Archer's Adventure Manual

Chapter 105: Disruptive Technologies

"My squad and I broke through. By the end, I had run out of arrows. Fortunately, I still had a group of reliable teammates. One of them broke through at the last minute. She had mastered the secrets of magic and cast a flash spell, which relieved some of the pressure on us."

"But that's not enough for us to break through. The goblin shaman's spells, which he casually casts, are already far more powerful than those of my teammates... We can't even break through that guy's shield."

Thompson listened attentively and pressed on, "So... what happened next?"

"Now comes the question you're most concerned about. Brian stepped up at the crucial moment. I don't know what strange change happened to him, but he emitted light and crashed into those monsters with magical shields, shattering all their shields."

"After doing all that, Brian went to sleep on the floor. He must have exhausted some of his energy. In fact, Brian often needs to sleep to recover his energy... For example, when he encounters a big crisis, he can always recover completely after a good night's sleep."

Thompson's pupils contracted slightly upon hearing this, and he nodded thoughtfully. "I think I might understand some things now. Yes, I understand what happened to you. So let's go back to the question we started with. That kind of monster you mentioned... it does really exist... What else do you know about this kind of monster?"

Loran thought for a moment and said seriously, "This kind of monster is a combination of two kinds of monsters, and its strength is indeed much stronger than that of ordinary goblins or kobolds, but their weaknesses still exist. They are afraid of light and afraid of fire... These are their problems."

"Their combined existence does not seem to have eliminated all these weaknesses."

While listening, Thompson took out a piece of paper and scribbled on it, drawing a very abstract image of a dog-headed forest with his rather clumsy drawing skills.

After finishing the drawing, he stroked his chin, deep in thought.

"Such a unique creature exists! It's certain that these creatures didn't appear naturally, but rather... were created by humans. Someone combined two species in an attempt to create a more powerful individual!"

"My God, this idea is absolutely outrageous... and what's even more terrifying is that this person actually did it. To my knowledge, no alchemist in the kingdom has ever done such a thing, not even those evil alchemists."

"This is almost revolutionary. If someone can actually do it, then regardless of whether they are evil or good, people will want to find them and use their technology to create enormous value!"

"So if there's a precedent for this, the news can't be buried... And since it's happened now, it naturally means it's a brand new technology and discovery. It's just that the person who discovered it might be colluding with monsters, or perhaps, not even human at all..."

Thompson made no attempt to hide his concern, because he, as a scholar, was well aware of the gravity of the matter.

To be able to create another life form by combining the characteristics of two completely different creatures... that's really hard to imagine, and it would require so much improvement in alchemy knowledge to make it possible.

And according to Loran's description, the number of monsters created in this way was not small! In fact, it could be described as an extremely large number...

This shows that this technology can still be widely used. If such technology were to fall into human society, what kind of uproar would it cause?

Thompson was deeply shocked. After a long silence, he said to Loran, "Kid, I'm certain now that this monster is a man-made creation... and this technology is quite terrifying. Combining the characteristics of goblins and kobolds is just one of the capabilities of this technology."

"I can only say that we should be thankful that this technology is currently only being used on monsters. If this technology were used in our human civilization, many people would be eager to acquire it, and the situation might be even more severe than it is now..."

Loran was taken aback, not expecting Thompson to say such a thing. He then asked, "Thompman, the person who can master this technology, or rather, not necessarily human, must be an intelligent being."

"So what should we do now? Is the situation dangerous for us?"

Thompson thought for a moment, then said gravely, "Yes, we are in a very dangerous situation right now. Inada Village is a very clear signal. In fact, whoever controls this technology is in a very dangerous position..."

"Just imagine, how terrifying would it be if that person could combine the features of a goblin and a dragon using this technology... Even with less than a thousandth of the dragon's strength, that would be enough to kill us!"

Loran imagined the scene based on Thompson's words, and it was indeed a terrifying scenario. If that time really came, humanity would probably face enormous danger!

Thompson said in a deep voice, "Kid, can you guarantee that everything you said today is true and reliable? That you saw it all with your own eyes?"

"Yes, I saw it with my own eyes. I fought my way out of those monster hordes. I saw at least a hundred of those monsters with both types of monster characteristics, that's a minimum estimate," Loran said seriously. "So, Thompson, do you have a way to deal with these monsters?"

Thompson gave a wry smile and looked helplessly at Loran. "Kid, I'm not trying to discourage you, but you're asking about this... Do you really want to go out and fight those monsters? Adventurers would probably have a hard time defeating something like that. I think you should save your breath and not risk your life."

Loran paused for a moment, then said, "Now that everyone is gradually becoming aware of this situation, I believe that not only the adventurers in our town, but also other adventurers will participate in the Adventurers' Guild's cleanup operation. With such a large number of people, I think it should be achievable."

"That also has a prerequisite: there need to be enough adventurers, like the ones from Elfin. In short, I don't think anyone who can master this kind of technology could be easily wiped out by the Adventurers' Guild and the adventurers themselves..."

And this might just be the tip of the iceberg of what the person behind it all has. No one can say for sure what other skills they might possess. If you're thinking of taking the risk of getting a piece of the pie at this point, I advise you to be careful!
