked upon hearing this news.

The maid stood obediently in front of him and said earnestly, "It's absolutely true, sir. I saw him bring a giant kobold to our town, and the cage is now kept at the Adventurers' Guild!"

"The Adventurers' Guild... I'll pay them a visit!"

On the third floor of the Adventurers' Guild, the butler walked up and knocked on the door three times in a rhythmic manner.

A moment later, a woman opened the door; it was Vivienne.

Vicky sized up the butler and said with a smile, "Butler Jasper, what brings you to our Adventurers' Guild?"

"I have something to discuss with you." The butler entered and casually closed the door. "Is there anyone else here besides you?"

Vicky shook her head slightly and teased, "There are always people downstairs at the Adventurers' Guild. Isn't your question a bit childish?"

"Fine, I'll just say it straight: I want to see that kobold in the cage. Where is he?"

Vicky looked the butler up and down, then asked curiously, "Mr. Jasper, sometimes I really can't figure you out. The adventurers are already quite dissatisfied, what other trouble are you planning to cause..."

"Enough nonsense, I want to see that monster." Butler Jasper pulled out a few gold coins from his pocket.

Vicky pocketed the glittering gold coins and chuckled, "You're so generous. The monster is actually kept in the control room on the third floor. Come with me."

Vicky led Jasper through the corridor, then deactivated the magic circle, opening the secret chamber where a cage stood silently.

The terrifyingly large monster in the cage lay there, its eyes half-closed, quietly watching the open door to the secret chamber.

"Villie, let me stay here by myself for a while," Jasper said calmly.

Vicky glanced at Jasper and chuckled, "Well, that's interesting..."

He then turned and left.

Jasper looked at the monster before him and calmly asked, "You... lost?"

The monster in the cage was none other than Carlos, the giant dog-headed man from the battle of Inada Village that night.

At this moment, the battered Carlos looked at Jasper and sneered in a contemptuous voice, "We... lost? No, we are merely vassals of the Lord. Even if I fall, more monsters will appear... That elven ranger is indeed strong, but he will pay the price sooner or later."

Jasper looked at Carlos and said in a deep voice, "Do you want to leave?"

"The Lord will keep His promise."

"Okay... how long will it take? I can't wait."

"You're coming with me tonight," Carlos said calmly. "You did... well."

Jasper's eyes sharpened. "Alright!"

Jasper emerged from the secret chamber. Vivienne leaned against the wall, glancing sideways at him. "So, how did your communication with your lizardman go?"

"Villie, please do me a favor."

"Oh? What is it?"

"Let this guy go."

Vicky glared at her. "Old man, are you crazy? Haven't you made a huge mess enough?"

"This is the last time," Jasper murmured, tilting his head back. "What do you want?"

Violet narrowed her eyes. "Heh, interesting. What I want is simple: gold coins!"

The night was dark and the wind was high; a thunderstorm quietly began to fall.

Survival Guide: Heavy Rain Approaching...

A horse-drawn carriage slowly made its way through the rain and arrived at the banks of the Zeya Luo River.

"What are you doing on the riverbank in this heavy rain?" The guards on the riverbank spotted the carriage immediately.

The coachman in charge of the transport produced a secret order: "This is the lord's will; this shipment needs to be transported to a certain place via the river."

The guard took the secret order with suspicion, checked it, and found that the information was indeed correct. He then asked, "But, it's pouring rain right now. Isn't transporting it by river a bit too risky?"

A man stepped off the vehicle, holding a staff in his hand. The staff emitted a faint light, and flowing water swirled around it.

"A...a mage!" The guard exclaimed in astonishment. This was a mage who could use water magic, which explained everything. The value of this shipment was likely extraordinary.

Ultimately, the guards decided to let the carriage pass and allow it to approach the banks of the Zeya Luo River.

The guard breathed a sigh of relief. He earned a meager salary every day, yet he did extremely hard work and often encountered situations like today.

If handled improperly, it could offend not only people but also the lord, which carries a very high risk.

So he just needs to do his job well and never try to do anything shady.

The large amount of goods on the carriage was transferred to a boat, which, escorted by a mage who controlled water magic, slowly drifted away from Clam Town and flowed into the distance.

...

Jasper, as the castle's steward, wielded considerable power, and he embezzled a large sum of gold coins, handing them over to Willie.

Violet opened the money bag full of gold coins, revealing a bright smile. "Not bad... Old friend, until we meet again!"

After receiving the money, Vivi disappeared into the stormy night, and perhaps no one will ever know where she went...

Jasper sighed, turned and walked into a dark alley, then activated a hidden door mechanism, revealing a passage.

He slowly walked in and arrived at a room filled with a putrid smell, with strange green substances scattered in various corners.

The most eye-catching thing is the medicine-refining cauldron in the center, which contains an unknown liquid, and occasionally a dark green bubble rises from the liquid.

Jasper walked further and came to another small room, in which there was only one bed, a transparent bed.

The space beneath the bed was filled with that strange liquid, which kept evaporating upwards, while a strange gas drifted up as well.

A child lay in the center of the bed, and a strange gas entered the child's body.

The child was not very old, but his skin looked very old, and his face was deathly pale, like a candle flickering in the wind, symbolizing that the candlelight of life seemed to be extinguished at any moment.

"Son, I'm here to save you."
