Archer's Adventure Manual

Chapter 111: Chuck's Death

"So, if we want to get a share of these missions, we can start with the intelligence we already know. If we assume that the recent killers are from this group, wouldn't we be better able to find evidence than others?" Loran suggested.

Finita said with some concern, "But we're not professionals. We might be decent in combat, but when it comes to investigative work, we... we haven't done anything yet?"

"That is indeed a problem, but given the current situation, the risk of us going out is actually very high. Since Loran has already obtained some information, and the location is in Rockfall Town, which we are familiar with, I think... perhaps we can give it a try."

"Perhaps we do have a bit of a talent for investigative tasks? Who knows?" Lin Wen said with a smile.

After discussion, everyone decided that the task was feasible, since it was located in Rockfall Town and was related to the recent monster cluster incident. If they could obtain solid evidence, the reward would be substantial.

Overall, this task is quite impressive.

So they took on the task of investigating the cause of death.

The final step of this mission is naturally an additional quest issued by the Adventurers' Guild—to search for clues related to the monster cluster, with rewards given according to the importance of the information.

The compensation is quite substantial.

"This is our first time trying an investigative mission, and I don't think we need any extra preparation. The most important thing is the action itself. Let's go to Chuck's parents' house first and find out what happened back then!" Lin Wen suggested.

No one objected. After all, it wasn't an outing, and there was no need to prepare too much. Since it was in town, they decided to go and find out what was going on first.

Loran and his group arrived at the home of Chuck's parents, the people who had given out the mission, in no time.

However, there was no response when I knocked on the door.

So Linwen asked around among the neighbors and found out that Chuck's father was a carpenter who worked in a lumber mill, and his mother was a farmer.

It's surprising that these two people from ordinary backgrounds would be willing to offer 200 silver coins as a reward for their mission; it's clear they really wanted to get justice for their child.

"I heard Chuck is dead? How long ago did this news come out?" Lin Wen asked a neighbor.

The neighbor nodded, cautiously glancing around before saying seriously, "Yes, but everyone's just guessing. It seems Chuck offended some kind of evil spirit! Because he blasphemed an evil god, he's suffering divine punishment!"

"Oh? Why do you say that?" Lin Wen asked, her eyes wide with curiosity.

The neighbor explained, "Chuck's death was extremely gruesome. His body seemed to have been gnawed on by some kind of creature... He was mutilated. I really regretted it after just one glance. I simply couldn't bear to look."

"Has it been eaten by a creature? Could it be that wild animals have entered Falling Rock Town?" Lin Wen continued to ask.

"No, how could that be? I've lived here for so long, and I've never seen any wild beasts. Even the town's stray dogs couldn't do that! I think it must be some kind of evil god's curse that turned him like that!"

The neighbor glanced at Lin Wen, then at the people beside him, and said anxiously, "You wouldn't happen to be adventurers here to solve this problem, would you? I advise you not to get involved. The town's guards all hold that evil god in awe, and anyone who gets tainted by it will not have a good end."

"Alright, you guys have some self-respect, I'm leaving now!" The neighbor shrank back and quickly moved away from the area.

Loran and the others looked at each other in bewilderment.

Loran said with some surprise, "I didn't expect that such a death case would be regarded as an event like an evil god by the townspeople. The impact of this is quite significant."

"Hmm...it's really hard to explain what happened to Chuck. If something is so bizarre that it's hard to understand, then the villagers can only explain it by supernatural explanations," Noah sighed.

Loran said gravely, "Yes, if we hadn't seen it with our own eyes, who would believe it? I think what was eating Chuck's body wasn't some wild beast, but rather those guys with monstrous features who infiltrated the town... I really don't understand what those guys are trying to do..."

Time passed slowly, and after a long wait, Loran and the others finally met Chuck's parents.

Chuck's parents were overjoyed when they saw the mission assignment.

"Finally, an adventurer has accepted the quest! We are so grateful to you, brave adventurers! My son died mysteriously not long ago. You must help us find out who killed him and bring justice to our son!"

Finita quickly said, "Uncle and Aunt, please don't get agitated. We need some information right now. All you have to do is tell us what you know."

"Okay, okay, no problem!"

"Chuck is a good kid. He works hard every day. His original job was as a delivery driver, responsible for allocating goods in the town. Although it was hard work, he was able to earn a good income."

"However, such days were interrupted one day. News of the incident in Inada Village spread throughout Rockfall Town, and everyone was filled with fear, worried that monsters would one day come to us. At this time, the lord issued a decree, which was to allocate some civilians to plant some special crops in the fields. It is said that these crops will be an effective means of dealing with monsters after they grow."

"Because the lord gave him a lot of money, Chuck answered the lord's call and went to the fields to plant that special crop, but... that field was quite far from our way home, located on the edge of Rockfall Town..."

"And our son Chuck was killed on his way back to Rockfall from the fields, thrown into a well, and there were obvious signs of cannibalism on his body... I think that person must have killed Chuck and then let wild dogs devour his body to defile his soul..."

At this point, Chuck's mother burst into tears. Chuck was just an ordinary child, but he was her only concern. Now that her concern was gone, her mother lost all hope for her bleak life.

"Adventurers, please help us find the culprit! We've worked hard for many years and saved up some money. We hope to use this to avenge our child! We need the murderer to pay the price!"

After hearing what Chuck's parents had described, the members of the Dogecoin Squad looked at each other, nodded to each other, and agreed that they would do their job well!
